Sonic is definitely staying at earth! Because think about it even if Sonic does go back home who will he have to take care of? Long Claw is gone and ever since Tom and Maddie came into his life he’s been dedicated to his family. He hasn’t felt alone or sad. He actually feels more safe and free to have fun and live by his rules. He even said it himself in the first film that earth is the happiest place on earth if Sonic got mad at Tom for wanting to leave why would Sonic himself leave?
Definitely sonic will stay if he went back to green hill who would take care of him and he already said in sonic 1 he’s not leaving earth so my guess is he’s not

I think it can really go either way.
Sonic leaving home would be a great conclusion for the trilogy; the entire series has been about Sonic growing up and becoming more mature, while also learning how and when to be a hero. He's also become an increasing threat for Tom and Maddie, which we see in Sonic 2 and in Knuckles, where the government is constantly surveying their every move, and on top of that, Sonic and his friends are constantly getting themselves (and by proxy, others) into danger. If there was any lesson Sonic could learn from Shadow in Sonic movie 3, it's not to put the ones you love in harm's way, as Shadow did with Maria. Sonic leaving home to protect Tom and Maddie could work as a way to protect them.
However, the entire Sonic trilogy and Knuckles were focused on the importance of family and friends, and standing by your loved ones no matter what. If Sonic 3 just threw that away, it could be a bit of a hit to the message the films had been building up to this point. Couple that with the fact that Sonic 1 was almost entirely about how Sonic would never wanna leave Green Hills, and I think just having Sonic abandon everyone could be a bit of an anticlimax.
Overall though, I think both options work. Having Sonic leave Earth, or at the very least, leave Tom and Maddie, would be a fitting conclusion to his "growing up" arc, and would open up more possibilities for the writers in future films, as you wouldn't need to keep finding excuses for Sonic to meet new characters (I have no idea how Sonic would meet any other established Sonic character on Earth without having to constantly resort to explaining it away with new characters arriving via ring transportation, which'll get boring quickly). However, having Sonic stay would better fit with the established narrative of the first few films.

I they might stay on earth for at least 1 more movie, and then i think they might do a fair well to earth where they go back to mobius and fight Metal or Chaos, also i think Eggman might die in Sonic 3 because they said they'll never replace jim Carrey as eggman in the SCU and i think Jim carrey said sonic 3 will be his last movie. I think if their introducing metal it might be an alien Robot or maybe they'll do a SA1 Style movie with Chaos but on mobius, Those are just my Thoughts.

Whether people like it or not, movie Sonic has said on several occasions that earth is the place where he feels most comfortable.
If he would have wanted to leave the planet, he would have done so at the end of the second since he knows that the echidna are no longer looking for him (the main reason why he left)
if that happens the first 3 movies could be like the earth trilogy then after that there could be more focus on mobius and the characters and locations there could be explored.
If they go back to Mobius that opens up the door for a lot more Sonic characters to appear. I’d actually be okay with it either way though.

Sonic going back to his home planet to lead Eggman away from Earth is the only way he can keep his human friends safe.
If he can leave the earth, many will know or have not seen that in Spain and Mexico they saw Sonic who lives with humans and not his species of animals like Sonic boom civilians in Sonic's world That is why they imagine humans and extraterrestrials as animes that are characters who have the gift of magic, spells or anything or like cartoons like the fairy godparents who do live with humans But they know where they have to stay with the origin of their town and their house where it belongs.

I don't think that Movie Sonic will leave at the end of Sonic 3 for mostly these reasons that make sense:
1. It's his home now, and he's happy to to be there so he wouldn't want to leave,
2. The Sonic games that have a serious story plot which fans would be entertained by seeing a movie adaption of, show Sonic being a hero in a human world and Paramount confirmed that they want to make the future Sonic movie installments be avengers-style events by making them for a broader audience.
3. Paramount would be loose their chance to do that if they make Sonic next live in a world where humans don't exist because most of the Sonic games that take place on his home planet are ones from the 2010s which have a childish boring story plot, so most people (especially adult fans) would not find movie adaptions of those ones interesting and would want to boycott them.

Satam did fine without humans minus eggman, including 90s sonic games , sonic boom was a sonic comedy , similar to adventures of sonic if that's what you're referring to otherwise humans really didn't bring anything to sonic except eggman and gerald robotnik and maria, most ppl hated chris and his family in sonic x and ppl didn't like Elise from sonic 06 especially the kiss.
And it also has to have adventures outside of Earth. We have seen Sonic games that have adventures on other planets, for example, the planet of Sonic Colors is Sonic Riders as futuristic or Old to time like time Sonic the kindgoms always in the franchise it is not necessary to be on the same earth it is like dragon ball characters have to go to a planet like where Goku has to go to To namek or GT to go search for the dragon balls on other planets, that's why I say that Sonic has to have adventures in other places around here, the viewer will say why doesn't Sonic go somewhere else?That I don't know and it doesn't have to be the earth
Sonic Adventure “1” is taking place on Earth too
This is exactly what I was thinking of. Honestly I think he will return home. It would be a good fitting way to end the original trilogy so they can start a new trilogy. I think he'll be forced to return to the island because the governments and militaries will still be after him and his friends. Plus the island is hardly shown in the movies even though it's his home in the games. So I think he'll complete his own team of friends in the third movie and he'll emotionally say goodbye to Tom and Maddie and he and his team will move back to the island and make it their heroic headquarters. And then next trilogy will be far more accurate to the games showing more of the cartoon characters and less of the live action human characters and the team will actually go on adventures saving different worlds together. Plus he could still visit Earth if it's ever in trouble. It just seems so fitting.
and I hope he leaves the earth, I can't take any more of the human subplot

I think he has to considering what has happended since his arrvial, Sonics put people in serious danger and caused a crazy doctor to try and inslave humanity and go mad with power, and it could also kick-start the 4th film if there is one.

I think it'd be cool if sonic does in fact leave earth but not like leave it forever or something, only leave it to specific planets for specific reasons like his old home green hill island, something similar to angel island, etc, maybe even casino thing zone, it could be in a way where team sonic loses the master emerald and having it shattered back into the chaos emeralds while each emerald being in a completely different world and trust me, just because sonic left the earth once or more doesn't mean he can't come back, he has his rings on his side so he can come back anytime, so if something like this happens, that'd be pretty cool (probably won't happen in sonic 3 tho so maybe in the next season?? If there is even gonna be a 4th season lol)
Speaking about Sonic movies, I think at some point Tom is going to die. It sounds crazy but it would actually be devastating for sonic, it could be some very good character development and I think a movie where sonic has to defeat a bad-guy whilst also grieving would be really interesting to see.

This could also mean he’s not running away from his problems anymore considering the fact that the whole movie started because he ran away from the echidna tribe who’s was his fault since long claw told him not to show off his powers and get caught but he did and the echidna spotted him he was the sole reason long claw died also the reason tails came to earth was to find sonic and knuckles as well he might have to go back to green hill so he can stop endangering his friends because from what we know shadows his biggest threat yet more ruthless than every other person he has faced so the damage might be critical shadows not from earth and if the things said about the trailer from cinema on are true egg man will have to team to beat shadow cause remember shadows not from earth people from earth took his only attachment to human life Maria so he might want to destroy everything maybe egg man tries to contro shadow like he did knuckles but shadow won’t listen and will turn on egg man resulting in his team up with sonic and after sonic sees the damage shadow and him has done with destroying everything he might refuse to face shadow and unsteady destroys the space colony and shadow sees this remembering what Maria would have wanted helping him destroy the space colony as well since there both super I also think the movie will revoke the race to find the chaos emeralds since eggman saw there power in sonic two he may no longer be interested in Sonic’s base power but the emeralds and shadow wants the emeralds to take revenge on the planet that killed his loved ones but idk that’s just a theory a movie theory

I hope this is not true what I’m hoping to see at the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is Tom and Maddie are divorcing because that’s what Rachel wants so I think it’s time to give what Rachel wants. And Tom did tell Sonic that the universe was filled with problems, so in my mind Sonic leaving Earth is more of a fifty-fifty shot.
