@@BobBurg Hi, Bob, well that’s a coincidence you seeing them at the Garden as well. I can’t find my original comment but I must have said I had the same birthday as Terry on January 31 and I see you’re born so close to his birthday as well! We are all Aquarians. I don’t know if I said I’m 64 so we are a year apart. I watched an interview of Danny Seraphine describing Terry as a total free spirit which is definitely an Aquarius thing. That’s how I am. I saw another interview with Robert Lamm describing Terry’s death and he was so sad. He said “Terry was my best friend.” Robert is a Libra so Aquarius and Libra are both Air Signs and very compatible. Danny was also so sad as he talked about Terry’s death. It’s this many years later and the pain is like yesterday it happened when they discuss it. I remember in a video someone saying Walt Parazaider the sax player, Danny the drummer and Terry all were long time friends and knew each other and hung around together way before they all joined Chicago. I don’t know who it was mostly that wanted Danny fired from the band but in one interview with Danny he said “I always thought of myself as the heart of the band. Terry was the soul of the band. Peter was the singer of the band. The brass was the identity of the band. Who else? That doesn’t leave much else.” So I wondered why didn’t he mention Robert Lamm? Maybe it was Robert that wanted Danny out of the band. I loved Robert Lamm. Him and Terry were my favorites. I thought Robert had a fantastic voice and I still listen to “Beginnings” and “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” all the time. I watch those two songs on the videos done live where Robert is wearing a light purple shirt. Easy to find on UA-cam. I think it was a concert in western Massachusetts. They were young. It was around 1970. An interview with James Pankow he said Robert carried them in the beginning with all these songs he had written. I saw an interview with Peter Cetera. He said the band wanted him out because he wanted to do a solo album (kind of like Phil Collins did but still stay in Genesis) and Cetera was going to stay in Chicago but he said he felt they thought if they let him do the solo album he’d become a huge success so they gave him an ultimatum and he chose to leave if that was how it was going to be. There’s only Lamm, Pankow and Loughnane as originals in the band now. Walt had to leave a few years back with heart issues and now he has been diagnosed with Altzheimers. He said he’s doing okay and has good medical treatment. If you go to Pankow’s Wikipedia page you’ll see an up to date picture of him taken in 2022. Lamm has aged a lot but who hasn’t. He’s the only one not originally from Chicago he’s from Brooklyn but his parents moved to Chicago when he was young. I want to say when he was 10 but I could be wrong. I watched an interview with Lee Loughnane too. And I saw a lot of interviews with Peter. I love the interviews with Peter as he is so honest with his answers and so forthcoming. Danny’s interviews were like that also. Oh I watched several interviews with James Pankow as well. His interviews were very revealing and entertaining. Only could find a couple short interviews with Robert and with Terry. You can find them all on UA-cam.
@@carlalattanzi6873 Carla, thank you so much for your thoughtful response. LOTS of great information you shared and I look forward to checking it out! Have watched the videos from the concert in western Massachusetts a number of times and enjoy them more and more every time! And yes, you mentioned January 31st and that you're 64. We were probably at the same two concerts at the Garden (correctly pronounced "gahden") :-) Such an amazing and talented group of individuals! I mean really...really talented! Again, many thanks!
@@BobBurg Hi Bob, You are very welcome! I was afraid I sent too long of a message to you. I found those videos only recently of that concert in western Massachusetts and I prefer listening to “Beginnings” and “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” off those videos because Terry got to sing backup and you hear his Ray Charles like voice and it’s so amazing how he is singing “Make Me Smile” and playing guitar at the same time. Also his guitar solo on “25 or 6 to 4” is just unbelievable. His long straight hair is all in his face. You can’t even see his face and what amazes me the most is how he holds his guitar playing it by feel with his hair in his face and just plays it like it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. He knows that guitar like he was born knowing how to play it. I bet you are right that we were at the same two concerts at the Garden. You’re funny with the Boston accent spelling. I laughed when I read that. They really were such talented musicians as you say. You’ll find the interviews with James Pankow where he tells of when they moved out to Los Angeles in the very beginning and all shared this one house and to have privacy they had to make separation in the house like he said one of them, I think Terry, had speaker cabinets set up to give him kind of his own bedroom. I want to say it was James Pankow that explained he would get these ideas on new songs in the middle of the night and he would wake Terry up and it was like 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning and he’d say “Terry! Terry! Wake up! I want you to hear this song!” And Terry was sound asleep but he didn’t get mad and would wake up and listen. I think it was James Pankow that wrote “Make Me Smile”. I wonder if he decided to let Terry sing it? Terry wanted to sing. Also in those James Pankow interviews he talks about when Jimi Hendrix saw them perform in Los Angeles and Jimi said that Terry sang better than him and played guitar better than him. He wanted Chicago to tour with him and open for him and they were going to do it but before it ever materialized Jimi was dead. Thank you for reminding me what I put in my post. I’ve always had a connection with other Aquarius people. You have been a pleasure to get to know and I’m glad you found my original post and responded to it. PS One other thing when I won concert tickets from WVBF I think they were 105.7 on the FM dial it was for a concert at Schaefer Stadium and I don’t know if I mentioned this concert in my original post but The Beach Boys were part of that concert and Fleetwood Mac and some other bands. Chicago, I assumed, would be the last band to play but instead it was the Beach Boys that came on last after Chicago and I remember feeling sad and hurt when the people attending that concert cheered louder and screamed more for The Beach Boys. They loved Chicago, too, but when the Beach Boys took the stage the applause was deafening. So I had a manual typewriter at home and I typed this long letter to the band Chicago and mailed it to them not knowing if they would receive it. I must have sent it to their record label or the address on the back of one of their albums. This concert was when the Chicago 7 album came out. So in the letter I told them how sad I was that the audience cheered louder for them than Chicago. I expressed how much I loved Chicago and how I thought they were a much more talented band than the Beach Boys and I typed it single spaced and it was such a heart felt letter. It says online Chicago 7 came out in 1974. It was warm weather so I must’ve been 15 like you. And to my surprise I got a letter back from Chicago. If I’m not mistaken I think they mailed my typed letter back to me and wrote across the top “Thank you for your letter! We really enjoyed reading it!” And maybe another sentence in there. Someone signed it. I can’t remember. I know I held onto that for a long time and I can’t remember what happened to it. I really don’t even know if it was someone in the band who wrote that or someone at the record label. How would I know? I want to believe it was someone in the band. But I’d love to read what I typed. It would sound so stupid to read it today. They didn’t care if people cheered more for the Beach Boys. That was their job to make money but it really hurt my feelings. I felt Chicago should have come on last. Then at 15 years old I found WAAF in Worcester and started listening to that radio station instead of WVBF. But I won so many concert tickets and record albums from WVBF. In fact, the DJ Charlie Kendall would be rude and if I was the correct caller (we had a rotary dial phone) and he’d say “You’re the 25th caller! What’s your name?” and he’d hear my name and sometimes he’d say “You won too much already” and he’d hang up on me. Harvey Wharfield was nice. He never did that nor did Ron Robin. Harvey ended up moving over to WAAF. By the way, I searched Ron Robin on UA-cam and there’s a couple videos of him on there. He was born in 1942 so he’s 80. One of those videos he’s 67 and the other I think he’s older than that. He owns a restaurant in Provincetown.
This is really cool. I know Terry Kath didn’t like the Pop direction the band was going into around this time, but he seems to be genuinely enjoying himself here. Not to mention having the Beach Boys singing along can’t be all bad.
Chicago is my favourite band of all time. They have the melodies that weak my knees, they have the virtuosic musicianship that blows me away. Seriously, no one else that I’ve listened to can bring a group of people together and have them be equally talented in both vocal & instrumental ability.
I was 8 years old when this masterpiece came out I was born and raised in Chicago ill.i think It's safe to say I've known the lyrics to this song since then.makes me think of home.im 56 now.
In 1973 I saw Chicago and The Beach Boys at Anaheim Stadium, we rocked so much the bleachers were swaying!! Truly the Best Concert I ever saw! Rest in Paradise Terry Kath Dennis and Carl Wilson.❤️❤️❤️
People talk about the great losses in music, like Jimi. Janis, Morrison, SRV, Duane Allman, Randy Rhodes, etc.... For me, maybe the biggest loss most people overlook was Terry. He was a one in gazillion talent and I wish I could have grown old with him still here.
Amazing performance from some legends. I was looking for Terry Kath performances and stumbled on this. Chicago and Kath are underrated greats. Left too soon. Huge loss. Tragedy.
James William Guercio managed both bands…Chicago in their early years and Beach Boys for part of the 1970s. He’s shown several times in this video playing acoustic guitar.
My older sisters would always play Chicago when I was a kid. I was born in 69. And that whole time I was in elementary I thought the lead singer was a black man. That's how much soul Terry Kath sang with. I was a child thinking he was black...I had no idea...lol
Was listening to my Itunes playlist of over 600 CD's downloaded from the 70's till now. This song came on and I thought it would be improbable to see a video of it. Unbelievable to see this from 1974!!! Sounds even better than the CD version. This was amazing, thank you...

That was amazing and it was live. First time I seen this and Terry looked great here. Those harmonies, wow!
Chicago is my favourite band of all time. They have the melodies that weak my knees, they have the virtuosic musicianship that blows me away. Seriously, no one else that I’ve listened to can bring a group of people together and have them be equally talented in both vocal & instrumental ability.
Still listening to this beautiful song in 2022!
Add me listening in 2023, September
AWESOME ❤
March, 2024 ❤
I was 8 years old when this masterpiece came out I was born and raised in Chicago ill.i think It's safe to say I've known the lyrics to this song since then.makes me think of home.im 56 now.

The stars truly aligned when The Beach Boys and Chicago collaborated. Timeless ethereal music...it's too good
I vividly remember watching this performance on New Year’s Eve when I was twelve years old.
Great song!!! Masterpiece!!! Terry playing bass on this one
Beach Boys harmonies were so unique.
Thank You Peter Cetera for penning this masterpiece.
In 1973 I saw Chicago and The Beach Boys at Anaheim Stadium, we rocked so much the bleachers were swaying!! Truly the Best Concert I ever saw! Rest in Paradise Terry Kath Dennis and Carl Wilson.❤️❤️❤️
Excellent live performance.
R.I.P. Terry Kath.
This song will always be a special one.. Miss you Terry❤️❤️❤️😢
Amen. Mine Too. 🎶🎵
God Bless.💗🙌
Never realized how great this band is.
It's one of my favorite songs. Love Terry kath ❤️, sorry he is no longer with us.
Terry was a smoking bass player too, I wish this was restored in HD it's a great special.
Bass was his original instrument when he was starting out.
Absolute perfection. Terry Kath and Peter Cetera together couldn’t be topped. Timeless music.
People talk about the great losses in music, like Jimi. Janis, Morrison, SRV, Duane Allman, Randy Rhodes, etc....
For me, maybe the biggest loss most people overlook was Terry. He was a one in gazillion talent and I wish I could have grown old with him still here.
I was fortunate enough to see them at USM in 1971….unbelievable!!
Love this song and video. Peter wrote a beautiful song.
Wow, did Peter write this? Always thought it was written by Terry. How interesting
This is my 70’s little girlhood right here. Man. This takes me back…Beach boys, Terry Kath cleaned up. So classy
The harmonies were mind blowing!!!
Great Terry with the bass guitar and vocals.
Terry Kath was beautiful. My man crush when I was only 14 💔
So Much Greatness on that Stage !! ❤️
The memories this song gives me is priceless, the special time in my life as a young boy, ... Wow, memories
Still gives me goosebumps👌
No wonder the harmonies are so beautiful it's the Beach Boys! Nope didn't know that til now
He has a Kenny Rogers softness to his voice. I live them both. RIP Mr Kath and Mr Rogers 😢😢
Just sitting here and I'm like is that the Beach boys?
Is Terry Kath on Bass?
So much goodness going on
Yes, it is :)
Great love performance !!
Watching this made me learn that The Beach Boys sang harmonies and I met Mike Love and he's very nice
Pure talent thanks for posting!
I love love love this song
This song came out when I was 5 years old and my mom loves it. So do I. It’s so beautiful. My kids love it too. It’s timeless♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful and totally capable of shredding your heart to teeny, tiny little pieces...no matter WHY she left
Beautiful song.
Beautiful harmony and great group.
Wow - What a treasure!
Heard this song many times over the years, and didn't know the Beach Boys sang backing vocals, awesome!
Such clearly talented singers always in tune with little effort, natural💕
My older sisters would always play Chicago when I was a kid. I was born in 69. And that whole time I was in elementary I thought the lead singer was a black man. That's how much soul Terry Kath sang with. I was a child thinking he was black...I had no idea...lol
my luv for carl wilson got me to this site, i always wondered who that good looking guy was terry kath!
Same here.
@@vanessamarriott4223 - we should talh
Kath was one of the greatest guitarist that ever live. What a short life he had Such a tragedy about his death
Was listening to my Itunes playlist of over 600 CD's downloaded from the 70's till now. This song came on and I thought it would be improbable to see a video of it. Unbelievable to see this from 1974!!! Sounds even better than the CD version. This was amazing, thank you...
I shall never forget this rocking eve party live 74 .Watched with my girlfriend, best buddy and his girlfriend Boynton Beach Fla.
I love this so much! Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing it for us!!!
This was when music was really music. Not the trash that passes for such today. Thank you for sharing this wonderful music, friend.
Your description of today's music is spot on.
Simply brilliant!!!!! I mean? Honestly? How can you EVER top THAT!!!????? Amazing 🤩💖🙏 Thank God I had the chance to Live through THEIR music!!!! I'm 50. Don't remember the Chicago Transit Authority!!!!! LoL. JUST, CHICAGO!!!!!! My late father was a youngster with my Grammy Beverly and saw them open up for Blood , sweat and tears in Atlantic City NJ on the Music 🎶 Pier.!!!! I believe he said it was around 69 or 70!????
WoW I watched this on tv when it aired I was 11 years old, I honestly can't recall it clearly but know I watched it with my cousin's..
I remember watching it too. I was 10. When I saw this UA-cam video it came right back.
May I ask what year this performance took place? ...I've just recently "discovered" Chicago via their live 1970 Tanglewood concert. (What a Great performance that was) !!
I think it was 1974.
