I don't think it would've been "Somi and friends" to the degree that some people think. Ryujin gathered some fans through Mixnine (1st place), Yeji on a show called (I think) The Fan, Chaeryeong was on Sixteen, and I'm not sure if Lia had as much exposure as the others.

I think Somi is better off being a soloists, granted the black label kinda did her dirty with her debut song (but look successful it was). Personally, I don't think Somi would really fit Itzy the way Yuna does. I feel like Yuna's personally, her looks, etc. fits Itzy better then Somi's would. I'm not saying Itzy wouldn't be good with Somi in it, but I'm saying I think Yuna fits in with the group then Somi would.

I think Somi wouldn't have "outshinned" the other girls because they all shine and nowadays I fell like they are all famous too only because of themselves and because they're together. I think it would be different and interesting with Somi, but ITZY is perfect as they are now.
Somi left jyp due to differences in music direction and pursue solo career. She wasn't been removed by jyp. She's already a confirmed member because after she left, Itzy debut got delayed.
The best line up for ITZY would've been with 7 members with Natty and Somi cuz I feel like they fit the teen crush/dance heavy songs ITZY is doing rn and would've made ITZY vocals way better and versatile but the group is already great this way.

To be honest Somi doesn't have that girl crush aura on her. She exudes the bubbly around her in how he acts and have a "spoiled brat" and "my dad is rich vibe" in which is the role of Lia already and she fits to it more than somi. I'm actually a fan on Somi on Produce 101 but seing her debut all I can say is she is a "jack of all trades but master on none"
It's not about talent though. It's about the vibe. Yuna just has this vibe that fits Itzy perfectly. I feel like Somi just doesn't have that. Even before I heard that if Somi was in Itzy Yuna wouldn't be in the group. I was shocked that she was supposed to be in Itzy because I felt like it didn't suit her at all...but I understand that everyone will have a different opinion.

She left in good terms with the company though but let's admit that she was clearly disappointed or frustrated perhaps. Imagine being an "almost twice" and an "almost itzy" member. She has really good group dynamics. She is talkative, sociable and has overflowing energy. I think the decision to transfer in a YG sub-company gave her huge pressure since now she has been labeled from an "almost member of Twice and Itzy" to a "might be BP's 5th member" or "Blackpink's hoobae". I think she might prefer to be dealing such pressure with group members if only she belongs to one. You can compare her stage presence from her IOI debut to her solo debut. A lot of people commented she became less confident, maybe its just the concept that didn't fit her, or she might need more vocal training, and of course majority said, she is better in a group. Some even compared to Chungha, saying Chungha is doing better with her solo. Winning IOI was for me just a nightmare for her.

I personally think Yuna is better in Itzy than Somi. She just doesn’t fit Itzy’s girl crush, and Yuna is like the perfect fit of Itzy. But I do agree that she did a mistake by going to The Black Label. Plus I feel like the group will just become Somi and her friends, but I will still love 💖 and support her 🥰😍😘💖

Because Lia only had a viral singing video of her... but that’s it, nothing else and yuna only exposure was the BTS reel teaser but no one even recognised her. And stray kids survival show... but JYP gave her little exposure compared to Ryujin,Chae and yeji.
the thing with I.O.I was that their debut song wasn't as good as people expected, so they didn't have that many fans then, but then whatta man(?) was better and then very very very was super popular so that's when they really gained a lot of popularity... the problem is that it was basically their last comeback, after that they released like a farewell song but didn't present it on music shows or anything... what I'm trying to say is that at their peak, they were as famous as any other produce group, but they it didn't last long for all that I said before... (English isn't my first language but I hope it was clear anyway)

I guess Ryujin was originally intended to be the visual of Itzy. That makes a lot of sense, especially with how much Knetz loves her visuals. I think she's growing into the role of center though.

Honestly, with Somi's reality show coming out, we can see how well she fits with The Black Label. But, I would've loved to see her debut in a group and seeing how ITZY is a group with great chemistry she would fit in really well! Hmmm that's a tough one... Honestly I love Somi and thought her solo debut was alright it wasn't the best but I don't think it was horrible. Personally I think she's better in a group rather than solo.. For one her voice isn't very strong, it's good but better with other people behind her. Like with Chung ha she has a strong voice and is the definition of a successful solo artist. When Somi was in IOI my automatically went to her I was excited to see what she was going to bring. And with ITZY I'm like that with YEJI my eyes automatically go to her no matter what. I think somi would have fit itzys concept so well. I feel like she's one of those idols that can adapt to pretty much any concept. She does seem more confident when performing within a group tho. However she's still young and just had her debut she might just not be as experienced as a solo artist like how she is as a group member so I'm pretty sure her stage presence and overall performance will just improve in the future. Hi yes a late one but Somi has stated before she rather be solo due to the fact that she could spend more time with her family, while in a group she couldn’t because of a constant schedule for groups. If she stayed with JYP he will not let them go on shows alone but as a whole and they are always busy. She seems happier now that’s she’s a solo artist than in a group for the fact that she was always in groups and they would disband (IOI UNNIES GIRLS NEXT DOOR) For her she rather not go through that heartache again from those three groups.

Same goes for Loona, they are with 12 but still have great and synchronized choreography. But I do agree that sometimes it can be messy but that can happen with uneven groups too, it all depends on how they did their choreography in my opinion.
thing about itzy is i think that somi fits the concept, but i don't think the concept fits somi if that makes sense. i think she could've have done well and even thrived in itzy concept, but i don't think she would have necessarily enjoyed it as much as the concept she can explore in yg. also i just have this feeling that she wouldn't have chemistry with the members of itzy that exist right now. that's an overlooked aspect of groups, if you don't have that chemistry with your team it's gonna be really obvious.
I personally think Somi would fit in Itzy perfectly. She's got talent, young energy and swag, she would add to it. Of course the group would be a bit different then but that's the point. As much as I love Yuna I kind of wish she debuted later with another group. She's so young and it's a lot of pressure for that age + people sexualize her already and it makes me sick. I don't think Somi would've fit Itzy's concept tbh and I don't wanna imagine not having Yuna in the group, she's the main reason why I started stanning them. She's one of the most lovable idols I've seen debuting in a while, has an amazing stage presence and dancing skills and don't get me started about her visuals (and all that with only 15!) - idk exactly why but Somi doesn't seem as youthful as the others and kinda more mature so I think she would've been great in a different group but not in Itzy.

Somi honestly should have tried out for a Nickelodeon show right after sixteen. She has great personality and presence and its really hard not to like her. she could have easily been another Grande / Gomez. As for Itzy I don't think she would have been content. And from what i hear nobody pays like YG especial if your solo so even if shes mildly successful she will still be better off financially. She also appears to have more freedom then other YG artist since she just got her drivers license while older BP members still can't.

ngl, seeing the predebut photos of somi with itzy really made me wish they'd debuted as a 6 piece. people say that somi wouldn't have fit itzy's concept but tbh I personally find their title tracks to be quite similar, particularly with the 'flashiness' of the MVs, so I think she would've been fine with them. She left in good terms with the company though but let's admit that she was clearly disappointed or frustrated perhaps. Imagine being an "almost twice" and an "almost itzy" member. She has really good group dynamics. She is talkative, sociable and has overflowing energy. I think the decision to transfer in a YG sub-company gave her huge pressure since now she has been labeled from an "almost member of Twice and Itzy" to a "might be BP's 5th member" or "Blackpink's hoobae". I think she might prefer to be dealing such pressure with group members if only she belongs to one. You can compare her stage presence from her IOI debut to her solo debut. A lot of people commented she became less confident, maybe its just the concept that didn't fit her, or she might need more vocal training, and of course majority said, she is better in a group. Some even compared to Chungha, saying Chungha is doing better with her solo. Winning IOI was for me just a nightmare for her.

People who saying yuna fit more for itzy than somi definitely doesn't really know how ultimate and powerful the group would be if somi in it. They just see somi as that solo somi and they get used with yuna in itzy. Maybe some of them didn't even know about jyp trainees back then, they know them after Itzy famous. So they got the impact after, how can they sure who's fit more, they only feel the hype after itzy debut.
Yes we can't imagine itzy without yuna and yes yuna fit in itzy and she's talented, but if you're saying that she's better and fit moree than somi, it's sounds wrong because your opinion based on the current situation only. Tbh, at first it seems yuna doesn't belong in itzy, she's good but she's like someone who trying to catch up the vibe and adopt to itzy, indeed she are because she's supposed to debut in jyp future group, but good for her now she's already fit and represents Itzy much. No one said somi should in itzy instead of yuna, because itzy is perfect as they are now, but you can't denied the fact that somi is really fit with itzy and itzy definitely could be the IT group instantly. Well doesn't matter now because Itzy is climbing to that and will become big for sure, and somi also got freedom to choose her own music and produced song. Hopefully she'll success too because she have it all and talented.
Somi said that she's making more music with Teddy, and that most of them are complete. So my guess it's that she maybe make a comeback

Honestly, with Somi's reality show coming out, we can see how well she fits with The Black Label. But, I would've loved to see her debut in a group and seeing how ITZY is a group with great chemistry she would fit in really well! Hmmm that's a tough one... Honestly I love Somi and thought her solo debut was alright it wasn't the best but I don't think it was horrible.
Personally I think she's better in a group rather than solo.. For one her voice isn't very strong, it's good but better with other people behind her. Like with Chung ha she has a strong voice and is the definition of a successful solo artist.
When Somi was in IOI my automatically went to her I was excited to see what she was going to bring. And with ITZY I'm like that with YEJI my eyes automatically go to her no matter what. I feel like Somi would end up trying to fight Yeji for center lol So that being said I think Somi belongs in a group, i thibk she shines more so in a group. Should she have debuted with ITZY? Idk I don't think it would have hurt the group I think they'd be just as successful as they are now. Though it's hard to imagine anyone else in the group now lol

I think somi would have fit itzys concept so well. I feel like she's one of those idols that can adapt to pretty much any concept. She does seem more confident when performing within a group tho. However she's still young and just had her debut she might just not be as experienced as a solo artist like how she is as a group member so I'm pretty sure her stage presence and overall performance will just improve in the future. Somi has stated before she rather be solo due to the fact that she could spend more time with her family, while in a group she couldn’t because of a constant schedule for groups. If she stayed with JYP he will not let them go on shows alone but as a whole and they are always busy. She seems happier now that’s she’s a solo artist than in a group for the fact that she was always in groups and they would disband (IOI UNNIES GIRLS NEXT DOOR) For her she rather not go through that heartache again from those three groups.

I don't think it's our place to point out whether she made the right decision or not cause she a made a "decision" obviously she thought about it and about what's best for her. There are a lot of what ifs associated with somi people are like "what if she debuted in twice? " "What if ioi was still a group? " And now the itzy thing. Imagine how regretful she must feel when she hears people talking about stuff like this. Its was her decision. Support her rather than making her feel bad about her choices.

Sorry but I half disagree. look at Gfriend, their choreography is so neat and they are with 6 members. Same goes for Loona, they are with 12 but still have great and synchronized choreography. But I do agree that sometimes it can be messy but that can happen with uneven groups too, it all depends on how they did their choreography in my opinion.

thing about itzy is i think that somi fits the concept, but i don't think the concept fits somi if that makes sense. i think she could've have done well and even thrived in itzy concept, but i don't think she would have necessarily enjoyed it as much as the concept she can explore in yg. also i just have this feeling that she wouldn't have chemistry with the members of itzy that exist right now. that's an overlooked aspect of groups, if you don't have that chemistry with your team it's gonna be really obvious.

As much as I love Yuna I kind of wish she debuted later with another group. She's so young and it's a lot of pressure for that age + people sexualize her already and it makes me sick. The rest of the girls are young too, I know, but not as much.
I just think that IOI should have been a permanent group. Somi's young and her outgoing and sociable attitude means that she would have been better in a group but Itzy wouldn't have been the same without Yuna, she fits the concept so well.

She's one of the most lovable idols I've seen debuting in a while, has an amazing stage presence and dancing skills and don't get me started about her visuals (and all that with only 15!) - idk exactly why but Somi doesn't seem as youthful as the others and kinda more mature so I think she would've been great in a different group but not in Itzy.

chaeryeong yeji and ryujin were popular pre debut but the hype around somi was just insane. she was an it girl in her prime (during and months after ioi). i do agree they all wouldve shined bc they have an insane amount of stage presence, esp yeji ryujin and yuna, but somi's popularity and not necessarily her stage presence (i do think she'd be one of the weaker performers in itzy but dont come for me pls) would hinder the personal success of the other girls :///
Somi honestly should have tried out for a Nickelodeon show right after sixteen. She has great personality and presence and its really hard not to like her. she could have easily been another Grande / Gomez. As for Itzy I don't think she would have been content. And from what i hear nobody pays like YG especial if your solo so even if shes mildly successful she will still be better off financially. She also appears to have more freedom then other YG artist since she just got her drivers license while older BP members still can't.
