I mean, not having a concrete deadline helped it a bit I'd say, also the fact that it kinda feels like the original super mario bros with the secrets that the wonderflower brings, helps it too imo.
The developers really did just think "what if Mario but on drugs but wholesome and professionally designed"

It’s really good. It’s a mix of all the other franchises in one imo (paper Mario, 3d Mario) the only thing that is not good in this game are the boss fights

Seeing the silhouette levels gave me the biggest amount of nostalgia because all i remembered was the Donkey Kong Country levels that were during a sunset...

I do have to say though, I am really impressed that the developers of this game managed to fuse weed into acid
One of my favorite parts about this game is its reuse of older tiles, and enemies in this game. It makes it feel like the definitive Mario game.

it's a lot easier to recognize that the Red Talking Flowers are not world-dependant and do in fact show up earlier in the Sub because they're supposed to have completely different voices than the Orange Talking Flowers (exception: Colour Switch Palace). Don't know why the English Dub doesn't do that.
My favorite part is that CJ starts hating the orange flower dialogue and winds up talking to them and enjoying them.
I've been playing it since it released, awesome game, cool to see you experience it for the first time too!
First Mario game with voices was actualy Mario Kart 64 😂 then we got that ONE line of voice in Mario 64 from Peach as well

introducing new power up "wonder seed!" effect: makes player trip balls
if you really want to 100% the game, there’s a few things you missed.
first, you do have to get the top of every flagpole, and you also missed a secret exit in 1-2.
there are also 2 pipes hidden on the world map of world 1 that you missed
I love how CJ is determined to hate the talking flowers yet he can't help agreeing with their comments lol

My impression of the game so far is that it's Rayman made to look like Mario (which if anyone is liking the silly shenanigans, I would recommend checking out Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends).

There's so much good in this game that I'm worried no one is going to point out the mistakes they made. It can result in the same game being released over and over

@@s.o.m3241 Well, for starters, they could have had separate stats or abilities for each character with a setting to toggle stats On or Off. They also could have incorporated more of 3d's movement into the game through badges or merely just existing, such as odyssey/3d world dive or roll. I feel that there could have been more powerups, say, a recent mainline 2d mario with a Hammer Suit would have been nice? I understand why they wouldn't include the movement based ones, but things like the Boomerang have their own visual charm and concepts to work with. Admittedly, I'm a little surprised that Lives are still within the game with Game Over having literally no repercussion besides a silly checkpoint flag, but they've been running that joke for years. Shit hasn't mattered for a while now.
This isn't to shit on them of course, it's my favorite 2d Mario game in general right now, and may remain that way for a while. It has a lot of replayability, and I actually remember each level without having to focus. Nothing really blends together, and it feels like they're this close to the peak.
@@_WiZ420 thanks for this, i’m not super familiar w the differences between mario games so this was really helpful. you made a lot of good points. wonder clearly has a lot of new charm but yeah now that you mention it they could’ve done a little bit more with their existing powers/movement.
