One of the best explanations I have seen on UA-cam; Question: I have a Presonus Studio 24C. Do I need a preamp like an ART Tube MP to make it sound better? Or is the interface preamplifier enough? Will these interfaces be well designed to use line input?
Thank you for your efforts to debunk some headphone amp myth. One thing is when driving demanding headphones some may not be powerful enough to produce enough volume. Other than that nothing to worry about.
Yeah, that 's true. I did test the output volume, but I wanted to keep this video under 5 minutes, so I wasn't able to squeeze those results in there. I show those tests in the "best interface of 2024" video.
I HIGHLY suggest reading the old blog from NwAvGuy. The major conclusion is that low output impedance is extremely important, with low impedance headphones that use balanced armatures (which is many IEMs) being extremely sensitive to it
Hey i want to buy interface for beyerdynamics dt990 pro but i ve heard that's with a lot of interfaces this headphones are too quiet. Could you reccomend some good audio interface thats also not too quiet for beyerdynamics
I can't decide between the Scarlett 3rd Gen and the 204HD. I can get a 2i2 for cheaper than the 204HD bc of Focusrite's "Studio Trade-In" policy. I plan on using a dedicated Headphone amp regardless of the interface. So "best value" aside, since the scarlett would be cheaper in this case, would you still say the UMC204HD is better than the Scarlett 2i2? I only really care about the recording quality and ADC. Even if it's minute lol I'd love to get your 2 cents. Thanks for all the work you do I love the vids!
When I say this I don't mean any harm but you can tell he doesn't like Focusrite, probably for personal reasons. I believe most who watch him don't like Focusrite either but it is still one of the best and wins plenty of awards. He doesn't take a aggressive approach more of a passive one. He always has one in the reviews, he just doesn't refer to it a lot or says it's average and leaves it at that, even in this review it was 2nd and he didn't mention, he mentioned the bottom two but only the top one lol, people are something else. Never be fooled by people. In one video he was using a Focusrite rack mount it was a quick glance but clear to see. Things that are very popular some seem to really have disdain for them.
I have no personal reasons to dislike focusrite, they've never wronged me. I'm just not overly impressed with their products. Yes, I use a pair of Focusrite Clarett octopre's as external preamps, and I find them rather noisy. I have 2 of them, and in my preamp noise floor comparison graph, I used the values from the quieter one. Thanks for the comment :)
I read all the comments, though I don't always reply. Many of the comments do influence my future videos. However, I could not find your previous comment, so I'm not sure.
Men, you're the only UA-camr who prefer the Behringer Interface and rejects the MOTU, that makes me suspicious of your methods and impartiality in this test.
I am biased towards MOTU interfaces but he is correct that the M2 has issues. I teach at two schools and we have students using MOTU M2s they all same the same issue, which I believe he points out in his Audio Interface Comparison video. The issue is for some reason the headphone volume control affects the Microphone input. If you turn up the M2s headphone volume to a level north of 2:00 it starts to add distortion to the Mic pres. These two components of the interface should have absolutely nothing to do with each other, but somehow they do. I should note this a "pinky up" it's a subtle issue that's hard to hear, it's actually pretty dang audible when you pull up the preamp for a signal and the headphones are at a higher level. I personally use an Ultralite mk5 and like it myself. In my testing with my particular unit it has a low noise floor and the headphone Outputs DO NOT affect the preamps in my testing either. I do wish that the Loop Out function was less clunky though.
What are you saying? A real hogh impedance studio headphone ora the sundara itself cannot be driven to good listening levels unless you're using: clarett, audient mkii interfaces, and few more... even with the m50x the behringer distort at unlistenable levels
I don't know what equipment this guy using on these measurements but many of his measurements are not rigorous at all: Noise floor in dB (not DB) with positive numbers? Line input dynamic range of 70 (no unit?)? I assume you mean dB, with +12dBu max input level, the noise floor is -58dBu. That's ridiculous. Please, learn some basics and at least by a professional audio analyser before you publishing any technical figures.
If you can do it better… then why don’t you take your own advice and buy all the testing gear, and all the interfaces and start making your own videos showing the results the way you think it should be done.
@@Get.Beautiful.RecordingsLol, what makes you think I don't have those gears? I got both Audio Precision SYS-2722 and an APx500 right on my desk, I'm professional R&D in this industry. I don't need money from making videos. If you really understand what you are saying in the video, you should debate on the numbers!

These videos are so informative and must have taken some effort, deserves more views
Thanks :) glad you liked it
You still think there will be no differences with RME or Lynx ?
I need mastering grade DAC / headphone amp for mixing and mastering ..

The key question is whether there’s any difference to HIFI headphone amps? Like the toppings?
What do you think about the new presonus quantum HD2?
On paper though, despite there being no discernable difference the phase shift on the SSL 2 seems like most minimal?

You should review the Topping E2x2!
Curious what you think of the new Topping E2x2!

Hi! have you ever tried antelope audio interface?
I intend to try one soon
@@Get.Beautiful.Recordings I am about to buy the antelope quadro soon
+1 Thanks!
Oh heck to the yes!
Where o where is RME:)

Perhaps I’m the only UA-camr who really is impartial.
