they deserve more credit than they're given, most people don't like them because they do take a little bit of work to get perfect and expect everything to come perfect. and you can't beat the price of these, a bass of this build/material would cost you thousands and possibly into the 10,000's depending on the company(Alembic, Fodera)
Hey, I just picked up a wish bass. I like that each one is different. custom made. I think I may shave down the neck just a little. I may refinish the body, but I'm not sure yet. All I can say is that for the price if thesr custom bass's go for it. They sound great !
He's a great guy, almost ordered a custom but this one came up right before I did and I fell in love with it's looks and then the sound! I bought from him btw
nah I pulled it off, I decided to try to upgrade it, I added an adjustable bridge so that it will be properly intonated, and sanded down the nut a lot more to get the action lower, next I'm hoping to shave down the neck quite a bit to make it less chunky.
Trust me, these basses are much more than just a cheap little toy. Sure, it's not a massively high end bass, but I've played basses far more expensive that were nowhere as nice as the one of these I played. Sure, they look rough and crappy, but they're solid as hell, and so comfortable and nice. Plus, they're cheap as hell. If you don't like it, you're not out a massive amount of money. Try it before you knock it.
Glen Kersul you didn't at all, once I had more experience I fixed it hahaha. I eventually put a normal bridge on it and it made 100x better. I hate I sold this one! It's certainly a stunning instrument
Well, I hope your view on Mexican Jazz basses has changed in the last 5+ years. Because those destroy this thing as do the Squier vintage modified. However, despite this things sound and finish quality, I still want one. Ha.
I have one of these, too, a JB model. I gig with it all the time. I paid the extra $100 for better woods and the Kent Armstrong pickup- worth it. It's got some limitations, though. For one thing, it's useless over the 12th fret- even with a ton of compression, just no sustain up there at all. This would be greatly improved with the installation of a Badass bridge... (my next investment) Not a fan of Corian- will likely do something else with the nut eventually as well. I'm not sure about their claims of "best sounding bass ever"... I've played a lot of fretlesses that sounded a lot better, some of them in this price range, but it is funky lookin, and it sounds good for what it is. Definitely good for the "what the fuck kinda bass is that??" factor. His non-reinforced necks are about as big around as a bat- not for the feint of heart! Hasn't EVER reacted to cold or heat, though- very stable. Oh, and can't cheap out on the strings, either- that's important. I have found that Thomastik flat wounds definitely work out better on this beast than the bargain brands (for one thing, you can get them in long scale- which these usually need).Gotta use the flat wounds on these- rounds will chew up the fingerboard. I pull those in for around $60 a set, sometimes a lil less...
check my other videos, I've owned Alembics, played F basses, Fodera's, Roscoes, all the "big" names in basses and can compare this one to those because I've done the work to make it into an incredible instrument. as far build and materials, if you ordered a custom Alembic with the same neck recipe as this and even a different body wood you'd be paying upwards of $9,000 at best, sure Alembics and Foderas are good basses but for that money just build one yourself which is what I've started doing
I ordered one of these and it came in today. And it was totally destroyed, the headstock was in half, the bridge broke off of it, some strings were even missing. I paid 450$ for it, and it definitely wasn't worth it
strange, I don't remember getting that offer haha. but yea it is a shame that you have to do a lot of work to them but obviously the price reflects that. I actually bought this from the guy who makes them off eBay. I don't know if he keeps any around his shop but just search every now and then on ebay for them and he often puts 2 up at a time that he randomly made
Taylor they are nice basses for the money but if you are saying a bass with no truss rod a plastic nut and bridge is in the same league as a Sadowsky or Alembic young man you have not been around many basses and those basses are more than just pretty wood and there is a reason why they cost as much as they do if one of these played and sounded like a Fodera trust me they couldn't make them fast enough.
Cool deal man. I made you an offer on craigslist. Hope i didnt insult you. Haha. Im glade your gonna stick with it. There such beautiful basses. Its a shame you gotta do so much work to get them right. But i guess for the price and gratification of finishing it yourself. It's probably worth it. On more thing man. Did you order yours custom. Or does he usually keep a few around the shop for sale.
We will have to agree to disagree I've been playing since the early 70's and my first super nice bass was an early Alembic when people thought they were weird I've had just about every year of Fender P and Jazz basses but my Sadowsky and my new Fodera are two of the nicest playing basses I have ever played. I agree with you I payed almost $10,000 for a bass and people think it's crazy but this thing will last forever and I've offered more than I payed for it. I like your idea of building your o
you're screwed? haha but really the likely hood of that happening is EXTREMELY slim, he's been making these for about 10 years and I've never seen where someone had one that the neck warped on, really the only way that could happen is if you moved from like New York to Florida where there's a huge change in temperature and humidity. but if that happened I would have no idea what to do, maybe try to warp it back with heat/steam? haha, praying that never happens though
I've been playing many years on many stages. honestly, before you call any bass crappy you should have saved your money and invest in some lessons. none the less, best wishes to you and maybe humble yourself rather than embarrass yourself. Oh, who tha hell is Yacko? Like I said, embarrassing.
Like I said I think they are nice basses and I actually tried one that was at a local used instrument shop it played fine my argument is that it is not a high end bass and when the young man says " A bass of this build/material would cost you thousands" is incorrect he compared it to an Alembic or Fodera neither of which I don't think the young man has played that's my point just say they are great basses and don't compare them to the best of the best .
Ok, so aesthetically the bass is very nice .. we can’t judge the tone .. waiting for another video in which voice and bass are recorded separately and properly
Mutant Baby adding a tone control would be no problem, just not necessary, the pickup isn't the best but as is stated, I paid $300 for the bass and surpassed any other instrument in that price range

hey i know this video is extremely old but if you still own this bass, was there any issue with the neck warping? i know they don't have truss rods.
Sounded like you where playing some Kagrra, the for a bit.

Listen to Primus. You can definitely slap a fretless.
ouncy Tommy the cat is the. song. To slap on a 6 string fretless.
He's a great guy, almost ordered a custom but this one came up right before I did and I fell in love with it's looks and then the sound! I bought from him btw
Very cool! I hope you're still jammin my friend!
nah I pulled it off, I decided to try to upgrade it, I added an adjustable bridge so that it will be properly intonated, and sanded down the nut a lot more to get the action lower, next I'm hoping to shave down the neck quite a bit to make it less chunky.
How do Yo strap it on?

Hey it's T-money! I actually got to hear your voice! And that bass is sweet!
Why is the bridge slanted in the OPPOSITE direction? Makes no sense.
Glen Kersul right? It was like that when I got it and I had only been playing for a year or so and didn't know anything about intonation haha
Im sorry if I sounded like a total D-Bag. Its an easy fix, just slant opposite way and not that much angle is needed. Love your bass too!
Glen Kersul you didn't at all, once I had more experience I fixed it hahaha. I eventually put a normal bridge on it and it made 100x better. I hate I sold this one! It's certainly a stunning instrument
Yeah, just messaged the guy himself, and he sounded pretty confident that neck tilting wouldn't happen :b
how to adjust the truss rod? ✌🏼
No truss rod on these
Cool deal man. Thanx
Well, I hope your view on Mexican Jazz basses has changed in the last 5+ years. Because those destroy this thing as do the Squier vintage modified. However, despite this things sound and finish quality, I still want one. Ha.
What do you do if the neck bends, when you do not have a truss rod?

Hello. Have you installed the Badass yet? If so, what is verdict?
Who the hell is Yacko!!

Ethan Sparks holy crap! That sucks! I've been fortunate enough that I live close enough that can pick them up

I seen your bass on ebay. Did you end up selling it.
We will have to agree to disagree I've been playing since the early 70's and my first super nice bass was an early Alembic when people thought they were weird I've had just about every year of Fender P and Jazz basses but my Sadowsky and my new Fodera are two of the nicest playing basses I have ever played. I bought one used and love the sound but the action is too damn hight
Yup, same issue with me. However, I have never heard an electric sound as close to an upright in my life. Great for straight ahead jazz
you're screwed? haha but really the likely hood of that happening is EXTREMELY slim, he's been making these for about 10 years and I've never seen where someone had one that the neck warped on, really the only way that could happen is if you moved from like New York to Florida where there's a huge change in temperature and humidity. but if that happened I would have no idea what to do, maybe try to warp it back with heat/steam? haha, praying that never happens though

That's not a high end bass son
text me, or call me man!!!
Yeah, bought one - had HIGH hopes..... God awful, crappy workmanship, used for firewood.
waste of money in my opinion (sorry for being straight but the sound is ... not very good IMO)
Ok, so aesthetically the bass is very nice .. we can’t judge the tone .. waiting for another video in which voice and bass are recorded separately and properly
No truss rod, the pickup sounds like mud, and there's not even a tone control. Great bass? LOL
Mutant Baby adding a tone control would be no problem, just not necessary, the pickup isn't the best but as is stated, I paid $300 for the bass and surpassed any other instrument in that price range
