I can teach you guys a strategy to outsmart that hateful wall-hugers. It works almost every time for me. Here it goes: 1. Buy the Facepalm taunt and equip it. 2. Jump into 1v1 ranked. 3. When someone starts jumping on a wall, hiding from your superior playstyle, taunt the f**k out of them. 4. Laugh as your oponent returns obediently to the ground. I'm not even joking, it works. The bad thing is that taunts cost money, but hey, we have this awesome game for free, giving BMG some money won't kill you.
that's funny to me is that berthen pretends his method works well for dealing with this playstyle but then he barely won that game despite playing against a much lower rated player.
why do you think he was much lower rated? and as I said I was focusing on getting clips for the video so I went in more than I should've. You guys can see it as i do show a decent amount of the match but by the way you worded things you probably don't care and would like to convince yourself it doesn't work which is fine, i respect everyone's opinion but just wanted to make clear why it was even close. Plus if you pay attention to the video it is obvious that the clips supports the method mentioned anyway.
pablo loquencio I know. It kills me. I'm a Val main and I hate these kinds of players. I'm silver, but it's mostly because I can't counter these FUCKING SPAMMERS, which make me tilt and play terribly. However when I'm calm, I play better than my high gold/ diamond friends
Before you comment about how you are skeptical about the effectiveness of this method. Let me remind you of what I said in the video. This was a zero effort game to win and a 100% game effort to get tons of clips for the method that I mentioned and it succeeded very well because I had both great clips and footage to show you. But I ended up actually WINNING. The reason I even showed that in the video was to reassure you that the method 100% works even if you do it constantly without using any other tactics or strategy. You might've noticed but I did not really try for gimps even when I could've. I didn't try weapon guarding. I didn't try waiting around for him to approach. I didn't try to WIN. It was a bonus that I got the win even though I used a method repeatedly without care for mix ups which should've been easily noticed by the enemy midway through the game which it was and it became harder because of it but I kept doing it to get good footage for this video and I still WON. And to drive the point home, no this guy wasn't a low rank player, he's actually diamond. TL:DR That's right I beat a diamond with this method by itself while trying to get good footage for this video. I got the footage and I WON so no it's not ineffective because I barely won. It's crazy that I actually won without trying hard to win.
Berthen - Dr. Phil, I'm just wondering, I use all these play methods, I'm an agressive player, but only counter more aggressive players with jumpy jump passive, it work's from time to time, but how do i fix this.

(Val) As it so happens I become passive against Asuri and do exactly what Berthen pointed out! Spot on in the read of intimidation as Asuri usually dominates spatial control in my games and I back dodge just trying to gain time/space in a futile atempt...... Ephi has a video about "Why you should be aggressive", its a really interesting one, and talks about pressure and being aggressive and having initiative without even attacking. Also i think Eggsoup talks about what he wants to change, one thing being fast falling increase speed (so theres more chance of getting ouf of stage to chase somebody instead of just waiting) and you not being able to fast dodge 180 grades backwards to retreat safely

These people are pure cancer of this game, luckily chain dodge helps to deal with them. I actually see a lot less passive players after chain dodge.

So you're basically making a whole video about basic Smash strategies, to bait out hits, right? You'd think people would figure that out without the need for a video, but we appreciate your effort.
Hi guys, Since I'm a passive player myself (yes, yes im the cancer you hate) I might as well explain why i play this way. I like to read people. Thats it. I just like to read people. I play in silver and people are so much fun to predict. Everyone in my rank has only one or two favourite sigs (almost exclusively S-Sigs) that they keep spamming, so early game you focus on predicting and punishing them. Most people adjust by copying my own tendencies (for example, when i predict a sig i stop it with a weapon throw, so they randomly throw weapons at me too), they play passive as well, or they get hyper agressive. So the second layer of fun for a passive player is reading and predicting your adjustments. Time and time again everytime you try to adjust out of frustration, we adjust for fun. But we need you to make that first move. This is the only difference between you and a passive player, you are picking a fight while we are trying to read you. If you want to counter, either outdamage how fast we can read you (because we need time to do so, even if not much), or have a large enough toolkit so the amount of variables make the reads too hard to keep up with. But if you're a Side Sig addict, you have only yourself to blame.
My biggest problem is I have full, green bars all the time and yet I often bait the dodge out of my opponent and yet the punish misses. Also, have you tinkered with the bomb catch practice mode? I've noticed really inconsistent timing on catching the bombs but I can't tell if it's just me or what.
unstable internet can do that. high ping stable internet is a lot better than low ping unstable internet because you can adjust to bad stable internet but not unstable intenet.
How do you deal with people who have longer range than you? Specifically I am having trouble playing gauntlets against longer range weapons such as lance or even scythe
You can't use the speed Dodge at the beginning anymore right? You have to hit someone to chase Dodge in order to even "speed Dodge" now or...? Cause I try to speed Dodge but it won't do it anymore and I don't see anywhere on the patch notes it being removed
I played against someone who would just try to stay away and let you come to them, then hit you back, what do you do to that? They were just sitting there.
I only match fucking scythe players. And everybody keeps telling me "sCyThE iS hArD tO mAiN" well then why literally everybody plays it? I tried to play with scythe to see if it was that hard and just won almost every game. But brawlhalla community just keep defending scythe and passive scythe players...

@@sexoamigo ye, jumping or staying to back dodge around is funny from them. I don't know what weapon is best to counter. I know smthn' with blasters, but lance or hammer feels so slow against them.
hey berthen quick question I'm lvl 12 and can beat lvl 30's and 40's without much of an issue and I can even beat them with legends they main am I good or are they bad?
Dashing back is a new thing. I'm in plat 1 and it happens pretty often how would you counter that because speed dodging isn't a thing and dash back pretty much has the same cooldown as dashing forward.
BMG: Introducing the sword where you can't dodge if you even try your best effort. Oh, they want us to nerf it? No, let's make a weapon almost like the sword but on the fists, let's call them gauntlets. Now people can easily win. Then comes along Val.
i played with my friends in a 2v1 cause i asked for it for training. at first, i was passive, merciful and was hardly even trying. i had lost the second try, i tried a bit more but i was still passive and too strategic. i lost again the third try i started trying hard as i can, at least thats what i thought. i was still very merciful and passive. i lost by the fourth try i was wondering why i was losing. fifth try, sixth try, seventh. none of them i had won, but i could tell i was getting much much more aggressive. the eighth try, they could barely even touch me. i threw combos and strings that they could not counter. i was on my second life but by then they were at one life at orange hp. i beat both of them with a double ko. i realized that playing aggressive really REALLY made a difference. just think of a few things when fighting. *your enemy is your enemy. do anything you can to get rid of them* *dont be merciful.* *be strategic, but dont be so strategic that youre passive.*
What i sometimes do while playing brawlhalla is when im falling i spot dodge just before hitting the ground then do a sair, does this video mean i need to change my dodging technique?
You don't need to change your play style at all, no matter what others say. You play the way that is fun and comfortable for you. If you play passively, it's up to your opponent to decide a good technique to beat you. And the same thing goes for being aggressive.
lexneet try to bait out the signature without getting hit, then you Can punish the spammer. With the Lucien Side sig i would bait out the signature, then jump and Attack him from above
Axel Gorris Yeah, thanks for both of your responses. I'm a relatively new player, so Berthen really helps me out with his tutorials, I play alot with more experienced friends too and they try to help me. I've played alot already and hope I can become a good player, but there's still a big future to come on my Brawlhalla Life xD
I'm not sure about these super specific methods. Please try this on a player that actually specializes in creating walls with his axe/hammer/spear/zoning tool. Try to get in with just waiting and punishing VoiD of any mixups. It takes more than just waiting and punishing to get in on that type of player.
Alternatively, you can do what I do and as soon as you notice you're playing against someone who just runs away all game, just wait. Wait for them to have to approach you. I guarantee you they're worse at knowing how to approach than you are because they've only practiced how to deal with enemies that chase them. I've played enough of SSBB that I had to get used to players like that over the years.
The dragon sin of wrath Meliodas - Sama Air born people? you mean they were born in the air? Jokes aside, learn to predict spam and stop complaining about spammers.
I generally just stay still after they dodge, since they assume you'll be aggresive. Another way to counter is just to use the weapon with the longer range, and keep him at bay because seriously, every passive player has the exact same moveset.
I 3-0'd a diamond Orion and then played against a Gold Teros who stood still and did the true combo (dlight to nsig) and dsig... ONLY those 2 moves. Me being an aggressive player got slapped. It's not even fair at this point anymore tbh, and I'm not the only one complaining alot of people on reddit are too. Passive players need a way to be punished more, just like how they took away the wall-dodging. And before anyone cries that I'm bad or some noob I'm 2150 elo currently lol so bite me.
eNocHi Well if you lost to someone like that than you are bad. Doesn't matter what elo you're in. If you seriously fell for a passive Teros, that is your fault for playing bad.
Mask it wasn't ranked and obviously I'm not bad because I lost one fucking match how dense are you. If it was ranked it would be different. it was just an experimental and I was playing aggro. just saying that even good players can lose to it
Pro Tip: If they don't leave immediately during post game chat, a good easy 0 to death is just saying "Coward. You scared huh? Scared? Little baby? Need your mama? You scared?"
The problem is there's no way to chase Dodge in the air like you do without first hitting them. So instead you have to jump which isn't as good honestly
I confess, I am a jumperagainst certain kinds of players, but that is because I play Ember and cant get hit, specially when i play +str - def Ember which works surprinsingly well
This does not really work all that much now that momentum dodge isn't a thing and you aren't granted with invunrability frames for just moving a certain direction for a fraction of a second. But, oh well I need to learn how to use this strategy.
oh if you wanted spamming you should've said so man no need to beat around the bush. You just reposition for the spam. all moves hits in a certain area, position in it's weakpoint
I don't know y but I play passive so and its weird bc most fighting games I play really aggressive and even my friends who r better than me they told me to play aggressive buy I don't know how
@@basilic1390 Btw this works pretty well up until 1800, you need even better movement because the lance players start getting more annoying. 1800+ and you should be punishing them while in the air too, while avoiding their attacks

Da CookieGod i agree it's not worth it anymore
How is he speed dodging without attacking?or is this an older version of brawl?
It is
My biggest problem is I have full, green bars all the time and yet I often bait the dodge out of my opponent and yet the punish misses.
That's the thing, my internet's solid any other time. It's only in Brawlhalla where I have weird crap happen.
sorry man I'm not tech support. I can only tell you how it works. If you want to fix it, best bet would be your ISP or contacting brawlhalla support.
Brawlhalla is the only game that lags for me aswell, its always been like that.
DiScord Chaoz the entire point of chase dodge is by hitting somebody
great video, thank you very much, will implement these tips and such in my gameplay, much love, kee it up, brother :)) 🖤..
I played against someone who would just try to stay away and let you come to them, then hit you back, what do you do to that? They were just sitting there.
Cool, now i know how to get out of gold full of scythe players xd
I only match fucking scythe players. And everybody keeps telling me "sCyThE iS hArD tO mAiN" well then why literally everybody plays it? I tried to play with scythe to see if it was that hard and just won almost every game. But brawlhalla community just keep defending scythe and passive scythe players...
@@sexoamigo and now they fuckin' buffed it with half of the combos are almost true now tho.
And WU SHANG meta appears to be played backward passive.
(AKA UP SIGS ARE FUNNY lmao)
@@nejmflight599 damn fuck scythes.
And of course they are funny, is even funnier when they call u spammer just because you are doing it to counter the fact that they dont stop jumping trying to get u with the dair
Bad
Dashing back is a new thing. I'm in plat 1 and it happens pretty often how would you counter that because speed dodging isn't a thing and dash back pretty much has the same cooldown as dashing forward.
Ya for Val's when they are looking ready to use down I throw my weapon diagonally and then down air them
THE OLD BH MUSIC IM GONNA CRY
BMG: Introducing the sword where you can't dodge if you even try your best effort. Oh, they want us to nerf it? No, let's make a weapon almost like the sword but on the fists, let's call them gauntlets. Now people can easily win.
Then comes along Val.
so you watched that one video by the guy that made how to play nix and such? wow congrats.
Great tips
if I catch someone running away the whole time, I wait for weapon spawns and use throws to pester them into going agro
Nice guide
So to beat passive, you need to be passive?
i played with my friends in a 2v1 cause i asked for it for training.
at first, i was passive, merciful and was hardly even trying. i had lost
the second try, i tried a bit more but i was still passive and too strategic. i lost again
the third try i started trying hard as i can, at least thats what i thought. i was still very merciful and passive. i lost
by the fourth try i was wondering why i was losing.
fifth try, sixth try, seventh. none of them i had won, but i could tell i was getting much much more aggressive.
the eighth try, they could barely even touch me. i threw combos and strings that they could not counter. i was on my second life but by then they were at one life at orange hp. i beat both of them with a double ko.
i realized that playing aggressive really REALLY made a difference. just think of a few things when fighting.
*your enemy is your enemy. do anything you can to get rid of them*
*dont be merciful.*
*be strategic, but dont be so strategic that youre passive.*
Hi can you say me how do you do the speed dodge? Cant figure out
What i sometimes do while playing brawlhalla is when im falling i spot dodge just before hitting the ground then do a sair, does this video mean i need to change my dodging technique?
8:49
Ah ok, so im not doing anything wrong there, sorry i missed it thanks :)
You don't need to change your play style at all, no matter what others say. You play the way that is fun and comfortable for you. If you play passively, it's up to your opponent to decide a good technique to beat you. And the same thing goes for being aggressive.
How do I deal with spammers, seriously. I keep meeting Lucien's that Press Right Click only with their melee's. ( Yes, I am a new player )
There's many ways. You can actually use the method in this video for that too. Step one is don't get hit, then there's a lot of things from there.
lexneet try to bait out the signature without getting hit, then you Can punish the spammer.
1:30 the PWP lmao
You forgot the spammers, Berthen; YOU FORGOT THE SPAMMERS !
I'm not sure about these super specific methods. Please try this on a player that actually specializes in creating walls with his axe/hammer/spear/zoning tool. Try to get in with just waiting and punishing VoiD of any mixups. It takes more than just waiting and punishing to get in on that type of player.
Players used to have 3 dodges? Wow, this game changed a lot.
Can someone explain me how to have jelow hammers on the top durring loadings time? (Or red...)
How do you speeddodge without hitting him?
You should get Cross to Diamond when he comes out. :D
U damn know he will :)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CROSS IS CANCEROUS
The dragon sin of wrath Meliodas - Sama
and so is your name.
How dare you ;o
We all know that cross is cancer, stop defending it*Spams Neutral gun sig and instantly wins agaisn't air born people* ''GGEZ''
The dragon sin of wrath Meliodas - Sama
Air born people? you mean they were born in the air?
Jokes aside, learn to predict spam and stop complaining about spammers.
I generally just stay still after they dodge, since they assume you'll be aggresive. Another way to counter is just to use the weapon with the longer range, and keep him at bay because seriously, every passive player has the exact same moveset.
stay on a medium distance make sure they miss the trow and then zone em away from any weapon spawns
SoulSword Gaming yeah alot of the times I think I can dodge it or spot dodge it but his sig is so long still get hit
Mask it wasn't ranked and obviously I'm not bad because I lost one fucking match how dense are you. If it was ranked it would be different. it was just an experimental and I was playing aggro. just saying that even good players can lose to it
in 2v2 i and my friend beat cake and dry, yet we still have flashbacks to a plat teros doing the same on the lowest part of the map.
And here comes the dash. Your answer.
Im confused! Which colour are u?
Dang i wish someone would make a video like this in 2019
(Newbie here ^^')
i don't think i can count frames so fast XD
btw thanks i hate dodges completely
How do you dodge in brawhala
Pro Tip: If they don't leave immediately during post game chat, a good easy 0 to death is just saying
"Coward. You scared huh? Scared? Little baby? Need your mama? You scared?"
The problem is there's no way to chase Dodge in the air like you do without first hitting them. So instead you have to jump which isn't as good honestly
How to counter people that are spacers?
how 2 counter hyper aggro?
I confess, I am a jumperagainst certain kinds of players, but that is because I play Ember and cant get hit, specially when i play +str - def Ember which works surprinsingly well
Ayyy another ember main. I have to agree with you on this one ESPECIALLY against teros with strength stance >.
I'm here cuz I just lost a game to a zariel spammer that jumps and run 2/3 of the game in ranked.
I went against that KEV dude.. he plays way too passive, but Katars win games
How about X spammers? SEA is overcrowded with mindless X Spammers. Like really alot
This does not really work all that much now that momentum dodge isn't a thing and you aren't granted with invunrability frames for just moving a certain direction for a fraction of a second. But, oh well I need to learn how to use this strategy.
I know this is old but pretty much what you're saying is to bait the dodge
"once you do this you're screwed" lmao
yes but how do I counter overly offensive players?
you hit them.
***** very helpful. I was expecting some explanation on effective ways off punishing blunt spamming but that works too
oh if you wanted spamming you should've said so man no need to beat around the bush. You just reposition for the spam. all moves hits in a certain area, position in it's weakpoint
I don't know y but I play passive so and its weird bc most fighting games I play really aggressive and even my friends who r better than me they told me to play aggressive buy I don't know how
How
Can
You
Chase dodge 247?
Good old times of Chain dodge...
@@mutou36 apparently
"pressure, wait, punish" aka bait?
If only I could explain a technique just by saying one word.
Im too fckn cancer then
how do I beat passive lance players that just camp in the air and only go for punishes
You stand back far enough so they can't dair or sair you and you wait for them
You can also bait them by walking forward and dashing back
@@XENOX-777 ty
@@basilic1390 Btw this works pretty well up until 1800, you need even better movement because the lance players start getting more annoying. 1800+ and you should be punishing them while in the air too, while avoiding their attacks

Actually played 3 ranked games and got three players playing exactly like this Val here. I just don't wanna play anymore ranked because I'm not even silver anymore
What about people that just run away from you with 9 speed legends
Yo teach us how to do this with Cross
