- In this video, I'll give my 1-year review of the Emotiva XMC-2.
I'll share my thoughts on it as well as discuss the new Next-Gen Emotiva processors that are coming out sometime this year.

I LOVE my XMC-2. I’ve had it for over a year as well. I first got the Denon x4700 and had that in pre pro mode, it was ok but I upgraded to the Marantz 7706 and it blew the Denon out of water. I decided to upgrade to the xmc2 and it sounded incredible, like by miles compared to the Marantz and Denon. The marantz sounded like a great home theater, but the xmc-2 sounds like a REAL cinema.

I think you’re on point. I sent mine back after about 4-5 months and bought the Monolith. That was over two years ago, and they still have so many of the same issues I was experiencing.
Yeah it’s still giving me issues. Better now that it’s fixed but man still buggy.
@Danny....what do you mean when you say buggy? I actually just bought this processor last week...what should I be looking out for?
Why is it that Monolith isn’t available until December? Are they coming out with a new model or just supply chain issues?
I appreciate your work in presenting this information. It's basically what I've heard elsewhere and sorely disappointing because I love the "idea" of Emotiva. They seem very customer focused, they're local and the sound quality is great from what I've heard. Concerning the AVM70, I had one and ended up sending it back because of the unforgivably poor UI. I think we're just in a waiting mode unless you want to pony up for the Marantz AV10.

I’ve been researching hard for the past several months since my aging receiver died. I keep coming to the same conclusion, that I wish I could wait a year or two to allow these processors to mature. I do wonder how the Anthem sounds compared to the Arcam because the Arcam seem to be pretty stable. I might have already gone Monoprice if they were available. I to love the idea of Emotiva and have three of their monoblocks without regret. During this time I had to have something so I got a Schiit Syn which has been fun and cheap but mainly just a stop gap and doesn’t compare to any of these processors. I really just want what the Emotivas already have minus the bugs and could live a long time without 8K. I hope they can keep the sound quality while moving to TI chips.
Have to correct you the xmc-2 does have differential dacs on all channels. The difference is only the front left, center and right channels have the dacs running in mono mode which gives a better signal to noise ratio. The rest of the channels have 2 channels on each dac chip. With the rmc processors all channels have dacs running in mono mode. I do agree about bugs although my complaints are more about occasional sound glitches. I don’t get lag too often. Still say the sound quality is best I have heard outside of the altitude 32 which is the benchmark.

Need to correct you: it does not, The current XMC2 ( I own one) only offers differential channels to the front R/L and center channel. The new version coming out, will have all differential channels. The RMC1, does have all differential channels as well as the RMC-1L.

This is one reason why I went with the Marantz av7706 processor few years ago. Part of me would still like to hear how the xmc2 sounds though. But the bugs keep me from buying it.
Yeah the XMC-2 sound quality is unmatched for its price. They really put that as priority. It can hold its own with even $6000 processors that I I’ve heard.
@Danny Roldan is there is big difference ins sound quality for movies and gaming ? I never use my theater for music. And do you experience EARC issues ?
@@jayjustgames1725 Hey, so I don’t use EARC but when I did test it, I was having issues with it. It was not getting a signal through. But this might be solved as Emotiva just yesterday replaced the HDMI board on my XMC-2. So I’m guessing it was Hardware issues. I’ll try it again. For movies and games, Movies have a higher quality audio file than games do. But when you play games the sound is amazing and immersive.

Thanks for the review I was undecided between the XMC-2 and the AVM 70 until now. I do prefer the sound of the Emotiva but am not willing to live with a bug ridden processor.
Hey no worries! Yeah the avm 70 is better with having more features and less bugs. But if u want sound quality but willing to have crazy amounts of bugs. Emotiva it is. Glad u enjoy the video.

@@chopshop523 I agree and it has no buddy issues, but Emotive sounds way better and is cheaper.
I have had an XMC-2 for a few years and the only bug I have a big issue with is sometimes you get a metallic sound. It is easily fixed by switching sound modes an going back. I do wish Emotiva would fix this though. It isn't enough to get me to ditch the processor though. One thing that isn't mentioned about Emotiva enough is they do have great support and are good about upgrades. They have new processors coming out and a good trade in program to go from the XMC-2/RMC processors to the next gen processors. To me IMAX enhanced is a gimmick but the next gen Emotiva processors will have it. They will also have 8k HDMI ports. The Anthem is also great. Always liked their stuff also. The Emotiva is better sounding though especially if you listen to 2 channel music. The only better sounding processor I have heard is the Altitude 32 and it is a huge jump in price.

I have this processor....I also have the lastest firmware update which is 3.2v. Im only have 1 issue. I lose total audio after 3-4 days of doing a reset with the standby button. I even lose tv only audio. I have to reset the xmc-2 to fix the issue every 3-4 days. This is extremely frustrating. Had i known this i would have waited and gotten a higher-end processor. I would not recommend this processor. I had it for about 5 months brand new from the factory.
Any update on the bugs since firmware updates have been released? Or did you move on from emotiva?
I think there’s a new update but I’m currently building out my theater. Once that’s done and equipment is set up I’ll double check.

Yea this is with the most recent update. I got the update the day it was released and it still has issues. Sent it to Emotiva for repairs so we’ll see if that changes anything. I’ll do an update video on it when it comes back!

@@Rob_James Yeah man will do! I agree as well. The sound quality is no doubt better than anything around its price range and even higher. But it’s been rough with all the issues. Do you have a Emotiva Processor? Thx for the comment as well👍🏽
@@dannyroldan_av yes sir. I have the xmc 2 had problems at the beginning esp with the handshake when I switched components but thankfully it’s been soooo much better since the update Now I’m actually loving the sound and performance
No the new update doesn’t resolve the bugs. Stop telling lies!! This thing has passed me off! I’m selling it low now. Never going back to emotiva!!
Sounds like they used the same people designing ROTEL processors.
Sorry, but TI DACs are garbage. Can't believe emotiva is downgrade like this. I'm disappointed.

That’s my concern as well. I hope they keep the sound quality otherwise what are they competing on?
Request the new firmware, not available on their site, the new firmware is 3.1 the one I got that fix everything is EmotivaUpdate-2022_12_08-3_1_2
