    I made a 6 foot tall blue cobalt wrench for a gnome buddy, I wish I could show you, it was my first and I wonder if I can refurbish and or reshape it to look more worn and recover it in latex

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  9 років тому

      +Patrick Givens If you dont not have given it a cover/lacquer. you should be able to give it Latex on top.
      To make it look more worn, I recommend using latex and acrylic paint.
      If you want to reshape it, you will have to use precise clean cuts, and then give them latex again. Or rebuild completely from scratch.
      Hope it helps a little.

    Hai Alexander vrm , our goup is called "The Kettles" (yes that is what our group is called, we are sort of like a street gang) our camp looks to be located in the Northern Seal Quarter / Viribus Unitis Quarter, under the Unity banner.
    Are you going your self?

    Great video! :D
    I got one question, kind sir:
    At 4:35 , when you wrap the core with the foam, how do you do this so the foam doesn't create a ridge when you stop wrapping?
    Do you know what I mean?
    I would be very happy if you could answer me this question because I want to make a big old two-handed hamer myswelf ;)

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  9 років тому

      +Thomas Kreutzer Know what you are talking about (or I think so) :) I am simply cutting the extra foam that create the ridge away, It don't become entirely round, but slightly oval. I then fix it when I cut the shaft to look like wood.

    Hi there! Your videos are really helping and I want to thank you for it. I just have a question about the latex part. When I did my sword I had some trouble with the latex. After every layer it appeared some little piece of latex, like crumbs everywhere on the sword. It kinds of freaks me out because my sword was good and now it looks like shit. I know I should have used a better brush for it but is there anything I can do to repair that? Thanks guys

    I want to Mythodea but I've never been such an event. So where can I get my ticket, what do I need and where do I need to look for when preparing

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  10 років тому +1

      You can get the ticket on their webpage(www.live-adventure.de/ConQuest/start.php) or at the entrance to the event.
      If you don't live in Germany, I suggest you buy your ticket for this year at the entrance, since it takes a 3-4 of weeks for the payment to go through.
      I also suggest to go with a friend since it is a lot more fun.
      For preparations:
      1 - have a place to sleep, a medieval/cloth/in-game tent. either bring your own or find a group to stay with. Their are some groups like "The Grand Expedition", that sort of focus on taking care of new players. (if you want to know more I suggest asking on the forum, or the facebook group(facebook.com/groups/mythodea/) or just write to the game organizers hear if they have any suggestions.
      2 - read the rules and try to remember the german call words.
      3 - pack bags (for warm, sunny weather), bring money for fun and food.
      4 - have lots lots of fun and don't be afraid to talk/LARP with people, "LARP mit" as the germans say :)
      Hope it helps a little, ConQuest is the biggest LARP in the world, and the first time I went I was very nervous, but has never regretted it yet (in short it was AWESOME ^_^ )
      Hmm... In retrospect this became a little longer message than I first anticipated, Hope it helps a little, and do hope you to take part in ConQuest at some point :)

  • @LazyLarper
    @LazyLarper  10 років тому +1

    Hai glenn granlof, found this foam at the local LARP store, in my case it was Dragons Lair (dragonslair.eu/da/products/byg-selv-materialer), unfortunately its a Danish store, so if you are not located in Denmark, I suggest looking at stores near you and ask around.
    A lot of times you find these things the most weird places.

    what about using silicone spray, rather then the talcum powder so you don't get that white layer on the weapon. or is that not a good thing to use?

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  9 років тому

      +Manbewbs Silicone spray is just as good as talcum powder.
      The reason I use use talcum powder, is that I prefer to use it first on new weapons, since its easier to see and feel, what is covered of the weapon (plus you don't have to the inhaling it, in the same way). When the white layer from the talcum powder, starts to wear of (or the weapons becomes sticky), I use silicone spay :)
      But its all personal preference.

    I imagine this question has been posed before, but what kind of adhesive do you use? Brand, exact name, all that stuff. I use contact cement, but it doesn't look like it operates the same as your product of choice.
    Also, what brands/ratios do you use for the latex paint?

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  8 років тому

      Dont use a specific Contact Cement or Latex .
      Normally just get the cheapest bucket.
      The glue use to be be something like this one - it's in danish www.danalim.dk/produktkatalog/byggeri/montage-kontaktlim/kontaktlim-281/)
      Be sure to wait till its tapping dry, before you press them together. :)
      What do you normally use ???
      The Latex I buy in single liter containers/bottles, and buy around 5 liters at a time, it's cheaper. However you dont need more than half a liter for a sword.
      Have tried latex from Epic Amoury, Forgotten Dreams, Panduro, MakeMake (danish company) and ROC Danmark ApS.
      They are all good and easy to work with. ROC seams a little stronger in the rubber, but also a little more expensive.

    hey I just discoverd your youtube videos and honestly, thanks you, you really helped me in the construction of my own larp weapons. You are the boss for this!
    I have one question for you:
    Did you make the video thant you mention at: 9:55 (about latex and who to paint the weapon), because it's a part that I never really explore and that I want to try.
    Thanks you a lot!

    • @julesclouet8539
      @julesclouet8539 8 років тому

      and if you didn't can you just write the layers? for example: you start with 3 layers of latex, and then , 3 layers of paint. And for the paint, is it a special paint (a paint that does not crack)? (sorry for my bad english)

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  8 років тому

      +Jules Clouet Hi Jules, iPad you like the Vic's and your English is perfectly understandable :-)
      Have not gotten around to making the video yet. But the best solution if you're using a brush or sponge, is to mix the liquid with acrylic paint. About 2 parts latex, 1 part acrylic paint (but it not so important). The paint is just regular acrylic paint, nothing fancy. I normally buy the cheapest one I can find, but it's important it is acrylic based paint, since oil based paint will rot the latex over time. You can use it without sealing it, just remember to use plenty of silicone spray, but if you do want to seal it you can use isofex(can be a little hard to get hold of, an requires mask and gloves), you can also use regular "glue sealer" used for craft(just make sure it's clear and waterproof, unfortunately it's not as flexible and will possible crack over time. So again use silicone to keep it flexible). I usually give my weapons 2-3layers of a solid colour mixed with latex, like black, before I give them the last 3layers on latex-mix.
      Hope it helps a little, else feel free to ask more :-)

      Aprox. 5mm in diameter. Don't know where you can get them in Sweden, I usually find them in LARP and hobby stores like "Dragons Lair" or "Faraos Cigar", you can also recycle old tent pols, from moden iglo-tents, just remove the metal parts.

    Exactly what type foam are the sheets and the camping mat made from, having trouble sourcing ;)

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  7 років тому

      They are both a type of EVA foam.
      The sheets are bought produced from Epic Armoury and is one of their products, its a little denser than the foam normally can get, but also more expensive.
      The camping mat is a normal foam mat used for camping (not the thin green og blue once's).
      You can also use the foam mats that comes in squares and a put together like a puzzle, the are also EVA foam. A really good quality foam but not that big and usually have a industrial pattern on one side, making it a little harder to work with.

    LarpForge how do you make a latex spear

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  9 років тому

      +Minecraft Spartan That is a harder one. It all depends on if the spear is suppose to be meant stabbing or hitting. What do your game allow? Most places they only allow hitting.

  • @Akamaholic
    @Akamaholic 9 років тому +2

    Is adding the powder to a latex weapon a necessary step and if so, when do you apply it? I don't think you said it in the video.

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  9 років тому

      Akamaholic It is not a absolutely necessary thing, it's used to avoid the latex stick to other weapons (or anything really).
      You ad it when everthing is done and finish drying. Alternatively you could use silicon spray (which is also used on bought latex weapons) or give it a concealer of some sort. "Isoflex Special Prime" is said to be really good as a sealer, it should be used in a lot of LARP weapons in England, however it's some nasty stuff and a little hard to get your hands on.
      Personally I like to start by giving my weapons a good amount of talc powder (2-3 times), since I think it work a lot better in the beginning, then shift to using silicon spray.
      The talc powder primary help so the weapon dont stick to anything, or pick up dirt.
      The silicon do the same thing, but also help's keeping the latex flexible.
      A concealer do the same thing as above, but also add to the strength of the weapon and making it more water resistant. However it is still a good idea to give it a dose of silicone spray, once in a while. Note if you do not get the right concealer then it will start to make cracks with time.
      Hope this helps a little :)

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  8 років тому

      Make sure that there is glue on both sides you glue together and that the glue is tapping dry before you start sticking it together.
      Alternatively you can use some sandpaper on the core and inside of the foam, to make the glue stick better.

      The foam I use is from Epic Armoury, I buy it in the local LARP store called Dragon Lair.
      Its a bit expensive, so if you can get it cheaper do so.
      Sometimes you might be able to order sheets directly from the manufacture or some madres/foam/pillow company.
      What you need is EVA foam (with hard density if possible)

    Fed hammer!
    Jeg er ved at planlægge at bygge noget lignende selv. Dog vil jeg gerne lave en mere klassisk 'metalhammer', hvor der altså ikke ville være mulighed for at lave din sugekop. Hvor 'hårdt' bliver hovedet, hvis man ikke laver en sugekop? Tror du, jeg skal bruge en klump blødt møbelskum til hovedet i stedet?

    • @LazyLarper
      @LazyLarper  10 років тому +1

      Vil sige møbel skum er nok vejen at gå, det kan dog være et problem at putte latex på (da det suger)
      Du kan eventuelt lave en ydre skal af tyndt liggeunderlag eller stof. Eller lave kun noget af hovedet i møbelskum og resten i "normalt" skum.
      Har set nogle rigtig gode hamre hvor den yderste slå flade var af blødt møbelskum og af "normalt skum", da det giver både en god blød slå-flade og en forholdsvis solid hammer.
      Vil dog anbefalde du eksperimenter lidt med møbelskum og latex før du går i gang, da det som sagt suger meget.

    • @LazyLarper

      Excuse my danish - Du kan som regel finde det i butikkerne. Skummen fant jeg i Dragons lair, mener også Faraos Cigar har det. Begge butikker fører det også kerner (det er de mest åbentlyse steder jeg kender, og-men en smule dyret, men nemme at finde). Limen kan findes i hvilket som helst bygge marked (Harald Nyborg, Bauhouse, Silvan osv.)
      Latexen, kan findes forskellige steder, nogen gange kan du finde det i rollespils butikkerne, ellers føre Panduro det eller steder som Læderiet. Det går under navnet Flydende Latex, Natur gummi, Form gummi eller Stoflim.
      Acryl malingen kan du finde stort set i alle hobby butikker, køber som regel mit i Tiger eller Søsterne Grene da det er tættest på eller når det er på tilbud i det lokale supermarked.
      Håber det hjælper lidt i din søgen :)

    holy moly den latex er lækker hvor har du købt den. Fordi den latex jeg har brugt laver bobler og bliver helt ro, og god video det er nogen fede tips jeg ikke engang hadet. Tænkt over subscribe her fra :)

      Takker, glad for du kunne bruge videoen :) Det er ikke så meget typen af latex du bruger, som penslen og tykkelsen af latex laget du kommer på.
      Det er meget vigtigt at du lader latexen tørre mellem hvert lag, og sørg for at "presse" så mange bobler ud du kan, når du pensler laget på. Hvis du putter et tykt lag på så tøre overfladen først, og du kan risikere at få en grumset overflade, og der kan ligge bobler under overfladen. Boblerne kan også være med til at skabe en grumset overflade, så det er meget vigtigt at komme med i alle detailjer.
      Har selv de samme problemer og kan kune sige man bliver bedre med øvelse. Et andet godt tip jeg har lært af André fra "Adventure Lrp" er at rense penslen mellem hvert hvert lag. Så undgår du at der kommer for latex rester på penslen også også kan være med til at skabe en grumset overflade. Du renser penslen ved at dybe den i sæbevand og tørre den i et gammelt viskestykke.
      Det går dog rigtigt svært at undgå den ruoverflade og bobler med en pensel, ellers skal man bruge en airbrush.

      LarpForge we were able to find like one company that does and some art stores sell it in very small amounts but a couple of us were able to put together and by a bulg tub of it har to find cores though but we found some :)

      theyonglord Nice, know sometimes it can be hard to find. Core's are also a pain, sometimes you might be able to use old fiberglass rods from modern tents (just remove the metal parts)

    As a response to BlueBox MTG 's :
    "Do you have to be crafty and/or artsy to do this???"
    No, you do not. But you need to be able to accept that, what you make might fail the first time, and it might not look so good, on the first try's. So it will take some try's before you get it right ^_^
    Practise makes a master. But I think its something everbody can do, if they really want to try.

    Why are Germans no.1 in the world for LARP events ? you would think that the U.S. or maybe U.K. would be the best but no those places are best for military reenactments.
