Il cervo in amore e i lupi - The red deer in love and the wolves

Questa è una stagione molto interessante in Appennino centrale.
I principali attori del pascolo naturale, i cervi, sono in amore e i maschi sono quasi esclusivamente focalizzati sulla competizione intraspecifica per aggiudicarsi l’harem di femmine e riprodursi. Questo sembra distrarli da situazioni potenzialmente pericolose che accadono intorno a loro, come quella ripresa nel bellissimo video girato dal nostro Field Officer Fabrizio Cordischi.
I lupi sembrano molto giovani, probabilmente fratelli nati quest’anno, e mostrano più interesse a rafforzare la propria relazione sociale con atteggiamenti affettuosi che al grande cervo a pochi passi da loro… Chissà se questo è dovuto alla loro giovane età oppure alla pancia già piena…

This is a very interesting season in the Central Apennines.
The main actors of the natural grazing, the red deer, are in their mating season and the males are almost exclusively focused on the intraspecific competition in order to own the harem with females and reproduce. This seems to distract them from the potentially dangerous situations that happen around them, like that one filmed in this beautiful video by our Field Officer Fabrizio Cordischi.
The wolves seem very young, maybe they are siblings born this year, and show more interest to reinforce their social relation with affectionate attitudes than to the large male red deer that stands a few steps away… Who knows if this is because of their young age or the belly already full…
