To anyone confused about the second scale example, he didn't play triplets. Not sure why he called it that when it is definitely a 4-note pattern. He's playing 4 notes per beat. It would have been one thing if he used those 4 notes but accented them in a triplet pattern, but he just played 1-2-3-4 with the accent on the 1 each time. Just trying to help anyone scratching their head on that.
It's 4 notes before the pattern repeats but it's still the timings of triplets, don't get hung up on the 4, it's just the order to ascend in sequence before you do it again three notes back. A little confusing but that's why it's a fresh sounding run.

I uh have been playing this naturally for over ten years. I never knew what it was called. I just loved how it made the pentatonic scale less linear!

The four notes aren't played in the same triplet. He plays 1st 2nd 3rd note, then 2nd 3rd 4th. I think.
