- Samadhi In Malawi
This was a staple of our first iteration of the band at On Broadway. We ended most 2nd sets with this. Got standing ovations! I wrote the ending first, but it was the massive thing it became. It was just a noodling jam thing. I was stuck so I wrote a little short story about what the song seemed to be about. A young African boy, 8 or 9, got the chance to go hunting with his father. In Malawi of course. Maybe 200 years ago. They get up long before dawn. The boy sees things he’s never seen before. The father tells him when they kill they kill for food only. Never for sport. It’s a sacred exchange. You must apologize to the animal and give prayer and thanks. The boy becomes enlightened on this hunt. When I got the concept the song wrote itself. Featuring the core HRG band of Henry Robinett - Guitar Joe Gilman - Piano Jacam Manricks - Tenor Sax Ben Kopf - Bass Cameron Womack Drum. Video by Phillip Kampel, Steve Dunne, Erin Campbell, Janel Hernandez. Recorded by Eduardo Garza. Video editing and audio mixing my Henry Robinett.
That was great Henry. One of my favorites!
