There are two points of research you seem to have missed: Search for "Matt Campbell - The Process" and then learn who Jack Trice is and what he means to this team. Those are truly the X factors at Iowa State.

I agree. Hansen showed enough last year that he will likely be ahead of almost any freshman or transfer. To totally miss him in the RB analysis is unbelievable. His downplaying of the departure of DeShawn Hanika is another miss in this analysis. The TE room is jam packed with talent, but Hanika was special.
A key for the secondary is Verdon staying healthy. The secondary would take a large step backwards last year when he wasn't in the lineup. The biggest wild card, and the one what will have the greatest effect on whether they win 7 or 10 games is the offensive line. When they brought in Ryan Clanton, they had to do a wholesale philosophical change in body types to match the scheme. You had someone who started very early in their career in Darrell Simmons who couldn't make the adjustment and transferred out when he lost his spot to Freshman James Neal. They brought in a new S&C coach at the time they hired Clanton as well. The offensive line has been a thorn in Campell's side since he's gotten here and the last position group to break through and play at the level necessary. I think this is the year they finally do, and if they do, it could be a magical season... and it won't matter who the running backs are. Eli Green will be the biggest surprise at receiver.
I think all Cyclone fans were pleasantly surprised by the quality of play in 2023. And the team just kept getting better throughout the season. No idea if there will be a sophmore slump this fall. I hope not. In fact I expect this team to get better as the season moves along. And any talk about Matt Campbell leaving is nonsense. He and his family are quite comfortable in Ames right now. Maybe that changes when the kids are old enough to be out of the house.
Great analysis. The Cyclones have the talents, but mentally they gotta take the next step - raising their game vs better teams and not playing down to the level of lesser ones. They gotta believe they belong among the top dogs, not only in the conference, but also the country.
Really good stuff here, Joe. Iowa State has an Elite group of safeties and Becht has some weapons to use on offense. OL play and the ability to create pressure will be the key for the Cyclones this season.
Yeah I knew they were a 3-3-5 but wanted to include a few players that would be regulars (just didn't know how to format that). McLaughlin would be a huge injury for that defense. I still like their depth tho

This analysis completely misses Carson Hansen. He’s going to be a gamer this year.
I think he’s going to have his backup spot taken. He was really just pretty average when he played last year. Dylan Lee is probably a lot better.

Army went to spread last year, I think I heard they’re going back to triple but just to be clear they definitely were a normal college offense.
FYI Cyclones play a 3-3-5, Mclaughlin broke his leg, Cooper Ebel sounds like he will taking Will's place.
