    I have my 2015 cooper s just about to break 40k miles. It doesn’t get a lot of constant use, but I drive her hard and it’s a blast in the canyons. I still can’t imagine letting my mini go, will hold onto it for as long as the engine turns over. Also helps that cops never bother me while driving!

    i've completely fallen in love with my '15 F56 S, a car i thought i would own for 1 year before selling it and moving on. it's been solid, only thing it's needed is regular maintenance. it's a ton of fun to drive and agree that the interior is a nice step up from other small cars.

      Have you had the blue smoke when cold start yet ? I did. BMW supplied one owner car, 66 plate, FSH. Only when cold, never does it when driving or when warmed up. Had to have the head off and parts replaced, under warranty thank goodness. Ive read of other owners with same problem.

      I owned a 2016 MINI countryman
      It is very reliable only issue I had was the overpriced maintenance.
      For what BMW pitches as an economy brand luxury car, they shouldn’t charge 900$ for front brakes 😂

    I have a 2015 F56 S and It's a lot of fun to drive. I wouldn't say it's a realiable as the Japanese one that I had but it's not bad. I'm pretty much daily it and runs it pretty hard. Over 100000km, Replaced the lower arms. Some bushing. shocks. One thing that is unexpected is that the drive shalf was leaking oil. But it got really annoying now that each of the coolant hoses started to leak. Been replacing it one after another. There's another small leak now. Not expensive to replace but it's hard to find the leak. I think I've almost got it all replaced by now. Sending it to the mechanic in this few days so check and also replace either the back rotor or caliper. Been making weird sound for a week. The leaking makes me thinking about replacing it but can't find one that is equally fun and stylish for the price range.

    My daily commuter. 47 miles each way mix of fast freeway, some curves on the freeway and a little stop and god and stoplight traffic and it’s phenomenal! Awesome on twisty mountain roads on the weekends and one of the most comfortable cars I’ve owned or driven on road trips, which surprised me. 900 miles in one day and your not work out and legs and back feel fine. Set the cruise at 80 -90mph out west and its super stable, crosswinds aren’t an issue and your just relax and enjoy some good tunes. I’m not sure this car could be any better. I even have the base engine and the turbo at altitude gives it plenty of power in traffic when needed and gets 40-42mpg even with stop and go traffic and 75-80mph freeway cruising. High altitude helps a lot. Might be the perfect Denver commuter and weekend fun toy rolled together. Takes the best of every car I’ve ever owned and mixes it together.

    I have a 2011 R56 MCS. Absolutely a blast to drive but the reliability has been awful. I dread hearing the "bloop" sound that signals a maintenance alert.
    I was looking forward to getting a Veloster N once the Mini's days were over but the Veloster was discontinued so I guess I'll consider the MCS again and try to negotiate to throw in an extended warranty. And hopefully that all happens before America's preferences completely bury the manual transmission.

    Lots of comments in here about reliability, the older gens were problematic (especially the 07-10 turbo models). But this current generation has proven itself to break that mold.

The mini second generation I had was definitely the most fun car I’ve ever owned. The newer ones are several hundred pounds heavier so they lack they go kart high torque feel. I’ve never driven a Porsche but people tell me they have that go kart feel also. I think everything is expensive these days unfortunately

      Nobody else offers a 2 door hot hatch at the moment.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 2 роки тому

      @@PortersGarage The only Mini that is a "hot hatch" is the Cooper Works trim, which is $40k before add-ons. There are a lot of other sporty cars out there that offer more room, more luxury, or more performance for that kind of money that aren't hatchbacks, which alone doesn't justify the price.

    • @PortersGarage
      @PortersGarage 2 роки тому

      @@palebeachbum agree to disagree, The S is a tuned up version of the base car, depending on your definition it qualifies. But even if it doesn’t, I have never liked the 4 door hatchbacks. I owned plenty of GTIs until VW killed the 2 door after 2016. I’ve had other cars, last one was a 2021 Mustang GT, it was fun but not nearly as nimble.
      What other cars would you suggest?
      Keep in mind I don’t do 4 doors. I’d love to get my hands on a GR86 but I’m sure it will be another 2 years.
      BTW I have a 2023 MCS, the interior quality is high, stereo is really good, driving dynamics are certainly there, and its a 2 door fun nimble car with 3 pedals.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 2 роки тому

      @@PortersGarage The closest thing I can think of is a Hyundai Veloster N. Way cheaper than a Cooper Works and gives you 275hp to the Cooper Works 228hp. Has adaptive suspension and all kinds of neat gizmos. It's a blast. Aside from that, everything else is either going to be a 4-door hatch or a 2-door coupe. BMW 2-series, Subaru BRZ, Miata, if you want to stay small. Then muscles cars like Mustang, Camaro, Challenger. Aside from a very small niche, Americans just don't buy 2-door hatches anymore. Mini is an anomaly. I'm honestly surprised they're still a brand in the USA.

    • @PortersGarage
      @PortersGarage 2 роки тому

      @@palebeachbum exactly why I got one, if you’re one of those rare Americans who want a 2 door hatch this is it. I never thought I was OCD until I saw one of those 3 door Velosters in person.

      I'm assuming you're referring to the 2 series GC, after all, it is based on the Countryman. The BMW's are going to be around 45k with a good amount of options, a well specced JCW hardtop will run you about 40k. Unless you realllllly want the BMW badge or need 4 doors, I'd get a Mini. Mini's are essentially cheap BMW's at this point and drive a lot better than their BMW counterparts.
      You are better off comparing a used 330i with a new Cooper S.
