  • This is a detailed video showing how to glue on the guide rails and lower support rail on the window of a 1975 R107 Mercedes SL. We tested various different glues and hybrid sealants before settling on the OB 1 product. At the end of the video we show the cheapest place to buy the lower rubber channel and where to purchase adhesive and other parts you may need for this job.

I did this very same job, I just used general automotive black silicone, it has been holding for over 5 years with no issue.

Thanks for your comment. You would have thought they they are all much of a muchness...but I was surprised at the difference in strengths when I did my test. Do you remember what brand you used? Mike

Thanks for you comment and I hope the trip back goes OK. Unfortunately, the things I need from USA are a bit bulky (seat covers carpet set etc) otherwise I would jump at the offer. Just when you land in Blighty, I'll probably realise I need some obscure part that is a fraction of the price in the USA. Mike

@@MikesMercsandothercars Hi Mike. My car may have a couple of spots where the underneath protection has gone. Do you have any recommendations? Preferably paint on, but spray on would be ok. I was looking at CRC heavy duty marine. But doesn’t seem to be available in the uk and it’s not the sort of thing that I can bring back.

@@Nilfaultfound22 Hi - you could use the Eastwood Ruberised Rust Encapsulator which comers in a spray can from FROST UK. For something more durable, POR15 can be painted on...or even good old Wavoil. Mike

Fantastic video again , my R107 has a glass rattle/ buzz with window up on closing the door - just ordered inner and outer scraper seals - do you think your video is the problem , did Tate door card off previously? Didn’t find any parts in the door gully ?
    Love your SL videos 👍

Thank you for your kind comments! Yes, I would say you have a loose or missing window guide. With the door card off, you should be able to operate window and see what is going on. Mike

Hi Mike , spent over an hour taking the door card off because of the arm rest bolt 🤬
The smaller metal runner has lost its bond / glue sealant door lock end , still in place but loose … I was hoping there is a way I can re-glue somehow whilst the window is still in the mechanism in the door rather than attempt your video
So I suppose the good news is, I have found the door rattle/buzz noise 👍
Possibly think it’s above my capabilities of getting the window glass out following your video and setting the Window back up to work properly ?
      🤦

@@jabber10660 Well done for identifying the root of the problem. Nothing is beyond your abilities.....the only thing that stops us doing our own work on these cars is the mistaken belief that someone else can do it better. Nobody will care more about fixing our car than you, and there are not a whole bunch of mechanics/workshops queueing up to do this kind of work. My advice would to to have a go and if somehow you mess it up...take it to someone else. You will have a great sense of pride if and when you attempt this job.....Good luck. Mike

Hi Mike - Am I right in saying you did a video on re-painting the air filter housing on an R107? I just can't seem to find it at all.

Hi mate, great video as always. Looking for a bit of advice.
Long story short i had someone replace my windscreen today and i asked them to replace the passenger window whilst they were at it (it shattered whilst the car was having some work done) the guy fitting spent half hour or so attempting to fit before saying there was an issue with the regulator/mechanism making it risky for the window to actually be fitted (confirmed the window is the correct one) He said it all needed to come out & apart to be re lubricated as there was too much resistance meaning the window could potentilly break if fitting was forced. I am in the early stages of looking into this issue - is this something that sounds plausible to you? I dont know particularly much about how the windows work as yet so I wasnt sure if he was trying to fob me off to get to the next job or not. Thanks (sorry for essay)

@@jamesscoging0612 Nice car. it is certainly possible for the window mechanism to require lubrication before the window goes up smoothly. I am not 100% sure how the 300sl windows attach, but if it is anything like my old 1985 SL, the lubrication (and fitting) should be something you can tackle yourself. Is the door car still off? If not, the video below shows you how to remove it. Mike
