I have to say...the lows in my mixes are much more balanced because of this sub. Everything now has that fine tuned low you hear on movies and professionally mastered albums. No more guessing with this. Like people have said over the years "...if it sounds good through 'these', it sounds good on everything." I now see how how right they all are.
does fine for what its purpose, most studio subs follow the same line but if you want real earth shaking bass you can always opt for a Velodyne or Yamaha YST-SW1200 monster but then are we doing HT or music, thats the question.
@@RoyFJ65 Or just get a Monoprice Monolith THX sub that outperforms pretty much anything from Velodyne (overpriced high end) or Yamaha (pathetic output). I'm never buying a subwoofer that doesn't have CEA-2010 measurements with it anymore. Ported subs not working for music is a myth. Plenty of ported subs with excellent decay performance, including the aforementioned Monoprice bangers (fucking Monoprice, who would have thought? I sure as hell didn't). The 12in Monolith THX is pretty much ruler flat 25-125Hz and does it at levels above 110dB with inaudible distortion.
@@Gamez4eveR Yamaha's big subs perform quite well and they remain musical at high levels unlike made for HT boomers. The HS8S is a studio use sub to be paired with the likes of their HS range, unfair to bring in THX in that realm, pretty much every sub for studio use are in that size level with exception of JBL thats slightly bigger than the likes of Adams and Yamaha. Also speaking of audio use subs, REL makes some nice sounding subs as well.
@@RoyFJ65 Anyone that has those THX subs will vow for their musicality at very high levels. With a HPF at 100Hz, the HS7s play without audible distortion at nearly 110dB at 1m in my rudimentary tests, as I use these for music enjoyment and gaming mostly I decided I'd upgrade to the THX sub. I'm not getting a REL sub that plays under 30Hz above 100dB at any realistic listening distance under 1000Eur But I'm only getting my Monolith 12 next month :(
I have an audio interface with my Yamaha Hs5 taking all the inputs, question is do I need another input slot in my interface when I get the subwoofer? Or are my speakers enough?
I am wondering, this also! My only guess, would be...straight out of the interface, to the sub...out of the sub outputs, back to the monitors. Is this right? I truly, do not know for certain.
Whilst i enjoyed your review, i felt like your background music to be too present and your voice was trying to compete to no avail. Would definitely recommend to mix the music down a fair bit. but keep the good reviews coming. 😊
You should be able to do a decent mix with HS8 monitors as they do reach low frequencies down to 38hz. The HS8S Subwoofer will help for mixing the low end more precisely from 160hz down to 22Hz. We would recommend it, but it may not be necessary for all studios & projects.
American Musical Supply No they don't. That 10 decibal cut at 38HZ. Ridiculous. And a sub will screw up the stereo separation. It is nearly impossible to figure it all out..
A sound test is meaningless, the sound quality of the Sub will be dictated by the speakers you are listening through. Example: Imaging recording a 4k video with a 5 megapixel phone camera, regardless of the quality of the original 4K video, it is ruined by recording it with a low quality camera and the recording will not give a true representation of the original.
Good review, but might I ask if the presenter is an englishman/aussie who's lived in the states for a long time? the accents kept going back and forth!

i will trust what you say so....and go for one! i have so much problem with the mix's and my masterings, lot of bass mistake on everything.... :(
Yup....that's exactly what happened to me before I got it. You'll see. The difference is night and day. Good luck!
TheChosenOne guess I need this i got hs5's a few days ago
@TheChosenOne What monitors do you pair with this sub mate? HS5-7-8?
I got mine 2 days ago, I can honestly say the exact same thing.
When setup with the HS7 its match made in heaven that allows HS7 to work its magic in mids and highs while it takes care of deep tight accurate bass.
Unless you want tangible info under 35Hz. it rolls off hard, it's a tiny pathetic 8in sub, so it's not surprising it can't actually do real subbass.

Are there ANY videos of actual sound tests or do people just talk about audio? 😑
I wonder if this sub would be a good choice for a Home Theater setup in a not so large living room
Asking myself the same. Im wandering all possible sets and combinations for my tv and xbox.
Absolutely not, get a Monoprice THX sub. This sub is pathetic for the price
Please kill the background track when someone is talking about your product. Totally not cool.

can this unit be added to yamaha msp5?!
Hi sir.. Tell me which one is the best for mixing heavy music, HS5 with sub or HS8?
This guy's accent confuses me so much. Sounds like an Aussie 90% of the time until he says 'herrrtz'.
Damn you're right. Sounds like he's grown up in Melbourne and moved to the US.
My sub chuffs with the gain set to 9oclock.. is my sub blown??
Nope, it's a tiny pathetic 8in subwoofer. You want hardcore bass, get an external crossover and something like a Monolith THX sub.
He did not use the hs8s to mix the background music and commentary:/ geez
