THE CREATIVITY FROM THEM CHICKEN PICKERS KNOWS NO BOUNDS! Grew up on Rock since moving from Jamaica to Canada at age 6. Would never give the time of day to country growing up. Saddens me that I missed all those years of possibly learning some amazing licks, concentrating mostly on rock. Too late no. No time... 😢
Great stuff.. I’ve transcribed a whole ton of Johnnys tunes/lead breaks.. You definitely nailed this incorporating Johnny Hiland’s signature stylistic idiosyncrasies.. The bent ascending/descending double stop 3rds & his Danny Gatton influenced vocabulary is all in there! 👌🏻
Well done! I've known Johnny for 20 years, we're both from Maine. He is the real deal. Seen him do Orange Blossom Special with Denny Breau ( Lenny's very capable brother) and leave the crown breathless and seen him humble Phil X ( bon jovi) and make Russ Brown( Pantera) smile at Douglas Corner with a mind blowing version of Funk 49. A song Johnny didn't know! After the set Phil came to the table and asked Johnny if he ever ran out of ideas lol. He and Kimmie girl are 2 of the best humans on the planet. For those who haven't been down the Johnny rabbit hole, GO! It's Gatton, Atkins and Van Halen with many other stops along the way! Great playing sir!
Wow! I did get to see Johnny Highland about 20 years ago at the Form in Anaheim sponsored by the NAMM show. James Brown Band opened the show followed by Johnny the Pat Travers. Johnny and his tele killed it. As for this video it was amazing.
When you go to all the effort of learning something like this note for note, then you stop and realize that these guys are IMPROVISING this stuff at double the speed it’s very humbling.
I can assure you I could listen to this for the next 20 years and Not be afflicted with this terrible disease you seem to now have. Incredible playing, hope you don't get a cure any time soon.
Johnny Hiland is absolutely a beast, the first time I got introduced to this guy with Barnyard Breakdown man shit caught my ears the first second dude has impeccable execution and feel.
it's pretty whole nice complete cool hot thing, not just mimicking, it's sound at least not bad) and it's good not only for a country but it's good for 50s style hotrod rocknroll. and whats better if i try to play it 0.75 of tempo i have some chances to complete it with some work i have chances to play it original tempo! thank you!
The right amount of Johnny indeed!! Hey man, I can’t see your left hand real well, but it looks like you’re running a lil pick in between your thumb and index, but I can’t tell how many other fingers you’re engaging for that Travis stuff. I’ve been trying to learn some of this myself and I hate thumb picks, but that independence is being a pain to nail down. Nicely done…. How long did you work on that peice? Thanks for posting!!
Been playing guitar for 40+ years...mostly rock and blues. But when it comes to this style...I bow my head in shame!!😂😂
Me too...Absolutely no chicken pickin' here. Never got it.

It's a big club and I'm in it too.

Johnny Hiland...yet ANOTHER incredible disciple of King Edward
I'd say you're listening to the just the right amount of Johnny Hiland. Great playing and tone.
Great stuff well presented and performed - there is a lot to learn from this.
