Big Reveal!!
Mic A: MXL 990
Mic B: AKG C414
That MXL actually performs pretty well for a cheap mic!
It's a nice mic to keep around when I need just one more condenser....
🤠 Self-noise of these mics: MXL 20 dB(A), AKG 6 db(A). That's what you're paying extra for.
Yep, for sure there is a difference in build quality, but can you hear that extra 14db in a dense mix? Maybe the AKG fits better in a dense mix, it would be a cool thing to test...

Honestly I'm surprised that mic A is the mxl 990
To me it had more of a raw presence
Just sounded good all in all
It's not a bad mic and so cheap it's easy just to keep one around for when you need an extra.
Amazing plz suggest for less treated room which mic will be the best for vocal ? Thank you
For an untreated room I would buy the $100 dollar MXL 990 and spend the other $900 that would have been spent on the AKG and buy room treatment. Nothing is more important in a studio.
@@redtonestudio2982 thank you
You should add fade in and fade out for side by side comparisons, to get rid of the annoying pops, cheers 🥂
Thanks for watching! Will do, I hope every video gets better than the last!
So small of a difference that I can't say b is ten times better than a, or that b is $900 better than a.
That was my impression as well. Some have said the C414 will do better when stacking many tracks in a mix, I've yet to try that though. Might make a good video...
@@redtonestudio2982 it would be cool to see those two mics on the same song, mixed, and a-b'd.
🤦🏽♂️
Mic B lacks the bass, which is good for 90% of applications
It would be interesting to know if that was designed into the Mic knowing it would usually be used on vocals...
Bad video. Name mic.
The answers of which mic is which is in the comments. I wanted to make sure the listener wasn't biased from name recognition when comparing the two. Thanks for watching!
