  • Welcome to the Mother 2 Deluxe (M2D) 2.0 Boss Run.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Earthbound, Mother 2 Deluxe 2.0, or any other Nintendo products. These videos are solely meant to serve as a walkthrough/guide on how to handle the enemies and their increased difficulty.
Credit to Messianic for creating the patch and MegaHarv on UA-cam for both testing the game and providing a walkthrough. Links to PK Hack to download the patch and MegaHarv’s UA-cam channel where a full playthrough of M2D can be found below:

    MegaHarv M2D playthrough: • Mother 2 Deluxe 2.0
Mother 2 Deluxe (M2D) 2.0 is a patch of Earthbound designed for people that have played the OG SNES Earthbound and want something a little more challenging. M2D is fundamentally similar to Earthbound, but the enemy/boss difficulty has been significantly increased. There are other changes built into M2D, but rather than listing all of them, I have included the links above to give you more in depth answers as to what has been changed.
For this boss run, I do have some stipulations for the way I will provide gameplay:
    1. With the exception of Jeff’s tools (including pencil rockets and bombs), all other item use in battle will be kept to a minimum unless I think it is absolutely necessary.
    2. I will go into each boss with as much HP and PP as possible.
    3. I will go into each boss with the best available equipment possible, depending on what point of the game I am in, of course.
    4. I would highly recommend creating a save state before each boss if you are playing the game yourself. This ensures that you won’t have to worry about back tracking as much.
    5. Fights will be completed with all party members conscious regardless of status (except diamondizing)
All character stats, equipment, and items will be shown before each fight. Not all characters will be present for every fight, but I still want to be transparent in how I recommend distributing stat boosting items throughout the game, meaning the capsules or mystical candies (rock candies in OG Earthbound). The distribution is below:
Ness: All Guts capsules, All Speed capsules, 1 Mystical candy in post credits (Speed boost +2)
    Paula: All Vitality capsules
Jeff: All Luck capsules, 2 Mystical candies (Vitality boost +4)
Poo: All IQ capsules, 1 Mystical candy (Vitality boost +5)
If you have any other questions regarding the bosses, please feel free to comment! Thank you for your time and enjoy the video!

While Poo takes a brief leave of absence to train with his master, Straight Flush, to learn the “technique to make stars rain down,” we make our way through Deep Darkness. Deep Darkness is a tough area full of deep water that causes us to lose health slowly while below the water line. Regardless, we push forward and eventually find our path blocked by a familiar enemy: the Return of Belch, just like the variant we fought in Belch’s factory.
While Return of Belch is obviously stronger than Master Belch, their fight patterns are similar, so the strategy remains the same. However, the Fly Honey will not help us like last time, so don’t bother bringing it. Have Ness first set up Shield ∑ to mitigate PHYSICAL damage. From there, heal and bash as necessary. You can also try using PK Flash to try for crying or feeling strange status or use PK Rockin if you see an opportunity. Instant Guts pills for Ness are also an option if you have any. Have Paula use PK Fire or PK Freeze if you want to try solidifying Belch for a turn and have Jeff use any Super Bombs or just shoot. You could also get lucky with some damage from the Hungry HP-Sucker.
Master Belch can attack continuously on one party member or wildly/go berserk at random party members so setting up shields is vital. You should also make sure you have a couple Horns of Life or Cups of Lifenoodles. Belch can blow his nauseating breath at us to make us nauseous and can even call for help and summon Barfy Slimes. The latter can help determine what PSI Paula can use. If Belch summons enemies behind him and you want to try and attack everyone on screen, try PK Thunder Ω. Otherwise, just stick to PK Fire if they are summoned on the front row with Return of Belch.
Just when we think we’ve had it, Poo swoops down and finishes off Return of Belch with his newly acquired PK Starstorm α. Once the battle ends we make our way through the remaining bits of Deep Darkness and eventually stumble across a small village nearby.
