Demo of the QUASIMIDI CARUSO digital synthesizer module from 1993 - The Most Impressive Soundscapes.
All sounds come from a single QM Caruso played live without additional effects and without any treatment - right from the stereo outputs. The general sound has something magical to it imho. All sounds are factory presets, which I chosed as "the best" of this instrument. Of course there are also a lot of accordion and organ sounds (the organs are not bad either, but not exactly my cup of tea). Some factory presets (mostly pads) are surprisingly good and they don't hide the fact that the Caruso has limited D/A converters, which makes the sound "lo-fi" in general. It's similar to the QM Technox, which came later.
The Quasimidi Caruso is not very common outside Germany, very cheap nowadays, it's a good choice if you like lofi digital synth sounds from the early nineties!
Second Demo of CARUSO all over the world... very rare device ... Thnx!!!
Never heard of this one. Interesting
Wow. Quasimidi. Haven't heard that name in a while. Back in the nineties I had a Quasar for a while - borrowed from a friend. Couldn't afford to buy one then. T'was fairly nice as far as I remember.
Enchanting! In the hands of a true professional everything sound marvelous, it seems!
This unit and the demonstration are wonderful. Quasimidi Quasar it's another beast.
Dope unsolved mysteries soundtracks vibes
Like a few others here, could never afford the Quasimidi gear - but never heard of the Caruso. Sounds great! Thanks for the video :)
Mindblowing sound!
So glad you come back to do videos!!!!
You never see these - not sure how many they made really. QM was quite a quirky maker of modules, and I’ve owned a few of them over the years. Here in the states it’s rare enough to see them. Compared to some other modules of the time (Roland JD, E-Mu, etc) this sounds very lo-fi and aliases all over the place due to limited sampling rate and not filtering out the higher end stuff. Fun to play with, but I’d choose other alternatives today - Maybe still useful as an effect sound, but not front and center as in this demo.
Perfect soundtrack machine for fantasy movies, or Hallmark movie of the week, very nice.
Der ist doch bestimmt superselten mittlerweile 😃aber geiles Demo!
Well, it’s got “personality,” that’s for sure!
just wow
Wow, thought I heard of every synth before including the quasimidi stuff, guess not!
I know the brand Quadimidi, from the nineties. Models like the technox, raven, sirius... But never heard or read about the caruso!!. Curious!!. Sounds good!!👍🏻
A rompler, mostly of sentimental value to anyone who had one in the past. Current prices are 300 Euros which seems very expensive for what it is.
Not only a rompler - like Quasar it also engages FM synthesis, which you can hear on some sounds, at 2:23 for example.
The first patch was used in the Steve Perry's song "Oh Sherry".
I don't think it was the Caruso...
Nice synth. I find it similar to the Yamaha sy35
I would have guessed Kawai K4. Similar sound.
I think the same, heard a lot of demos and for me they sound very similar.
Yeah, both are the Kings of Lofi
@@AnalogAudio1 But Kawai K4 has some 16 bit sounds and some 8 bit sounds as far as I know.
@@chenguefer156 it has 16 bit samples, but the sampling frequecy seems to be low, also the D-A converters have their own character... so that it sounds lofi.
7:28 help me Modern Talking maybe Bad Boys Blue
Somebody listened very carefully :-) It's "Bells of Paris"
It sounds they used some kind of lowpass filter on the output, I wished it could be removed if so.That is what making it sound bad in my ears, but no filter and a bit of aliasing thru a reverb = magic.
What's going on here under the hood? Sounds like FM with some other stuff
Yes, sample playback, and FM
"very cheap nowadays"...Reverb doesn't agree with you 🤣
In Germany you see them for about 100 Euros.... I sold mine for 135 Euros, it took forever, nobody wanted to pay more. Apart of that, Reverb prices are not really realistic.
@@AnalogAudio1 It would be great to hear a demo of Quasimidi Quasar from you.
@@chenguefer156 I am not very impressed with the Quasar, the Technox and Caruso expanders have more character imho,
