Great Video Joe... I am a Radio Tech at Los Angeles County so the first thing I noticed was that eventually you may want to do a simple strain relief on the coax going into the shack. I wish that we were neighbors so I could be there to help you get it all up. I'm pretty new to Amateur Astronomy as well so It would be nice to collaborate with you regarding seeing the Greatest Show on earth.
Thanks Anthony. Yes I intend to mount a small shelf near the passthrough to hold the choke Balun and also fix the coax to the side of the shack. I will do this after I run the end fed wire from a tree in the backyard to the chimney on top of the house. It's actually running too near the shack right now. 73
@Thomas Bewick I just found out yesterday. Noticed inactivity and looked on QRZ. How sad. Loved the videos. I was a big astronomy nut too, but sold my scope a few years ago. RIP Joe. 73, Mike k4mto
Thanks for the tour. I didn’t even get dizzy! Haha. I am wondering how to bring in coax from the outside and provide good lightning protection and seal all connections. I am starting with a LTE Cellular antenna that runs 700MHz - 2700MHz. So that run(s) are LMR400 (stiff as a board I tell ya) and I need to get lightning arrestors such as Alpha Delta for those 2 runs. Then in turn I want to prepare for my HAM license and have VHF/UHF/HF antennas brought into the same shack as it were (used to be my office before I retired). So I am looking for best practices that people use. Where do I place lightning arrestors (in an external box or at the base of the3 antenna in a protected box?). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, send me to any articles to read on the subject. Thanks and 73!
Attach the lightning protector to the ground rod. You can use a regular dryer vent to bring cables through a wall stuff the opening with steel wool to keep critters out. You can also buy a MFJ passthrough panel and mount it in a window to bring coax in without drilling holes in wall. I have several videos showing grounding and the passthrough panel. New to all of this. So as a first home base station would you recommend the comet gp9? Are there any good resources for step by step on parts and installation of this type setup?

looks nice looks like you've done it up right and have plenty of room to play and spread out if need be. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Nice Shack Telescope Man! De WV1Q aka Motorman
Thank you.

It would have been nice to be able to lower the counters to desk level to make it easier to operate more comfortably. Great looking shack nevertheless
very cool, thanks
So you didn't ground the antenna?
So, what happened to that big tower and beam you had at the other house?
Sold them. Thinking about a roof tower at the new location. 73
@@JoeLalumia Just watching that video now :-)
