    If I were to ever adopt, I would not choose a baby. I would choose an "older" child who had lived their life as an orphan because they aren't given as much of a chance since most people want babies for some reason

      BodyLove101 I've done a shit ton of research into adoption because I'm adopted and there are consequences to every adoption I was 10 months when adopted and I suffer from a lot of mental issues such as PTSD and anxiety because of the trauma. I could only imagine being adopted as a 15 year old!and being adopted older comes with a much higher risk of RAD but that could occur in any child!

    Trying to talk my husband into adopting a baby girl from China. We have been having fertility issues for 7 years, so adoption may be our only choice for having a baby. He's for adoption (his 2 younger siblings are adopted), but he was basically raised with the mindset that there are plenty of kids here who need homes, so why adopt overseas? I personally want to adopt at least once overseas and once from here in the USA. Wish me luck y'all!!

      You should do it. I'm 13 years old, never had the chance to meet my real parents. Children should be given the chance at a better life. Like me, although watching all these videos makes me sad, I'll never know my real parents, it's just sick and twisted reality.
      I was a foundling, and adopted at age 10 months.
      People give you a second chance, so you should give someone else that chance too. Good Luck on your endeavor.

      It's sad, but if you think about it they are actually giving these kids and opportunity to live and sometimes even if there wasn't tjis policy, some families would still find it very hard to maintain all the family. I tell you this as an adopted chinese girl in Spain, this is the best thing it could've happened to me.

      NEVER meet your biological family! I’m from China and I know what is the case. Thousands of healthy babies were abandoned and later be adopted, 99% of them are girls. Why? Because the parents prefer boys and they don’t want girls. That’s the simple as it is. You are abandoned not because your biological parents are unable to raise you, but because they DON’T want you as a girl. Every Chinese knows this culture. I know this is heartbreaking to know but just reminding you, do NOT meet them. They don’t love you. What’s worse, some of them may ask money from you in name of parents once they know you are leading a good life.

      Please explain to me why would you want to even just meet, much less have a relationship with people that literally considered you garbage to be dumped by the side of the road?
      Why would you want to have anything to do with them?
      So you can bound over your shared love of torturing and murdering and eating cats and dogs vs your Western family that thinks torturing, murdering and eating their pets is an unforgivable crime?

    sorry but i've gotta say the comment section is not looking all that great. It seems that a lot of people see the Chinese society as "evil". there are, of course, "evil" people in China. I mean, it is huge. But I don't think they are really below that of other countries by such a huge margin, which is why I kinda don't like how a lot of media is trying to portray it that way. I mean, I could say "American society is evil" just cause some girl told that I wasn't American since I was asian. There are screwed up people everywhere. although i did kinda argue with the girl for like 30 min and then when her older sister backed her up, argued for 30 more min...

    • @chloemakesvideos3889

      Elena C Exactly. I hate it when people from the USA thinks that they are living in so-called "freedom" and "liberty", and then they start to form their own silly ignorant conclusion that "China is evil, trying to consume the whole world", "Communism is bad (while they ignore that fact that capitalism is not completely good either)". All those superficial views make me feel bad.
      I mean, it isn't entirely parents' fault to place those girls in orphanage. Maybe those parents themselves cannot even provide a secured and bright future for their daughters. Some are even too poor to feed themselves, not to mention children. Who doesn't want to keep their children when they can? The mothers won't want to have nothing return while carrying their girls for ten months.

      Хлоя Чанокова I am an American, and I still have to admit that you're right. Most Americans never go out of their way to experience, or educate themselves on other cultures, which is truly a shame. To truly understand your own country, you need to have some perspective, and the only way to do that is to understand other countries and cultures. Nobody benefits from cultural ignorance. I wish people would go out, and learn about the world.

      I would say that the adoptive parents and biological parents both love the children equally, y’know, since a majority of orphans came to be, as, well, orphans because of the one-child policy in China. However, I would think that the biological parents have more emotional baggage because they had to give their child up because of the laws in their country.

    • @torielin7646
      @torielin7646 6 років тому +6

      It's such a stereotype that kids in orphanages had parents that didn't love them. First of all, sometimes their parents died. Second of all, some parents knew they couldn't properly provide and care for their child, so they gave their kid up for adoption so that they would have the opportunity for a good life. Now THAT'S true love...being willing to give up someone you love for their own sake.

    • @torielin7646
      @torielin7646 6 років тому

      Also did you not hear that news story recently? These two moms had adopted SIX kids and accidentally drove off a cliff and died. It's been all over the news. Apparently, those moms were DRUG ADDICTS and abusive...but they had enough money and time to adopt six kids. So just cuz you are able to adopt kids doesn't mean you necessarily love them more or are better parents

    • @fvnt0miix953

      Actually no, it's also to make sure that the parents are financially ok to have a kid. You don't want the parents to end up sending that kid to the orphanage again cus they don't have money or lost interest in the baby. They make you pay a high amount so you can cherish the kid. Plus they are basically selling you a person, how much you think a person costs?

    • @glazierEd

    I don't want them to say 'abandoned' because most are not entirely abandoned. Giving being a parent to these children is the most hardest things they would have to do and these circumstances forces them into doing this. I hope the biological parents have one sense of relief that their child was adopted from an orphanage because that's when they know that they're well looked after by people who would love them; only that relief is what they can feel.

    Many parents were forced to give up their kids, especially girls during the family plan time. It was heartbroken experience for many families. If you didn't live during the time of having only one child, you never know how hard it was for many parents to make this decision. Also, some kids were missing kids. They were sent to the daycare for adoption, but their parents might look for them all the time.

    I am a "lost girl". China does not throw away their kids( girls). The reason why more girls are abandoned than boys is because of culture and tradition. You have to think of all the possibilities on why a couple has to give up their child. You think chinese people look at their baby and say oh let's throw it away? - No, it could be because of finances or family influences. This does not happen in just China it happens all over the world. It may be "sad and disgusting" but before you comment research what you are talking about.

      +Maizie N I think the real problem here is that China and other 3rd world countries (particularly brown cultures) are still behind the times. They never went to school and never learned any manners. They have absolutely no morals, boundaries or filters. They think a baby's gender is something you can choose like a damn slurpee menu!
      You know there really is a problem when they treat humans WORST over there than we treat ANIMALS in this 1st world countries, right?
      It seems like only civilized, 1st world countries (like where I live) are accepting of both genders and don't judge or discriminate. Probably because they know that having a baby is NOT like ordering from a damn slurpee menu!

    I have a Chinese friend who once told me that it was against Chinese children being adopted by white, American families because they would "lose their culture". I replied by asking her if she really thought these children would have better lives as wards of the state rather than in a loving home, to which she replied reluctantly "Well maybe not."
    China's culture is so vast, old, and deep that in no way will it ever miss a few of its children who were unwanted anyway. Chinese adoptions work so well for all involved that I'm sure some government bureaucrat or other will soon end them!

    • @RainbowponyT
      @RainbowponyT 9 років тому +20

      GuardianDemonX I'm sorry to hear you say that. Yes, China has some negative traditions, but not all chinese agree with that. I personally have never heard of the idea that chinese children should not be adopted by American families, and I have been in many chinese communities. Besides that, it's not as if other countries have perfect cultures. America, for example, has had a history of enslaving people with darker skin and stealing the land of Native Americans. I have nothing against America. But their past is not so perfect either. So please be more considerate of judging other cultures.

      In China, one child policy is supported by people, because when you are one of those 1.4billion people, live, travel,compete with such crowd, you will support it. You are right, it is not a good move in human rights, but China and her people have no choice. This policy can decrease poverty, save basic live supplies, and help government make fair education and health care. By the way, no one can judge a culture, no one can conquer this world with his value, no one should disrespect to another culture.

      Emma Gadbois Good thinking! I'm really in the phase of pitching my story idea to my instructors, so I can't think of all the questions I'm going to throw at you at once. But I'm really curious about how you think of the practice and cancellation of the policy and how you feel about your history. I'm looking to create a documentary on the topic so it would be great if I can meet you in person so where are you?

    I never heard the lady say why boy babies are preferred in China. It is because in Chinese culture only boys are expected to take on the financial burden of taking care of the parents in their old age; girls are not. This has a very numbing effect to the idea of love as parents look at children in terms of financial practicality similar to the way farm animals are viewed. I find that heart breaking

  • @Faythe98
    @Faythe98 6 років тому

    This breaks my heart. I can’t imagine how horrible it is to have to give up your child and hope they have a better life. Especially if you didn’t want to give your kid away. I’m so glad these families got to raise these kids.

    I’m not feminist, but abandoning girls because of tradition is outrageous. Babies all deserve to be treated equally. Disabled, defected, even if they are this way, they are a gift. Millions of women cannot have babies. Respect to the families who adopted them! ^^

    This documentary is at least 10 years old and they tell not even half of the real story, actually, there is everything wrong, compared with the circumstances nowadays in China. Children get adopted there like everywhere else in the world. Anyway, in my opinon it is really the lowerst level of a documentary, but what makes me really suprised is, that most of the comments agree with the host, means they have no clue about the whole and the real story. Shame on National Geographic and i would suggest to inform yourself independently.

      Whats the real story? That China doesn't have a one child policy? That Chinese family don't abandon baby girls simply because of their gender?
      I'd suggest you study English more, you comment is impossible to read or follow and I have no idea what point you're trying to make.

    • @Polyboy70
      @Polyboy70 10 років тому +16

      Better to speak english in a bad way, than complaining about language skills of others. English is not my native language, so whats your point Mr. USA. How many language have you learned? Anyway, i hoped the readers would do their own research and not demand answers, but I guess i expected too much. Just a few facts:
      1. The one child policy is officially eliminated since about 2 years ago.
      2. It was always possible to have more than one child, my former boss in China had actually two, but as far as i know, you must pay then some kind of fee.
      3. In very former times and in the countryside it could happen that boys have been prefered, because men could help better at farming. That happened in all cultures all over the world.
      4. Why is a girl even more famous in China than a boy?
      4.1 ... it is common, that the bride gets at her marriage at least a reasonable amount of money, a new car and an apartment.
      4.2 The groom pays all costs of the marriage.
      4.3 The groom has to pay as well a higher amount of money to his parents in law as a present and thank you for growing up his wife.
      5. Who said these children are abandoned by their parents, because the parents did not want to have a girl? It was just the host, so that must be true. These children were for sure orphans, because of tragical reasons, which happen all over the world.
      So, this film is just simply propaganda and has 99% nothing to do with the reality. Making out of the fate of these orphans a political massage is really the lowest level ever.
      Do not believe what others tell you. Thats why I hoped you inform yourself.

      The Dee Honestly, not every Chinese family abandon baby girls or find girls inferior to boys. It makes me sad seeing how this video greatly generalizes China.This video didn't have to speak so poorly of the traditions of China as if they were a low moral country.

    Hello Please open your eyes and pay attention to these babies. They are very fearful and traumatized by being suddenly put into the arms of strangers. Yes, the parents are very happy - but look at the faces of these little girls. Adoption is not about the happy parents; it is about the child. Really Lisa LIng - did you not see the fear on the faces of these little girls - are you blind...... Duh.....

      Actually, young couples want to have another child, but they can't afford another because of education costs. So, they just stick with one. One of my cousins and her husband grew up in China as only children, and so logically, they could have two kids. But instead, they just had one daughter and decided that one was enough.

    • @ariac201

      Katanda Richard S They could have handled the situation in other ways way before without putting a law that has increased drastically infanticide (that is dumping of babies in trash cans...basically killing them) and this phenomenon of overcrowded orphanages especially with girls.
      If a country like china would have just spent some more effort spreading media awareness about limiting births due to socio-economic reason, and maybe a campaign to make condoms much more available to the public, they could have avoided all this.
      Germany, one of the wealthiest countries in europe, has the lowest birth rate in the world, and generally europe as well, all thanks to education and awareness about birth control and readily available contraceptives.

      It's because boys are traditionally supposed to have the role of looking after their parents in old age... so if they had a girl and not a boy, they feel they will be worse off in the future. They views boys as a future investment, I guess, and because they can only have one child they want them to be a boy.

    People must adopt children. Some kids will grow up and not understand. They will think that no one loves them. You have to show kids you care, like me, I will never know the suffering that kids go through, the horrors of foster care and orphanges, I was adopted. People give you a second chance, so you should give others that chance too.
    You will not regret doing it, I promise.
