I'll admit I've never heard of the battle of Galford, Hingston very much so. In my native village on the Rame peninsula there is a field just off the creek colloquially known as 'Viking Camp' They really did help the Celts resist the push of the Saxons for a time. Danescombe springs to mind too. There is a local historian that I know who used to lecture in Plymouth Uni, he was only talking about Geriant and his significance in this neck of the woods of recent times. The old maps always had this region down as 'West Walia' sometimes it was known as South Wales and proper Wales 'North Wales' These border areas have very interesting histories, pity they are somewhat ignored.
