- A Florida jury recommended the Parkland School shooter, Nikolas Cruz, receive life without parole for the massacre. Families of the 17 victims of the 2018 Parkland School massacre were outraged by the decision to spare Cruz from the death penalty. He appeared emotionless as the judge read the sentencing verdicts. As she continued naming each of the victims, he seemed to get fidgety. The families comforted each other while several were in utter disbelief, shaking their heads in disgust.
Inmates don’t take very kindly to people who hurt and or kill children.

The fact that it took over 4 years is outrageous. My heart goes out to all the families affected.
It took that long because of how tragic and disgusting his crime. It takes a lot of time to get the right people in the right jobs and all the families statements and everything. And obviously he was gonna get at minimum, life in prison. It’s just a matter if he’s getting death penalty or not.

It is disgusting how this man gets to exsist. A life sentence was all to merciful. He still gets to eat and sleep, while he stripped 17 innocent lives from their families. This is far beyond unfair and just down right horrific.
Whenever tragedy is brought forward, especially when it’s committed by someone doing it intentionally and held at this scale of carnage, there is never going to be a fair outcome. There is no punishment he could receive that equals out the pain and suffering he inflicted on his victims and their families. If it was the death sentence, it’s usually quick and painless as compared to what he did to his victims. Life sentence, he lives to the end of his days away from the public in a concrete cell. In the end they all look for a closure they can’t have because it’s impossible to acquire.
They all want a punishment to make it feel as though it’s an alternative to brining their loved one back to life.

Who gives anyone the right to declare that someone should die? Would killing him not be sinking to his level? By giving him a life sentence, we're separating him from society and he will have to live with the reality of his crimes for potentially 60+ more years. Death sentences almost always result in countless appeals, which takes up time that anyone involved in the process (judge, lawyers, etc.) could be using toward helping actually innocent people or getting other monsters off the streets. This can take DECADES and also costs a LOT more money. Many people have died of natural causes on death row. I don't know about you, but I would much prefer the quick release of death rather than decades in a concrete box. Let him suffer the consequences of his actions.

I used to think that life in prison is worse than the death penalty, but then someone reminded me that they can still receive visits from family and friends. I couldn’t imagine someone like that having the slightest sense of happiness or joy, even if it is for a short period of time

The parents reactions broke my heart.

I don't know much about law, but could some of this be due to the amount of victims, eye witness accounts and various other information they had to gather? It was a massive case, so many lives lost and they really delved into his childhood- I imagine that takes time?

As someone who has been largely undecided when it comes to Capital Punishment, I could not think of a scenario more appropriate for its defense. I worry what this message sends to future would-be mass shooters.

Not only that, but getting executed takes many years on death row. Likely due to the appeal process.

He wasn't sentenced yet, that was the RECOMMENDED SENTENCE by the jury. He'll be officially sentenced in November.

This has been one of the most interesting cases I have ever seen and I’m glad he’s finally getting a sentence but it’s not long enough if he wasn’t going to get the death penalty. He 100% should have gotten the death penalty. It’s absolutely horrific that they decided he would only get a life sentence, I hope the prisoners in there hurt him.
They won't lay a finger on him. The warden will probably separate him from the general population. Given his personality, you can probably expect more prison interviews about how the "Call of Duty overlords" told him to do it and his denunciation of marijuana use and violent video games. He's a mass murdering psychopath, but he has made some valid points.
Killing him would have been a blessing for him. That’s what we humans don’t seem to understand! Living on earth is hell. So who wants to get killed or kill somebody? That is a guaranteed ticket to get forced to come back, just in a different illusion. So I just hope those kids didn’t accumulated to much Karma for themselves, because if they bullied him, they will feel that pain next time around. As for him, he can suffer it out. So if we humans like it or not, the law of attraction never lies and the mopping on the school grounds from Alpha’s via their recruited sheep, wannabes in Democratic countries is out of this world! And it gets worse from one generation to the next.
They should send people like him, who commit mass murders without remorse, to be used as scientific data for torture experiments. They should be implemented a new test each week that studies to see how long the human body and mind can last during these rigorous experiments.
Like I have written before, a life sentence is worse, because he will be around others who hate anyone who hurts women and children. Everyone has family. He will be at the bottom of the heap. If he were to get death penalty, he'd be in solidarity confinement. In others separate from the general population. It could be years before he would be executed.
The jury completely failed. All of the circumstances and “aggravating factors” required to sentence someone to death were all met for each of the 17 murders. A failure of justice
I feel for the parents as this obviously isn't what they wanted. But... Depending on how you look at it, this was one of the biggest justices they could have been given for their children. Why? Because Nicholas has expressed his will to be given the death penalty, he doesn't want to live his life out in prison. Why give that monster his desire to die when he can be given the opposite and be tortured with living his life in a cell for however long he has left on this earth and I hope those prisoners get a hold of him

Even if he had gotten a death sentence there would probably be an appeals process that would drag on for decades.
That’s a good point. Since he’s life without parole at least his case will never be heard again and hopefully the families can stop re-living trauma and focus more on grieving and healing.

Well I’m not judging you - but if you’ve done these things then you’re a liar, thief, blasphemer, adulterer-at-heart and rebel, so you're not good enough to go to heaven; that’s how seriously God takes sin. He is Holy (perfectly good/righteous and separate from sin) which means that He is perfect in justice; that means that just like a just judge does sentence criminals to pay for the wrong they caused, do does God sentence the payment of all sins - and if He were to judge you by the moral law (we’ve already looked at 4 commandments) would you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? The answer is hell - the wrath of God upon you for your sin

But fortunately, God’s will is not that you perish. He wants all men everywhere to be saved. So do you know what He did for us guilty sinners? In self-giving mercy, He sent His Son Jesus Christ (and here is why). He lived the perfect life that we should have lived - tempted at all points and yet He NEVER sinned. Through His life, being in very nature God, He revealed God to men; but we in our hatred condemned Him to death. On that cross as Jesus suffered, He took on the sin of the world and was judged in our place; receiving God’s wrath. You and I broke God’s law, but Jesus paid the fine. God can justly forgive us.
On that cross He died, then He was buried, but 3 days later He was raised from the dead - conquering death and Hell and ushering in The Kingdom of God. He then ascended to the right hand of God the Father (where He came from) now Lord of the living and the dead. God has fixed a date when He will judge the world in righteousness. What you need to do is repent (In humility, acknowledge your sin before God and turn to a relationship with Him) and trust ALONE in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross; and God will grant you the gift of the Holy Spirit. Then be baptised. Jesus' perfect righteousness will be accredited to you and you can stand in a relationship with the God of the Universe, a Father. If you repent and believe the gospel.

Technically what they did was a good thing in my opinion. If they gave him the death penalty, he wouldn’t suffer for long. By putting him in prison, he’ll suffer for the rest of his life, he’ll get what’s coming to him from other prisoners. In my opinion, life in prison is a much better punishment than death.
Let him live with this guilt for the rest of his life because killing him wont make anything better we just be giving him the same hate he did to others.

I don't think anyone deserves death sentence. I feel for the families, but I know that dying won't bring them justice or closure. Seeing him rot away will not bring them justice. Two wrong don't make a right, two killing don't make a right.
I think they made the right choice. He'll be reminded everyday of what he had done and have nightmares of that day. He'll suffer alone without anyone to lean onto.

Being in jail for ever is a lot worse than the death penalty
Nikolas Cruz doesn’t want the death penalty and he would rather be released from prison and jail. Nikolas Cruz got a lot of wonderful things he would want to accomplish in the future so he must need be released from incarceration in order to spend time with his family & friends. Prolonging incarceration is most likely an awful idea.
I don't think he should be released because he's still a menace to society, but they could at least let people visit him. Angie, for example

I can't imagine having so much hatred and bitterness in your heart. I honestly don't think this guy dying would help those parents (from what I heard it doesn't). I hope and pray that they heal from this eventually. So heartbreaking. This man doesn't deserve to stay in their hearts for any longer
Justice for everyone looks different. The fact that he was allowed to have a fair trial is merciful, imo. He should have received death. This is not an ambiguous case. And the parents have every right to be angry, even if it looks like bitterness to some.

When your families myrderer dies in prison the families get relief that it's finally over but they will still live with the pain of what happened. Take the jeffrey dahmer case for example when he was murdered in prison the victims families were relieved it was finally over

A life long vacation with no responsibility. Gets 3 meals a day. Can get a TV, a smartphone and all kinds of other things that a prisoner shouldnt have. Prison is meant to be the worst place on earth for a reason but its like free hotel now.

I believe being able to spend the rest of his life in prison regretting and remembering the destruction he caused is a fate worse than death. He will remember what he did for the rest of his life. He didn't get the easy way out which was the death penalty.

My condolences to the family. I know they wanted the death penalty but him being so young and sitting in prison for so many years will be a slow painful death. He will definitely get what he deserves in prison!

If it were up to me, i'd MUCH rather die, than to have to be in prison and rot forever. But then again, it is also understandable that it would also probably feel better when you know that your childs killer is still on the planet and living.
It’s a case by case basis on whether these criminals deserve life or the death penalty. A lot of these violent sociopaths see death as the easy way out and often kill themselves less than a month into their sentence. However, based on Cruz’s attempts to protect himself both right after the shooting and in his interrogation, I think the death penalty is his worst nightmare. He wants to live, and it’s absolutely pathetic that he was shown mercy when he showed none that fateful day.
But he's still human (nikolas cruz), I remembered that quote from Ted bundy where he says a long phrase at the ending saying "but I'm still human"

@@patbateman6729 Get over yourself. Being a former juror myself, people get chosen for jury duty at random and sent letters for service. Heck, I didn't want to go, but it's mandatory or else I'll be in court held in contempt for not showing up. Unless you have some exceptions, you're going. So cease acting like they don't deserve to be the jurors over one decision you wanted. Maybe you'll get your chance when it's your turn.
@@leon4000 The prosecution can reject any jurors that has a problem wth the death penalty during selection, that's not saying they wouldn't lie just to get selected to be on a high profile case, like this? Being a former juror myself and like you, not wanting to be chosen, others want to be a juror. So get over yourself and have some empathy for all the victims and their families and friends. @@patbateman6729 Oh that process. The part where the attorneys can eliminate anyone of their choice that's not willing to be fair and impartial. They ask questions and based on the jurors' words and the attorneys judgement, the jurors can be excused from further service. Well let's keep in mind that we aren't in court at that position and the case is over but a day or two ago. So calm yourself and let's end this conversation. You just used your anger to try to get your way. It's over man. Find something to do to let this anger of yours pass. The actual sentencing starts at November, what's been said before is only recommended.
By the way, if you anticipate Cruz, you'd know that death is what HE WANTS. An excuse to not live anymore with the crimes he cause and whatever was going was going through in his mind that caused him to take as anger out on the world.

In a country that has the death penalty, jurors must be comfortable with condeming them to death. If you have a personal problem with the death penalty then you should not be able to be the juror in such cases
Having the parents relive their trauma through this trial, each remembering how their kids were taken from them that day, just to see the man who did it get spared death? How is that fair? How is that justice? The system failed them.

The death penalty is the easy way out plus, almost every country in Europe has abolished the death penalty. I wonder why America can't take notes. I still do feel sorry for the victims' families despite my disagreement with them. No one should have to worry about dying in school.
So, taxpayers have to feed him 3 meals a day.

Agree with you, notably because he really was born to a horrible family and was brain damaged from FAS. He should have been put in some kind of special needs school; he was never fit for a public high school.
