It’s been said before, but what happened with the Curtain Call is a huge butterfly effect in wrestling. If the Curtain Call never happened, we wouldn’t have the iconic Austin 3:16 promo and seeds being planted for the Attitude Era.
Wrong. The story is never told correctly....no one actually got heat in the back. Hunter was never a lock to win king of the ring either. It's all b.s. to make people think some other narrative.
Hunter was “punished” for roughly five months, and Stone Cold was still getting mid-card matches after his iconic promo. WWE likes to push the narrative that Stone Cold skyrocketed directly after that promo.
@@AnthonyMackONE as someone who was actually around to watch that era unfold, it did start Austin's rise. He was having mid card matches but his popularity was very clear. It's actually a shame that things went down the way it did with Muhammad Hassan because I felt like the character could have had legs And I feel even worse for the guy performing cast the character because he was a pretty talented Italian wrestler he just needed to hone his craft and they never really let him get off the ground. They could have taken out the terroristic angle and just possibly included that on another show or something more private.
WWE would never use the Over the Edge name again after 1999. They did however start to use the similar Over the Limit name in 2010, which also took place on May 23rd and featured Edge on the promotional poster. Thankfully it didn't happen in Kansas City, but still pretty morbid when you think about it.
They wouldn't run Kemper for 3 years after the tragedy. The next WWE show at Kemper was Backlash in 2002. WCW did run Kemper about a year after Owen's passing.

if Eddie were still alive i think he would have moved to a role like producer or NXT coach and only getting in the ring part time to help put someone over
I saw a what if scenario once written by bleacher report I think They said Benoit probably would have been a 2x ecw champ. And wrestle against one of his fellow Canadians like Edge or Jerocho
Say what you want about Jeff Jarret and Debra, I felt so bad for them during that pre-match Promo.. both visibly shook and barely able to keep it together and then having to be the first ones to the ring right after the tragedy .. I feel for them both
They had no confirmation from the authorities, but several of the wrestlers knew enough to have had the tribute put at least on hold. Regal, Chavo and others in WWE had received very unsettling messages from Benoit, making it quite clear that something deeper was happening. Regal even refused to speak about Benoit on a personal level for the tribute show, just saying he was a great wrestler. They knew it wasn't just an accident. They really should have postponed a full on tribute, based on what they aready knew.
It's hard to know for sure because the episode has been Thanos Snapped from existence, but I remember the next day thinking some of the wrestlers giving speeches were weary, as if they suspected what happened. Which is not only likely, those close to him would have to be idiots not to realize he was nuts at that point. He had *SEVERE* CTE and wasn't playing with a full deck for a while leading up to it. It's been almost 20 years so it's hard to remember it all, but I remember them saying that, for example, he was paranoid and always thought he was being followed, so he'd never take the same route twice. A lot of people took that to mean there really were people after him and he was innocent, but sadly it's just symptoms of his brains being mashed potatoes. WWE damn well knew it too, despite claiming the events weren't related to CTE and he just did it because he's evil or some such. The kinds of moves that caused his CTE was instantly and universally banned, and there's no reason for that if CTE wasn't behind him going bonkers. But I digress. Like I said, they might not have known he was >murderously< insane, but those near him had to know he wasn't playing with a full deck.
@@thestranger9608 No, they vandalized it to say he was taking time off because his wife died. The police ran down the IP and investigated, and said it was just a random troll with some very unfortunate timing.

I understand Owen wife’s anger but I think it’s horrible she doesn’t let wwe acknowledge him cause I feel lik it hurts his legacy only cause the new generation will solely know him as Bret’s lil brother instead of the 2x slammy winner and as one of these or if and these greatest high flyer/ tec wrestlers of all time
It’s weird that Owen Hart’s widow doesn’t want WWE to promote any of Owen’s matches. Prior to Wrestlemania XL, Natalya did a vignette about Owen and Bret’s match at Wrestlemania X.
If I remember correctly, there was actually a separate court case in the early 2010s where Martha tried to prevent WWE from ever making any sort of money off of (or even make reference to) Owen in any way, I believe due to the launch of the WWE Network & WWE wanting to make the Hart of Gold documentary/tribute DVD set. Essentially, Martha wanted to prevent WWE from ever making any more money at all off of Owen & the courts actually wound up siding with WWE, since Marth's demands were too harsh (Owen would have had to have been edited out of every show he was a part of on the Network, to comply), which allowed the Hart of Gold DVD set to see release in 2015, and WWE is legally allowed to reference Owen & show archival footage of him whenever they want, & I believe any Owen Hart royalties from WWE Network/Peacock & home video releases go to the Owen Hart Foundation, in turn. WWE is just very selective about when it references Owen today, due to the bad blood with Martha.
Owen Hart will forever be such a terrible thing. A great man and great wrestler died for a silly stunt. There was no excuse for this and Martha should have gotten far, far more from WWE for losing her husaband in such a stupid manner.
Benoit's tribute in hindsight was saying goodbye to benoit the man and the performer before having his final actions attached to his name forever. Sort of a perfect goodbye to the wrestler we all loved before not being able to say his name without tragedy again
Technically the blood from Over the Edge came from that bloodbath from the Brood but it was still the darkest day in wrestling besides the Chris Benoit situation.
None of this would have occurred if it wasn't for the Curtain Call: Triple H gets punished and loses out on KOTR. Stone Cold Steve Austin is picked to win it. Austin cuts the famous Austin 3:16 promo starting the Attitude Era. With the Attitude Era, comes The Rock. Rock and Austin put on 3 insane WM matches. AE becomes the biggest era in wrestling history, from promos to stories to uncensored vulgar language to legendary matches to some very questionable and uncomfortable moments. So thank you Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall. You breaking kayfabe led to the most legendary and iconic moments in WWE history. And you led to WWE being able to defeat WCW in just 5 years, saving professional wrestling.
Over The Edge 1999 wasn’t just controversial, it was a tragedy and it was beyond horrific that the show wasn’t immediately canceled. It still pisses me (and I’m sure many others) off to even think about, the call to keep the show running was morbid, cruel, and unnecessary. It’s also stands as a small glimpse into the fucked up, greedy, selfish, and utterly psychotic mind of one of the worst men to ever live, Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Rant finish, opinion stated.

Actually it was the result of The Hardyz and Michael Hayes getting a blood bath from the Brood.
It's actually a shame that things went down the way it did with Muhammad Hassan because I felt like the character could have had legs
And I feel even worse for the guy performing cast the character because he was a pretty talented Italian wrestler he just needed to hone his craft and they never really let him get off the ground.
They could have taken out the terroristic angle and just possibly included that on another show or something more private.
They should have kept him home for a few months and repackage him on raw
@@thestranger9608 my thoughts exactly he was only banished from smackdown the USA network never said he wasn't allowed on raw.
One thing that doesn't get mentioned often is that the WWF/E actually counter sued Martha Hart for breaching Owen's contract.
That was unforgivable honestly. I might be in the minority but I can understand why she's bitter. To be honest I would be too.
@@aidanthomas2510 I don't find her bitter. She's been vilified unfairly.
William Regal knew something was wrong! That man knew something happened!
based on the stories, just before he did his testamonial, regal was approached by JBL and he asked him "you don't think chris did something to them?". regal had a bit of time to marinate in his head. hence why his seemed so.........neutral.
@@maxacorn Okay! How did JB know something happened? Regal just seems so confident that this was all going to end badly when the truth came out!
William regal lived in the same town as the beniots in Georgia he had heard stories of from they're home town
@@lastdayonearthmysteryman4849
it seemed like he put the idea of it in regal's head. at that point, no one knew really anything about what happened in that house.
@@maxacorn Then it come out what Chris did! I remember I was five years old and I saw it on the news and was stock! Sadly now when someone found out I’m a wrestling fan this is the first thing they’re bring up!
If memory serves me, I think Vince's words to HHH at the time of the Curtain Call were: "You'll have to eat shit, and learn to like the taste."
Benoit hasn't been "completely" erased from WWE history. There are plenty of Benoit's matches still on Peacock. Especially the Wrestlmania matches he was in.
Yup even his final ecw match against Elijah Burke is up there. No kind of edits or advisory
3:45 Importantly, no shots were seen or heard on the broadcast. They were implied. That difference likely saved the show.
Wow, Benoit wouldve been 57 this year. Cant imagine him and Eddie being that old and still wrestling.
if Eddie were still alive i think he would have moved to a role like producer or NXT coach and only getting in the ring part time to help put someone over
I saw a what if scenario once written by bleacher report I think
They said Benoit probably would have been a 2x ecw champ.
I feel for them both
The Chris Benoit tribute show is still fresh in my mind after all these years.
Crazy to think it'll be 20 years soon.
@@aidanthomas2510 i know right
to be fair: WWE didn't know about the Benoit tragedy yet, all they knew was one of their hard working veterans passed away.
Somebody hacked his Wiki page to say he had been killed hours before the tribute aired 🤔🤔🤔
@@thestranger9608 No, they vandalized it to say he was taking time off because his wife died. The police ran down the IP and investigated, and said it was just a random troll with some very unfortunate timing.
7:12 They look like the Masked Man from SVR 2009
Masked Man from SVR 2009 might've been based on them. That's what I was thinking when I saw him.
Does anyone know who were under the mask who attacked undertaker with Muhammad Hassan?
My guess is developmental guys since they usually play extras on wwe TV events while in developmental in 06 EC3 and Cesaro were backstage security guards
I still think UPN was in the wrong for the Muhammad Hassan fiaso
I understand Owen wife’s anger but I think it’s horrible she doesn’t let wwe acknowledge him cause I feel lik it hurts his legacy only cause the new generation will solely know him as Bret’s lil brother instead of the 2x slammy winner and as one of these or if and these greatest high flyer/ tec wrestlers of all time
It’s weird that Owen Hart’s widow doesn’t want WWE to promote any of Owen’s matches. Prior to Wrestlemania XL, Natalya did a vignette about Owen and Bret’s match at Wrestlemania X.
That's because Martha Hart is a greedy, jealous cow who only wants to promote herself and get as much money as she can from Owen's legacy.
I imagine she doesn't want WWE to benefit or profit from him any more than they already have.
Considering the gross negligence involved and the fact that WWE sued her, it doesn't surprise me in the least.
Just say the name of the controversial and not house show 1996.
Almost no one will know what you mean
Owen Hart will forever be such a terrible thing. A great man and great wrestler died for a silly stunt. There was no excuse for this and Martha should have gotten far, far more from WWE for losing her husaband in such a stupid manner.
The thumbnail is crazy
how
Chris Ben…
@@LEVIGOLDX2*Benoit
Benoit's tribute in hindsight was saying goodbye to benoit the man and the performer before having his final actions attached to his name forever. Sort of a perfect goodbye to the wrestler we all loved before not being able to say his name without tragedy again
The recurring theme of all of these is Vince McMahon being a stupid pos and other being blamed for his f ups.
As it's been said a million times, that is not Owen's blood in the ring, it's literally there before his death.
over the edge shouldn't have continued.
Technically the blood from Over the Edge came from that bloodbath from the Brood but it was still the darkest day in wrestling besides the Chris Benoit situation.
RIP bray wyatt u are missed
ECW December to Dismember will always be Sucked!! 😄😄😄😄😄🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
This list should have included WWE mocking Britney. I mean, Vince, Johnny Ace and Kevin Dunn need to apologize for that too.
I was young and stupid so I loved December to Dismember actually
Over The Edge 1999 wasn’t just controversial, it was a tragedy and it was beyond horrific that the show wasn’t immediately canceled. It still pisses me (and I’m sure many others) off to even think about, the call to keep the show running was morbid, cruel, and unnecessary. It’s also stands as a small glimpse into the fucked up, greedy, selfish, and utterly psychotic mind of one of the worst men to ever live, Vincent Kennedy McMahon. Rant finish, opinion stated.
Kind of funny talking about Saudi Arabia and "boycotting the country" and then having one of the biggest PPVs of the year there, AND another "Crown Jewel" will, of course, have shitty matches on it.
11:07 "Perhaps" the darkest day? Come on, guys. A beloved wrestler died tragically in the ring. You don't need the "perhaps".
so high rn i jst let myself watch a video filled with information I’ve known since becoming a wrestling fan.
That wasn’t Owen’s blood, it’s visible at the beginning of the ppv and Undertaker stayed in character for his match. The still shots of him from that night are always edited to make it look like he was upset, but upon rewatch it’s clear he was always in character
Yeah it always irks me when they get that wrong. The blood was from the brood's bloodbath earlier in the night.
I have to wonder...was Kane's storyline hatred for the date "May 19th" because of the curtain call occurring on that date? I remember his movie See No Evil was released on that date, but was it literally a coincidence or a carefully planned callback?
Pullman had the most logical response to someone trying to break in his home to hurt him, especially considering his was injured. The story telling was realistic, but not appropriate for TV.
What about the episode when val venis got his thing sliced off?
Should have gone all the way and had Val come out as Miss Venus next week lmao
Is this old because I just got done watching a old wcw ppv and Chris was in it and I know it's famous but how many times is this channel going to talk about the screw job
What About One Night Stand 2006 Rey Mysterio vs Sabu Ended In A DQ
How many times can you remake the same video ?
Istg, they rehash this same thing atleast 10 times a year.
He needs those YT dollars
If I was the CEO of TKO, I'd terminate the Tenure Deal with Saudi Arabia & offering Japan a 10-year Deal to have 2 Premium Live Events in Tokyo. Id rather have WWE be in a healthy relationship with a country that actually care for its fans than just from a business standpoint.
11:35 it was a hit he broke stone colds neck and it costed the company and The talent so much money for hurting the top guy of the card
Road Warrior Hawk Titantron incident was pretty messed up.
The Hollywood Blondes had an EPIC falling out!
Benoit is in matches on Binge. He has not been edited / blurred out / name censored at all.
Feb 2nd 2024 smackdown because of what happened at the end of the show
Story where they got stuck on the plane was the biggest story during the early days of lockdown caused many of them to wanna quit all together thankfully from the looks of things wwe is doing much better nowadays
The Saudi show where damn near everyone was stuck over there was in November 2019, a few months before the world got locked down.
why is cm punk on the thumbnail
Thanks for reminding me about that Rollins Wyatt match 😭
So (#3) when does that contract expire?
Jesus, don't these guys get tired of constant Fed badding?
Over the edge 99 makes my blood boil every time I hear about it
I wasn’t watching WWE until 2010 but I can imagine watching the Benoit tribute episode and Over the Edge 1999 would be hard to watch.
The whole chris benoit tribute show on raw was not right
Literally just watched Punk talk about weeping over Chris on The MMA Hour and now here it is in the thumbnail. Would have been crazy for him given he was supposed to wrestle Chris, and he also revealed that the week before it all happened Chris rushed him into the trainers room to see Daniel taping up his hands and drawing X's on them. With the benefit of hindsight that just makes the whole thing worse, can't imagine it sits well with Punk. RIP Nancy & Daniel.
Vince swapped out original stunt rigger for Bobby talbert who had no experience doing stunts. Some say Bobby talbert is Vince’s bastard. One would think lying to get a job and killing participants would lead to a blacklisting and likely incarceration. Bobby talbert’s imdb shows something else.
Can’t believe I was at that curtain call house show
