Absolutely! Before this scene I felt sorry for Tommy but after Alfie's speech I thought "serves you right doesn't it?"
And 11:04 - and that "sweetie" was improvised by Tom Hardy!
I wonder if they knew when filming that they were making one of the greatest gangster scenes of all time! Please tell me I'm wrong!
On the one hand, I think if you're a criminal you should live by a code of ethics of not harming women or children of the gangster you have a beef with! But also, you cannot plead innocent when your child is taken or hurt when you've hurt so many other people's children too!
I think a great bit is when Alfie admitted that he didn't know that they kidnapped his son because if he did know I reckon he would not have betrayed Tommy!
Alfie is probably the luckiest gangster I've ever seen in cinematic history! Betrayed several times and continued living... what he said to Tommy here though definitely saved him...
People say Tom Hardy always uses the Bain voice...he doesn't use it in Dunkirk, he doesn't use it in Lawless, he doesn't use it in Mad Max, he doesn't use it in The Drop...
Of this current generation HE and LEONARDO DICAPRIO are the greatest actors today and Stephen Graham is a VERY CLOSE THIRD!
PS. If you don't know who Stephen Graham is then in my best manners...sort yourself out and study this man's work! He's just as talented as Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and arguably DiCaprio too!

This is quite honestly one of the best episodes of television I have ever seen. Certainly the best episode of the show, imo. Every minute of it from start to finish is just an absolute masterclass of screenwriting and acting. At least two of my favourite scenes in the whole series are in this one episode. Cillian and Tom give me goosebumps every single time I watch this.
I also think that Paul Anderson and the late, great Helen McCrory are particularly phenomenal here as well.

Tommy knew about the arrests because of his connections in the police. The police chief likely has ties to the political class of Britain. Keep in mind the people Tommy betrayed and was working for are in those same political class - they’d have access to a lot of information about the activities of Tommy and his family especially since the jobs they were doing were for politicians.

20:30 - this is the moment when Tommy stopped trying to become legitimate because he realised that they would never be accepted because of where they're from even if they were 100% legitimate...
And in the following seasons he starts bargaining with the higher ups to gain more power for his family...(shown in season 4 when he bargains for an OBE and the chance to run for being a politician...)
"You don't get what you deserve...you get what you take..." One of a kind show! ❤

A deal is to be made by Tommy and in the offing with people higher than the local Police and the Odd Fellows to have the family arrested and thus protected in custody whist his plan(which you are yet to see unfold) is put into motion in episode 1 of the next season..a brave move that will put him at odds with the family and set the tone of mistrust and what family bond means that runs through the whole next season! The whole next three seasons just get richer and more polished as they go so you're in for a ride..enjoy

Hi guys, enjoyed watching your reaction. This episode is definitely a roller-coaster and there’s a lot to take in so it’s easy to miss stuff. Lacey was on the right track but just to clear things up, the answers to some of your questions are in the episode. If you watch it back, you’ll see that:
    1) It was definitely Alfie who told about the tunnel and the Fabergé egg. He actually admits to it in the scene where Tommy confronts him and he says, ‘God himself told him that there were things in the room that he should have’. The only thing he didn’t know about is that they would use Tommy’s son as leverage to control him. This confirmed when Tommy says ‘I know, I saw’ because he knew from Alfie’s awkward reaction when he asked him, that he clearly didn’t know they were planning on using Charlie.

    2) Tommy is not to blame for his family being arrested. In the scene with his family at the end, he says that Moss (one of the policemen the Peaky Blinders have on their pay roll), called Tommy the night before to tell him that Section D (aka the Odd Fellows) were going to have his family arrested and charged. It's also worth remembering that the reason Tommy was doing their dirty work in the first place is so they’re not directly connected to any crimes and someone else can be made to take the fall for any consequences.
In order to save his family, Tommy explains he did a deal with people more powerful than section D to keep them safe. The family get arrested because Section D controls the police, judges and local magistrates etc, but Tommy has gone above them to a higher level of power to do a deal. The fallout of which will play out in the next season.
Sorry for the essay. Just thought it might help to clear things up a bit. Keep it up with the reactions, Love the show!
