  • Rembrandt was a master in the art of oil painting, but what techniques did he employ to create his masterful etchings? During my trip to his house in Amsterdam, I had the opportunity to record a video of a rare demonstration featuring the techniques he developed to create his prints. The methods I witnessed during the demonstration reminded me of some of the techniques he employed for his oil paintings. Was Rembrandt borrowing etching techniques to develop his oil paintings? Find out the answer as we tour the Rembrandt House Museum and discover the artist’s printmaking techniques.

Art Institute of Chicago has a room with around 100 paintings, 3 horizontal rows on 3 wall. I walked in, took a 5 sec look around and walked up to what I thought was the best. Portrait signed by Rembrandt.

How did he achieve the scenes that look like one continual line that's connected all the way through. Trees, house, wagons, all connected

Check out the work of Balthasar Denner I have never seen such realism and quality not even Rembrandt comes this close to utter perfection in the rendering of the human face.

Thanks for sharing valuable information! I'm looking for some translation of manuscripts by Theodore Turquet de Mayerne that talk about painting technique of 17th century painters, but I only found a very expensive book. Do you know any translated text of this manuscript?

Who was the rude person who said "please" in a nasty way after the tour guide said "I'm sure I don't need to explain this" referring to beeswax.
He was just doing his job. Some people annoy me.
