1. marcello mastroianni's magnificent performance 2. a study on the emptiness of decadence and a man trying to escape from that. 3. fellini's exhilarating direction with its symbolism of religious imagery and study on the ideas of life itself. it's my all-time favorite fellini film.
i think the ending were the girl looks at Marcello walking away towards the debauchery , and then at the audience she's saying something along the lines of: " *well....he's happy with that kind of life he chose,......are you happy with yours?* " brought me to tears, and even if it is't the intended interpretation i'm glad this film made me feel that way
Three reasons: 1. The stern warning against triviality and a wasted life, which the critics of the movie's alleged "sensationalism" missed 2. The still-timely critique of celebrity culture and tabloid journalism, particularly in the "Steiner's wife" scene 3. That wonderful gesture Marcello makes with his hands at the end, when unable to communicate with Paola on the beach.
The third reason struck me the most wall watching the film. It's almost as if the title's tongue in cheek. It really shows how the high life can somehow be very unsettling and melancholy.
I watched this "Slow" movie in 1965 when I was a College student. Out of curiosity I watched it again in 1994 and I was really bewildered by the effect it had on me The movie seemed to have got stuck in my eyes. Sometime later I realized - then I was a teenager, now I have a teenaged Son. Excellent. Fellini the Maestro
Anybody else feel such NOSTALGIA watching La Dolce Vida? I've seen it so many times, it feels like my own life! Every year or so I need another dose of Dolce Vida. Asa neezy mazzy, folks!
The eccentric wealthy family and their castle. The one scene where they are directly facing the camera portrait style with their unique ensembles including the one female wearing the knight helmet.
Agree, it is one of the great film and has aged remarkably well, with outstanding performance throughout. I like his last film Armacord very much - it's brilliant.
one of the top 10 best movies ever made imo. forget about how great the movie is for a second, the score by Nino Rota is just marvelous! Cadillac Arrivederci Roma Caracalla's , love this tune
I like the scenes where they are going dancing! It’s all hands up high and chin chin chin! I’m going dancing now! And don’t I look good? Very amusing! Great film that captured the Zeitgeist of Sixties Rome and the Party life.
1. Dated (Nobody has behaved like this in decades) 2. He's a gossip columnist in the beginning and he ends up a publicity agent for actors. If anything, it is a step up for him. 3. He's so shallow there's not anything lost at the end. (How did that girl find him, anyway? She didn't even know his name or who he hung out with.)

This movie just feels alive! Every scene and shot is just bursting with personality and energy
in this 3 hours you see the whole world and life. masterpiece.
INDEED
I missed the part where they showed human connection and happiness
Three reasons:
1. The stern warning against triviality and a wasted life, which the critics of the movie's alleged "sensationalism" missed
2. The still-timely critique of celebrity culture and tabloid journalism, particularly in the "Steiner's wife" scene
3. That wonderful gesture Marcello makes with his hands at the end, when unable to communicate with Paola on the beach.
1) It captures the mood of that period in history
2) Beautiful cinematography
3) Because it was created by Fellini
O l'atmosfera d'ogni tempo.
1. The castle romp with Nico.
2. Via Veneto with Anita Ekberg.
3. Marcello, Marcello, Marcello.
One of the greatest movies ever and still I'm not sure it's Fellini's best.
No, that would be Fellini Satyricon.
+BunarinaProductions If you think Satyricon is his worst, you obviously haven't seen Fellini's Cassanova.
I rate Casanova among his best, but La Dolce Vita is tops, with 8 1/2 a close second.
8 1/2
8 1/2 is probably his best film, But La Dolce Vita and Le notti de Cabiria are my two favorites.
1) Fellini's imagination gone wild
2) It is still relevant today
3) Rota and Fellini's best
Josh Maxin ayeeeeee
1. Fellini
2.Fellini
3. Fellini
The third reason struck me the most wall watching the film. It's almost as if the title's tongue in cheek. It really shows how the high life can somehow be very unsettling and melancholy.
1. 60s Italy
2. Rota
3. Works like a series of related vignettes
you just need one reason: IT'S A GOD DAMN FELLINI FILM !
0:50 was one of the funniest moments of the film haha
1. Absolutely Beautiful
2. Humanity Outside of Entertainment
3. The Paparazzi
"Love, love, and love."
Damn, you beat me to it.

I saw this thing in graduate school and to this day the film astonishes me. There's so many ways to create art in film and this one shines~
Otello Martelli (DoP) is stunning on this movie. la Dolce Vita, even for photography only, is worth watching.
The eccentric wealthy family and their castle. The one scene where they are directly facing the camera portrait style with their unique ensembles including the one female wearing the knight helmet.
That was Nico wearing the helmet. I loved her laughter: Ho Ho.
RIP Anita Eckberg
Agree, it is one of the great film and has aged remarkably well, with outstanding performance throughout. I like his last film Armacord very much - it's brilliant.
He made 7 feature films after Amarcord, his last film was The Voice Of The Moon in 1990.
Fantastic Film.
Three reasons? Three words: La dolce vita
I'm literally watching this trailer, sitting at home waiting for delivery of the Criterion Essential Fellini box-set later today. I'm VERY excited!!
They have him saying he meant it and not satire; it truly does show how much better Rome was then LA then , now both are dead.
Thousands of reasons !
Marcello's STYLE man that style has aged so well.
Fellini's irreverent take on the Catholic Church
A true reflection of Rome in the 1960's
Marcello the actor at his best, Fellini at his best
The one that got me into film. Thank you Professor, thank you Fellini.
I can't forget the first time when I watched the scene where Marcello meets a young girl named Paola in some beach restaurant
O melhor filme de todos os tempos. Creio que só isso basta...
Masterpiece!
1) Fellini and Mastroianni, a classic
2) Questions about pain of living...
3) ... but all with irony and enjoyable scenes.
one of the top 10 best movies ever made imo. forget about how great the movie is for a second, the score by Nino Rota is just marvelous! Cadillac Arrivederci Roma Caracalla's , love this tune
could've just said it's the greatest movie of all time
Aw man, it seems i was too late to get my hands on La Dolce Vita on the Criterion Collection. ☹️
My favorite, I know it's a unpopular opinion but for me it's his best work.
1. Fellini
2. MARCELLO
3. Rota
agreed. FUCKING MARCELLO MASTRIONNI IS THE MAN!
+Josh Maxin MARCELLO!
What is the name of the second song ?
Yo Criterion, how about 3 legitimate reasons that a digital release isn't available for the American market? Please make it happen!!
I was going to make a comment, and then I read those below. They got it, so there is nothing for me to add.
Can't be topped.
Simplicemente eccezionale!🐬🌻🐳
❤️Fellini masterpiece.
I don't know, I've been so infused by 8 1/2 , it enhances la dolce vita.
I like the scenes where they are going dancing! It’s all hands up high and chin chin chin! I’m going dancing now! And don’t I look good? Very amusing!
Great film that captured the Zeitgeist of Sixties Rome and the Party life.
I would like to see the trailer of the dubbed English version
it was partially supervised by Fellini himself
Fellini's films are extraverted and carnival like.
1. marcello's eyelashes - just one good reason
No sé la de cantidad de veces que vi La Dolce Vita
Eterno Felllini
can someone please tell me the names of the music pieces in #1 and #2? I can't place them in the La Dolce Vita soundtrack
They are on the original CAM soundtrack. I just listened to it again yesterday
1. Frederico Fellini's best film
2. Marcello Mastroianni's best performance
3. 1960's Rome
3 reasons what? What’s the context here?
1. Persol Sunglasses
2. Frankie the Zeus figure dancing with Anita
3. Disinterested café dancers.
Love you
Went right over my fucking head
Via Veneto fu ricostruita in un set cinematografico..,..non fu dato il permesso di girare dal "vivo"
Why is this masterpiece out of print?!?!! We don't all have to suffer just because of American philistinism!
Am I the only one confused here
Yes
otto e mezzo was better
And what is better than 8.5?
1. Dated (Nobody has behaved like this in decades)
2. He's a gossip columnist in the beginning and he ends up a publicity agent for actors. If anything, it is a step up for him.
3. He's so shallow there's not anything lost at the end. (How did that girl find him, anyway? She didn't even know his name or who he hung out with.)
She wasn't looking for him, it was a chance encounter. What led you to believe that she had been searching for him?
Wow the cinematography ❤❤❤❤❤ on my list
