Today I’m taking the luxurious Eastern & Oriental Express sleeper train across two countries from Singapore to Langkawi in Malaysia. Join me and Dad as we explore this stunning train. From the well appointed ensuite compartments, to the two restaurants onboard and the highlight of course… the outdoor observation car.
I’ll also explain this trains fascinating past, as it’s not always been a sleeper train on this continent! This trip of course did not come cheap, however due to an unforeseen delay on the VSOE last summer, I was able to enjoy this trip for a lot less than you’d think! (I explain fully in the video).

I remember my love for train travel beginning on this train in New Zealand as a five year old traveling with my grand mother between Napier and Hastings. The noise of the tracks, the cups of strong tea served in heavy white cups, trees rushing by and the best memory I have of my grandmother to this day. I have never been on a train again in my life but I live vicariously through all of your wonderful journeys and I thank you for that :) Trek on with joy to you and your family, from your fan in New Zealand.

Yea, and a tiny bed, in Malaysia. I get as luxury goes up, the price goes up disproportionally. That’s fine, but this is just a bad deal. In Malaysia, you could hire a limousine, private driver, take the same route, however, dine in the finest restaurants along the way, and stay at the best rooms in the finest hotels, and pay less. I hope that price is just a marketing price, and it’s always on sale or something, because why pay it for a far worse experience then you can get elsewhere?

Dont worry. You wont ever afford and luxury trains, cruises or planes in your life so no need to twist your knickers over it.

Grew up in Malaysia as a child in the 90’s and we often did the sleeper train from Singapore through to Malaysia. Such a lovely way to see the countryside and wonderful memories were made. Would love to do this trip on this train and travel through stations I did many years ago.
Will, your videography and editing are second to none! I'm mystified how you keep such a steady camera shot on a train that is moving!!! The cabins on the train look fantastic! The dining looked like tight quarters at the table although the food looks delicious! Loved the video!

Set the camera down on the train station platform to film himself walking onto the train from behind. Go back out to get the camera & now place the camera inside the train & cut to the shot from in front of him walking onto the train. Very time consuming & takes a lot of patience!
@@FrankThe77Tank I tried to duplicate his video shots like he does sampling Champagne on my last cruise video. It was not easy at all! It still was no where near the quality of what Will does!
What I want to know is how he got the shot of himself at the back of the observatory 12:42. It's the last coach of the train so where the heck was the camera? 😅

Yes. Most others will tell you that management will not be responsible for any incident/ delays/ technical or other issues arising from your trip... You are assumed to be willing to accept the risk and other T&C that comes with your ticket. Just suck it up and move on. I'm truly impressed Belmont gave options for a full refund or 130% credit for your next trip. Amazing...

Fantastic Will, thanks for doing this. I took the EnO about 10yrs ago, and as you allude to a few things have changed. Back in the day the trip started at Raffles with all the formalities handled there then a bus up to Woodlands. We were also able to cross the Thai border and get to Bangkok via a stop in Kanchanaburi. Lucky you and Dad getting to Langkawi though, i one of my personal favourites. Great filming aa ever and thanks for the trip down memory lane (train track!)
Thanks for watching David - I feel they really miss out not starting the whole experience at Raffles. Hopefully in the future too, they'll resume service all the way to Bangkok. Glad it brought back some memories, it's a special trip
