People are tired of this helpless people that need to defend themselves approach. They are not victims, because the Jews were persecuted by Nazis the world had a war to stop the suffering. This is a very courageous stand taken by an imam addressing a highly relevant, public interest political issue from within a masjid in New York. His message is rational, founded on our primary sacred sources and makes a direct appeal for resistance against Israeli oppression.
Many Muslims in the USA are cautious to fearful of openly expressing solidarity with the just cause of Palestinians because of the political thuggery of powerful Israeli lobbies in the USA. Imam Tom is an inspiring exception. May other American Muslim religious leaders follow suit.

I personally am physically and mentally ill to see that prayer mats are being trampled inside and outside & being walking on, beating, pushing, shooting of worshippers in the middle of worship. Because of the Palestinian resistance we have Islam that we practise in ur comfort in our living room, we should be ashamed! May Allah bless you for this sermon 🙏

Fun fact. The Palestinians put prayer mats OUTSIDE the mosque on Temple Mount at Passover and Easter time. Inside the mosque they were smuggling in rocks and stones and fireworks to rain down on Jews praying at the Wailing Wall.

Yes I get the meaning of how blessed Muslims in U.S are from this qhutbah. That we can make such a bold sermon in itself is the greatest act of contribution. I say this living in a Muslim majority country in the middle east who have normalised ties with the state of Israel l, where the Imams can never talk anything political and all they can mention Palestine is in a passing dua and in a generalised manner.

I love how you articulated that the Palestinian issue has meaning and resonance for so many Americans (muslim and non Muslim) because we are hardwired (as Americans) to detest tyranny. We lionize leaders like Malcom X and Martin Luther King and JFK and so many others because they stood up against tribally. Truthfully, it has to be one of the greatest dichotomies of our time as American Muslims; to live in a country that allows us complete freedom to worship as Muslims, build communities and celebrate our connection to Palestine …. while simultaneously using our tax dollars to destroy the people and the place we hold so dear to our hearts.
