It’s because the stress is different in the two words. In the word ‘story’ the stress is on the first syllable ’STORy.’ In the word ‘history’ the stress is also on the first syllable: ‘HIStory.’ This makes the ‘o’ in the ‘tory’ part of ‘history’ the weak form.
Getting to know the actual meaning of the word [sensible] make my day, because in Spanish it's totally different.
