I use these videos to help me fall asleep *every* single night, so it's always nice to have new content to doze off to. Evan, I hope you haven't uploaded even 10% of your recordings yet. I've already watched them all at least twice!

I remember listening to the time clock on my dad's Realistic five band short wave radio. Hearing this reminds me of Him. Thank you.

Awesome! Later this summer we probably ought to start getting all your stuff on The Internet Archive. I'm doing this migration with my stuff right now.

What a treasure! It was a trip down memory lane to hear the WWV announcements with the male voice used for so many years and operating under the old National Bureau of Standards!

Very nice. I remember getting a QSL card from the VNG time signal station in Australia.

This takes me back to the early 90's when I would tape so many shortwave radio oddities like spy numbers, drunk ham radio oprerators and some very exotic sounding international broadcast stations. Tried hearing some of the pirate stations but they were too unpredictable and their signals were usually pretty weak. I remember also having a lot of those old TDK cassette tapes. I wish they still sold those! 😗

I recorded a very musically pleasing jingle of what I think is CRI around 1997-1998. Then, later on I accidentally jabbed the Record button over part of it, "Because I don't need safeties!" I hadn't blocked the anti-record tab. I fixed all my tapes with electrical or masking after that! I might upload some of my recordings someday.

"sing out - sing out to Jesus"... plink plink - I recall hearing this when I began listening around 1988 with my DAK SWR purchase. My mom confirmed the title for me at that time. ;)

I remember lying in my bed in the 80s tuning into radio Moscow. Seemed to me to be a fairer and more welcoming society. I was able to visit Moscow before the collapse of the USSR and would have considered relocating had it survived.

I’ve done much the same thing as this person and have a few tapes with shortwave stations on them. Mine are probably not even as good as these but I had quite a few different things. I have also managed to get some of the tapes re-recorded onto CDs.

Were radios like Radio Budapest and Moscow operated by the Soviet governments in the countries? Fascinating that they are in English and have people with British accents doing the announcements on top of that!

43:18 Radio Pyongyang, aka "Voice of Korea" (North Korea). They still have the exact same identifying sound and broadcast in multiple languages. They are surprisingly fluent in english, french, german, spanish and russian.
The identifying anthem is the anthem of North Korea, now always followed by the anthems of Kim Il-Sung and the anthem of Kim Jong-Il.
