I drove this exact car a 2 months ago when the Porsche Driving School visited my city. I was invited by the local dealer and had a blast. Other cars involved were all black: Cayman, Boxster, and Cayenne S. The Boxster was the meanest on the course, it sideways like a drift car.
HA Ha. How mistaken u r. This one I have to reply to. I am 37 and I owned a carrera s 2005, 911 turbo 2007. sold them and in the end purchased a cayenne turbo 2008 for comfort and praciticality only because i have children. Beleive me you cannot enjoy a carrera on all types of roads like the ones we have here. Non the less, I could feel a major difference in stability between turbo models and rear wheel. BIG
They still offer a manual. Having driven that exact green 911 equipped with PDK alongside Charlie, I'll tell you that climbing into a manual version and doing laps at Miller was a step backwards. The PDK is no joke.
I've taken a drive in this PDK Carrera S, my colleague owned it, the quality is soooo solid. and anyone who thinks 385 horsepower is not enough, should really consider a test drive. Superb car.
And unless you want to nitpick, the PDK is only marginally better than the outgoing Tiptronic. You'll save a little fuel, and the shifts are ever slightly faster; but the levers are a very horizontal push/pull and not really to my liking.
Once you drive one you will Understand why it costs so much ! Can' t afford a new one get a used one! Porsche is just genius on so many levels . Get the styling right and keep it that way . Imagine if you could still get a Jag E type with modern running gear underneath or a Ferrari Berlinetta Lusso at your dealer today . Classic style with modern up to date mechanicals . A British car magazine once described the 911 as "Drive a 911 once and you will be hooked -Probably for life".
This is basically what happened to me. Lusted after them my whole life. Then 20 years later drove a 991.2 on a track. Instantly hooked. Went down a black hole of research and obsession for 2 years and now the proud owner of a 997.2 there's only one Leica camera, one submarina, one 911. Whichever one you can get, at the best condition, to suit your budget - is the best one in the world - enjoy and feel like a king ☺️
Drove one today, a 4s PDK man that car is "just sick" me and the salesman were just laughing over the power this car has took it to 83mph in like 5sec. alot of power but i still like my manuel its just fun to drive where as the pdk is about big power. ....it's still sick!
brake and downshift early for the corner, then early throttle as soon as hit the apex and use the superior rear engine rear drive grip to get you out the corner. That's how you're spose to drive a 911
This car is siiiiiiiiiiick. and anyone who thinks a 911 shuld look any differnt frm how they look is insane. its a Porsche. and this car sounds AMAZING.
People, each brand of car chasis finds its perfection in a specific engine. For example people make MAJOR mistakes and buy a BMW 520 or 523 when the chasis is perfectly made for a 535. WHY? or a mercedes amg with huge power that it cannot handle. WHY? Only a porsche chasis is designed to take full advantage of its highest engine power setting. TURBO. bellow that its not enough power.
911s are beautiful and sexy, you could have a C2S under 80k GBP with a bunch of options, it definitely isn't cheap, but comparing with V8 vantage and M6,even R8, it is a bargain.
Well, the BMW M3 most definitely has a disadvantage to the Porsche because Porsche had 50 years to improve on their 911 series and that is why they are known for there brakes, engine, reliability, and a car with the best driving feel.
its great! its fastand quite accurate but somehow doesn't feel intuitive and involving enough.. great technology though.. and somehow i love that porsche racing green.. i was never a fan of green on cars except on Jags but this colour looks great.. reminds me of the older 993 air cooled 911..
wait. that was big typo i meant you can't get a sports car like a porsche in automatic i seriously perfer an manual. the way your able to shift gears and rip the car and test its limits is much better then an automatic.
mattyoz0 i think u mean jeremy clarkson owned a f355 not a 430... ;) and when he sold his ford gt he had a choice between the 430 and the gallardo spyder and chose the latter
How could you call the M3 a camry compared to the Porsche. I mean I am a die hard Porsche fan but for the value a BMW M3 is way better than the Porsche Carrera S. More horsepower better weight distribution. The porsche's engine is in the back which means the center of gravity is placed in the back. Try to make a high speed U-Turn.
great gearbox and technology but still needs improvement.. its not the best thing to use! a regular 6 speed H gate shifter would always feel top notch!
OK, to the "Porsche and BMW Club" Guy that own´s a 25 year old 4 Zylinder.... The next Carrera will definetly have a flat six, whoever at "Porsche" secretly told you something else is simply wrong. And those engine problems of the 996/986 have nothing to do with watercooling, just with the new engine block and crankshaft that was introduced with those modells. Would have happend also if they have been aircooled. Porsche Club...yeah!
can anyone tell me why porsches are so underpowered?? you would think with their superior engineering as well as their healthy price tag that you would get more horses.
@SeEsAw121221 Their performance is great; however, to me they seem to be a bit underpowered when compared to other super cars. They remind me of the old school ducatis (pre 1098); beautiful, well made, perfectly balanced machines...just underpowered thats all
its still just a car. 100k is just too much! but once again, compared to Ferrari or lambo, this car seems like to be a bargain.Porsches are made for doctors/surgeons, Ferraris are made for Bussinessman. Yes you are right, I said it's expensive from a middle class person's view.
you can't simply get this car in manual certain cars like this cannot be in manual that's just fucked up like what dayfisher1 says, its a "bitch car" if auto
I drove this exact car a 2 months ago when the Porsche Driving School visited my city. I was invited by the local dealer and had a blast. Other cars involved were all black: Cayman, Boxster, and Cayenne S. The Boxster was the meanest on the course, it sideways like a drift car.
..I still love my '85 Carrera 3.2. Hard lines and verrry basic. Raw, if you will.
HA Ha. How mistaken u r. This one I have to reply to. the engines sound is so purrrrrrrrrrre.
They still offer a manual. Having driven that exact green 911 equipped with PDK alongside Charlie, I'll tell you that climbing into a manual version and doing laps at Miller was a step backwards. The PDK is no joke.

That killer exhaust note!
man carrera s is so cool, almost like it more than the Turbo or GT2 and GT3
its the original 911 if u kno what i mean
And unless you want to nitpick, the PDK is only marginally better than the outgoing Tiptronic. You'll save a little fuel, and the shifts are ever slightly faster; but the levers are a very horizontal push/pull and not really to my liking.

sounds fantastic on the track! Props for the fender view video!
yea same, even at a young age i would go with the PDK if lived in a city or a really populated area.
Drove one today, a 4s PDK man that car is "just sick" me and the salesman were just laughing over the power this car has took it to 83mph in like 5sec. alot of power but i still like my manuel its just fun to drive where as the pdk is about big power. ....it's still sick!

Since 2004, Carrera S has been using 3.8L Flat 6 engine, while standard Carrera is 3.6.
gorgeous car, Porsche fan for life
This car is siiiiiiiiiiick. and anyone who thinks a 911 shuld look any differnt frm how they look is insane. its a Porsche.
and this car sounds AMAZING.
4:44 "We had a gay time" lmfao
as much as I think that the 911 is brilliant, they should do something about the design. They all look so similar! And the front looks like a Beetle.

Isn't that guy a famous actor? Well, obviously not that famous seeing that I can't remember his name but he looks awfully familiar!
wait. that was big typo i meant you can't get a sports car like a porsche in automatic i seriously perfer an manual. the way your able to shift gears and rip the car and test its limits is much better then an automatic.

@FroopieLoopies under powered? the 2010 carerra 911 turbo s does 0-60 in under three seconds with less hp the an corvette zr-1,
@MrYougotjohn Holy shite. This is what I exactly think. Some people might say R8 looks better but considered everything, 911 hands down.
Thank you so much for the great "outdoor" sound footage - we need more of that to feature in automotive reviews.
i don't own a porsche i don't have money for it but as a fan of this brand i think that porsche has to be with a proper manual.
direct injection causes more turbulence in the combustion chamber resulting in a quicker and better mixture of the air and petrol
fantastic review
@jwatwater I think people who want the 911 to look different are pretty sane, I don't see what it being a Porsche has to do with anything...
@ 1:18 front wheel leaves the ground!!
was there any difference in the 3.6l engine? Im looking at a 2007
that porsche looks great!

I love how hes just cruising past other journalists
@SeEsAw121221 No you are correct--I would love to have turbo. All that power, grace and elegance; I dont excatly have 140k to get one though lol
The Cayman is the hardtop version of the Boxter.
@MrYougotjohn Have you driven an M3?
I agree these things are too expensive. It means only a very few can afford these.
great gearbox and technology but still needs improvement.. its not the best thing to use! a regular 6 speed H gate shifter would always feel top notch!

Porsche Club...yeah!
@jwatwater I agree...car sounds like music to my ears :)
does any one know if this new PDK dual-clutch transmission is made by getrag?
at what rpm do you shift?
I strongly agree with KeraiaanNasi! I have the same case!
can anyone tell me why porsches are so underpowered?? you would think with their superior engineering as well as their healthy price tag that you would get more horses.
anyone know the MPG? highway and city
thanks
hes the only smart american car reviewer I have saw.
test drove a 06 today he wants 31,9 for it i may buy one for my birthday in feb
Thats a good deal if it has less than 70k miles
Porsche for ever !
reminds me of my 202 torana gtr xu1 4.4 secs 100 km whitch my beast mates got same deal or love the new raspy gt3 but
Oh the sound of that flat-6 is just wicked!
i think i'd pick the 911 because it's a bit more practical i guess but the audi is WAY preetier
@SeEsAw121221 Their performance is great; however, to me they seem to be a bit underpowered when compared to other super cars. They remind me of the old school ducatis (pre 1098); beautiful, well made, perfectly balanced machines...just underpowered thats all
Cool car
should i get an 06 911 s or a 2010 s5
What did u get?
The sound is great!!!! uowoww
Don't go off some paid magazine test go off the people that own the cars. Jeremy Clarkson owned a 430 and he said the Turbo was faster.
Wiw..my Ford fiesta has ipod hook up

@MrYougotjohn if you dont want the 06 ill have it

Personally I think it's kinda ugly, but with a Wicked 7 bodykit, it looks super badass.
@Atzold1 Incorrect
That guy looks vaguely like Owen Wilson.
HONDA NSX TYPE-R

BEAST
twin turbo mor power lwss fuel less wheight more torque
just like the normal 911 but better in evrithing
minivan actually
Damn 100k though? A used 997 Turbo will run less!
i go for nissan skyline 2009 i think that is much better looking car and faster
its still just a car. 100k is just too much!
but once again, compared to Ferrari or lambo, this car seems like to be a bargain.Porsches are made for doctors/surgeons, Ferraris are made for Bussinessman. Yes you are right, I said it's expensive from a middle class person's view.
@ChocolateBear865 Coming from a kid who has probably never driven a car
meu sonho de consumo! my sleep consummer. BORGES sucess
man why does it cost 100.000 dollars? its too expensive.
Seriously now...an automatic 911. You might as well be driving a Prius.
@allah211 are you being sarcastic?
owners like you no thank you i own nothing lmao
i would sell my soul for a 911
you can't simply get this car in manual certain cars like this cannot be in manual that's just fucked up like what dayfisher1 says, its a "bitch car" if auto
BMW z4 is better than the SLK and the BOXSTER
Thats my car... well someday.
how many good things in life are cheap anyways? you can't even get good food for little money unless its your moms.
Spoken like a teen who has never owned a Porsche.
Yo sé qué el nueveonce es un auto deportivo, pero es mucho castigo para el motor.
I bought one for 35 grand cash
I've got a Carrera Turbo and it it'll go 0-60 faster than you can slice butter with a hot knife. I wouldn't give it up for the world! :)
thumbs up if 911 turbo is better
I don't believe you. I think you're still in high school and all those claims are what your daddy did, not you.
