The percussion was all MJ's own voice, he layered his beatboxing throughout the track to make the percussive sound.

The History album is his most personal album. He is angry, depressed, in disbelief and in deep despair mostly throughout the album. This album was written during and immediately after 1993 allegations. I believe he was fed up and said screw it, I don't give a shit and made himself naked for the album.👏🏿

Also D.S. is another similar song on the same History album. It is a diss track to the Santa Barbara District Attorney, who was obsessed with MJ and investigated the 1993 allegations and who then prosecuted the 2005 trial. He basically called him out and said he is a racist.
Another masterpiece from, what I consider to be Michael's most personal album, HIStory. This song, "Scream" and "Blood On the Dance Floor" were recorded during the same period. I wish Michael hadn't had to deal with so much crap but, man, it resulted in some incredible music. "Money", "This Time Around" and "D.S." are other notable songs from this period.

I don't know if you guys remembered his appearance at the world music awards in London in 2006, it was his first official appearance after the trial. The reception he got was phenomenal. I have never seen anything like it. It's here on UA-cam but you know what happened the following day, the entire press in UK and America reported that he was booed off stage, once again making him an object of ridicule all over the world. That was when I realized that there was an agenda where MJ is concerned. I really don't understand what the guy did to deserve that treatment. It really is shameful.
I know Mike had to take a few breaks while recording this in the studio. Every time the chorus comes on, you hear him releasing his true pain. He’s hitting the source that tried to take him out. It’s painful to listen to. It’s like he’s finally confronting the demons. But more so, just like earth songs. He’s doing his best to plea to the public to stop buying into these tabloids. It’s powerful.

Yep. MJ's rhytmical ability as a vocalist is unparalleled. I love this song so much. Exactly what Jack said about the chorus getting more and more intense on the later ones. His adlibs, everything about this track is so amazing. The syncopated rhythm. It is very very unique, very stylish or "cool" too IMO. One of my favourite songs ever.
One of my favorite cuts ever...there's just one drawback..he didn't promote it make a video or nothing...it was classic Mike ....he dont do album fillers he makes fabulous cuts called album gems just for his fans.. On his Dangerous cd he has a cut "She drives him wild" thats rates 10s across the board but again no promo no video no thing ...i get so mad can you imagine the video he wudda made for these cuts

what I always got out of this song was that the parts that were harder to understand were all referring to the lies and slander that was going on in the news and tabloids. The things that were said about Michael and other celebrities at the time, although Michael got the most of the b.s. and negative press, were all overly sensationalized. However, when you get into the chorus saying "just because you read it in a magazine or see it in a movie screen don't make it factual" it becomes very clear and easy to understand. I think Mike was using this as a metaphor and irony to how in actuality and real life people believe and hold media and lies as fact and are unable to understand and recognize the truth behind the matter. I may be reading into this song but it makes sense to me.

When i came out as Gay inn 7th grade 1990 i heard the “F” gay slur almost on the daily. So I can def confirm that Words Hurt A lot. I was bullied endlessly Verbally and Physically. The only things that saved Me Were Michael Jacksons Music both from the J5 days and solo and my small group of loyal friends. I even wrote Michael to Thank him and tell him that he had a Friend and Life Long Loyal Fan. In the letter i even confided in him. It took awhile but i got a Nice letter of support actually Hand written and signed. I never expected to get a response but it was a very nice surprise. He truly Loves his fans.
