    Nice! This is such a dense system to handle all at once so I'm happy to see you kept it 'simple' with only Drezno and Lipsk. I think it's very good there's videos by different content creators floating around explaining these modules in their own way. The more information out there about it the better.

      Very true! I decided to spend a lot of time trying to grasp the core concept of 8-bit conversion. But there is so much more to explore and highlight. I like your extensive series on the system as well. Lot's of detailed scope shots and approaches. For people who like to dive deeper, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/ufCTEqmpP3U/v-deo.html

  • @tcrist56
    @tcrist56 Рік тому

    MTT, I'm trying to wrap my head around the 30:48 moment where you have two gates from Drezno mixed and then sent to a quantizer. Are those two gates now voltages from Drenzo making a melody? I would think they would just be static pitches.

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  Рік тому +2

      Yes. But to be clear, the high melody you hear in that patch is made with the DAC output (right side of the patch- diagram). The left side is making a 4 note bassline. Indeed the gates from Drezno are static and the same. The crucial part here is the mixer. This allows for attenuation of each of the two gates, and of course it mixes the two gates together. This way you have 4 optional states. When no gates of Drezno are on. When one or the other is on. And when both are on. Each combination will give another note, and you can use the mixer to dial them in.

    • @tcrist56
      @tcrist56 Рік тому +1

      @@MonotrailTechTalk Thanks so much for that clarity. So, by mixing the gates you are getting three different voltages that produce three pitches.
      I am going to have to try this.

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  Рік тому +1

      4 even :) Gates 1-2 off-off (that will be the pitch you tune the oscillator) Gates on-off (you can set this note by attenuating the gate on the mixer) Gates off-on (same) Gates on-on (this is the sum of both gates mixed together).

      Glad to hear you like the video an modules! To be honest, that wouldn't be my go to thought. Of course you could use really slow patterns to trigger other events and create 'sections' of a song. This could be cool in more ambient or self-generative setups. But if you really want a clean A>B>C>D kind of song progression I expect any basic hardware sequencer will be more easy to use :)

  • @ericMT

    I think they call it ADC because gate outputs are either on or off which can be considered a digital output. We tend to think of gates as analog but since there are only 2 states like a binary number, I can see why they consider gates to be digital since one variable input is being converted to one of 256 individual output patterns.

    • @MonotrailTechTalk
      @MonotrailTechTalk  4 місяці тому

      Quite true. An analog signal is converted to a digital 8 bit signal. So Analog to digital conversion. The are consistent in that idea, which helps, because some modules do just that. But in truth in Drezno's left side, an analog signal is converted to a digital binary number, and then to analog gate patters. Cheers!

      @@MonotrailTechTalk Do you find that you can get semi-predictable results with this system? One of the main criticisms I hear is that it doesn't feel very intuitive. I'm mainly interested in the Leibniz sub-system as a more focused and controlled alternative to purely random generative sequencing and triggering (with which I often feel more like I'm asking a robot to write music for me, rather than making decisions myself)
