    It’s amazing how many views you have and how few people comment or give you props. 🙄Thank you for these videos, they are super helpful in understanding colors and the science behind it. I have currently been agonizing over what shade of gray, beige, taupe or greige would work best for me and after watching your video, I think Repose Gray may be my solution. Getting a sample tonight. Thank you again! 🙏

    I had a painter paint my entire dining room Alabaster OC-129 by Benjamin Moore, and I love it. There is a slight difference in color between the ceiling and the walls. The ceiling looks a little gray which is fine by me. I just love it.

    I have a 70s raised ranch with a wooden arch that leads from the dining room, two wooden beams on the ceiling, and the super dated opening with spindles looking from the living room to the kitchen. I’d imagine the hale navy blue would also make them look much nicer.

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому +1

      Hi Dan, well that's a tough question because I have no idea what the interior decor or other fixed elements you have in your home look like, so I can't give you a correct answer. Can you paint the arch, absolutely but I'm not so sure about painting your arch Hale Navy unless you have the right interior decor and remodeling to pull it off. Everything needs to be balance and repeating the same color with accents or artwork would most likely be required. You can always check out my packages here if you ever need help, jacobowensdesigns.com/. Hope that helps, Dan.

    Great video I am really enjoying this shade , what shine did you use on repose grey and the white trims ( eggshell, sating etc..) on your walls ? Curious because I like the tone you use.
    Thanks

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому +1

      Thank you for the comment Rob👍🏻 That's a good question 😊 It depends on a lot of factors. When clients get my online questionnaire these are some of the questions I ask and perhaps this will help you determine what sheen would be best for your space. What area of the home do you plan on painting? North, South, East or West? I ask this because lighting is one of the factors to consider before picking the right sheen. For example if you want to paint Repose Gray in a South facing room that has large windows and lots of light perhaps matte may be the way to go. However, there are many other factors to consider such as decor, type of flooring, kids and etc.. If it's in a North facing kitchen I may choose satin, eggshell or even semi gloss. It's one thing to find the perfect shade of color and it's equally important to get the right sheen as well👍🏻 On the video it was eggshell and satin. As for the white it depends but semi gloss and satin would work well. 👍🏻 Hope that helps you 😊

    Last spring, I painted our main-floor hallways, bedrooms, closets and kitchen in Repose Gray and then painted our large, bright living/dining area Mindful Gray, which is a shade darker. We wanted to go with grays, so I did my homework and found that Repose and Mindful worked well with Oak trim besides white trim as there is so much Oak woodwork in this house. If I had more patience, I might paint the woodwork white, but I do think the Repose looks good with the Oak. Will Oak trim ever come back in style, I wonder? Enjoyed your video!

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому

      That's awesome! I'm happy you liked your paint color palette of Repose Gray and Mindful Gray 😊 As for oak wood, I'm guessing your home must be in the mid to early 2000's? That was definitely the style back then but I don't ever see that style coming back anytime soon, if ever. As for painting the oak wood white? You would love it! I've lost count how many homes I've recommended to paint their wood trims and cabinets. Some where hesitant, especially the men but, when the job was finished they were blown away. Thank you for sharing your experience 👍🏻

      Thank you for replying! Do you have videos about painting/whitewashing wood paneling/wood trim? My dad built this house in 1965-it was my childhood home. Oak trim & paneling are everywhere, as Dad loved it that way. I have painted some of the basement paneling, but have resisted painting the large, 2-story, dark-paneled entry way, because if I do it wrong, it will be obvious. @@JacobOwensDesigns

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому +1

      @@boog.2751 Wow, all the way back to 1965! Sounds like your home has a lot memories 😊 I do talk about trims and paneling in a future video 👍🏻 Thanks for asking 😊 My videos will resume again after next week and there will be a new video every week for 52 weeks straight. It's hard for me to give you the correct answer without any visuals or answering my questionnaire that I offer in my edesign packages via online. However, I will give you one tip that may help you👍🏻 You can eliminate from sanding your trims and paneling if you use Extreme Bond Primer by Sherwin Williams. Then apply the paint color of your choice. I would refrain from white washing especially when it comes to trims and paneling 👍🏻 Hope that helps you😊

    Just recently have watched your videos and I like how u
    explain colors with their undertones. I have a kitchen with a hearth room it has a see-thru fireplace with light
    reddish/pink brick with gray grout that leads into my family room. My kitchen has white cabinets, SS appliances and white quartz countertops with gray veining. So what I learned from u is Repose gray should be a nice compliment. My adjoining hearth room is one big room with my kitchen and has a black and white Buffalo check love seat and I have black and white valances on my windows. The hard wood floor is the 90's reddish oak. The family room has same fireplace brick with white trim and beige carpet with a pinkish/ brown undertone.
    Will Repose Gray work in both my kitchen/hearth room and my family room? All rooms have Eastern exposure?

    Hope you will still check this since the post is 3 year old. Recently struggling to choose color for kitchen wall . Cabinet is light grey with little purple undertone but floor is tile with beige, white and grey blended Color. Open floor concept. The living next to it is edgecomb gray. Kitchen is east facing. Try Revere pewter, little bit too green, try gray owl, little too blue, try classic gray, color almost wash out. Thinking of repose gray but worried too much grey and worry if the room will be too dark since too many gray and repose gray doesn't have high LRV. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому +2

      An undertone is the color underneath a color, all colors have it except for primary colors. For basements many people think a light paint color will make it feel open but that's not true. It's almost opposite in many cases, more importantly it's about the undertones you have in your fixed and furnished items in the basement. Feel free to check out my one room packages, www.jacobowensdesigns.com I wish you the best👍🏻😊

    Hello. I am using repose gray as my main color in my new build house. White cabinets, white trim, white doors, black hardware/fixtures, and distressed lighter blonde/brownish wood floors. 10 foot ceilings and 8 foot doors. I am accenting a wall downstairs and base of island and a wall upstairs in indigo batik, and using interesting aqua, krypton and topsail, for bedrooms/office/utility room/powder room. Do you see any color that could potentially clash? Also was thinking about going about 80% lighter for all the ceilings with repose gray. Our house faces east btw. Would love to have your thoughts on my color scheme. Loved your video. Very informative. Thank you. Kerry

    I am trying to decide on color for a walk out lower level. I have repose gray upstairs and love it. I also have alot of black, gray, white, accenting with blue.
    Downstairs l am working with a very large sectional that is a beautiful pumpkin color. I am afraid of the undertones of both repose gray and agreeable gray that l have been looking at. My floor is vinyl in taupe/gray. My doorwalls face south. There is alot of artificial lighting. There are two bedrooms with windows facing west with many trees.
    I am wanting to use one color all over.
    Do you have a suggestion?

Living room is a navy color, and kitchen has charcoal countertops with blue/gray/white backsplash and white cabinets/trim. Painting a section of the wall, it seems that it wouldn’t clash, however, is this going to be too warm against those other types of cooler colors?

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому

      Hi Dave, thanks for the kind words:) Be careful painting Repose Gray in kitchen and hallway if you don't receive a lot of natural light. It will look much darker than you think. It's hard to say without any visuals of your kitchen that's why I offer online packages (www.jacobowensdesigns.com) to help anyone across North America. Having said that Repose Gray isn't warm compared to those fixed elements you described. However if you're trying to create a flow with the navy color in your living and kitchen there are a lot of factors to consider. For example interior decor and flooring to name a few.

    I love the look of repose gray on walls. I have seen it show as a light color on many people’s walls...just not mine! 😢 It’s just too dark for my house! It looks dark, drab, and dead.
    My house is smaller 1400 sq ft. The only natural light my LR gets is from a 4 widows in my eating area and kitchen that is joined. I have white shaker style cabinets with marble countertops..very neutral furnishings (linen/ivory/light gray accents) with dark wood floors and currently, I have BM Revere Pewter on the walls in the majority of the house. The Revere Pewter seems a tiny bit darker than I desire at certain times depending on lighting and looks a yellow at times under warm lighting in my LR. I did change my bulbs to “daytime “ bulbs and it helped a lot. When I saw repose gray in someone’s home, I regretted my Revere Pewter choice. After putting up a sample of repose gray on my walls, I can see it won’t work as I had hoped. 😫
    I tried cutting it to make it lighter. “My Texas House” on IG cut hers to 50%. I think cutting the repose gray 50% lighter changed the color. I am discovering cutting paints are not the answer. I just would like a paint color that is close to repose gray but lighter.
    Any color suggestions to try??? 🤷🏻‍♀️
    Thank you in advance ♥️

      Hi Elena, thank you for the kind words:) I believe this was either the first or second video I made way back in January. I've come along way video-wise, it's a long video, but the content is excellent. Repose Gray is a chameleon, and it loves lots of natural lighting. It's not your fault, most of the pictures and blogs you see online or in a magazine with a home painted Repose Gray will not work in a lot of homes. I've had many clients asking for my help because of this exact issue you're dealing with, so you're not alone. As for Revere Pewter, it has green-gray undertones, so that's why you're seeing the warmth of this color in your home. In two of my videos, I talk about why I don't recommend cutting paints to any of my clients. Think of interior paints like baking your favorite birthday cake. You know the recipe needs to be exact, but if you decide to change the ratios with the recipe, then the cake is not the same. It's the same thing when it comes to cutting paints; you change the ratio, and the color becomes unpredictable. As for painting suggestions, it's hard for me to give you the right answer without any visuals of your room. It's not about the paint color; it's about identifying the undertones in both your fixed and furnished items. Once you know the undertones then picking the right interior paint colors will instantly transform your home. Feel free to check out my online packages, www.jacobowensdesigns.com, if you want professional help. As for a lighter paint color than Repose Gray, there are so many maybe try First Star by Sherwin Williams.

I checked out your website! I love it!!! 🥰 Such a brilliant idea! 💡
      We are going to add some pan/recessed lighting in our LR/great room to see how it helps with the lack of lighting. We bought this house built in 2007 a year ago and my husband is doing all the work himself. We have installed new cabinets, floors, added trim..and painted. I do love Revere Pewter, but I feel like I want to repaint over the Revere Pewter (that is less than a year old).😜 I am going to see what the new lighting does first because I think we need more lighting in there regardless. I know lighting will effect our new color choice too. I am so glad to have found your channel and also your website! ♥️ I feel you will go above and beyond for any client! Thank you!

      It depends what undertones you have in your beige carpet. Repose Gray and Agreeable Gray are polar opposites. I don't have any visuals so I can't give you the right answer. Having said that, if you want to roll the dice then go with Agreeable Gray strictly in terms of pairing it with your carpet.

      Hi Kaitlyn, that's a good question. It's not your fault, gray paint colors are complicated and you're not the first person to ask me this question or experience this problem with Repose Gray. I've helped out a lot of my clients who wanted to transition their home away from gray paint colors. The downside about gray paint colors with a blue undertone is there is nothing you can do about the blue undertones on your wall. There are so many factors at play but I don't have any visuals of your home to help you but feel free to check out my online packages www.jacobowensdesigns.com if you want your home to be professionally done in the future. Having said that, the best thing you can do is to add warmth to your rooms. Think of floor rugs, change the interior light bulbs to add more warmth, add some orange or red-orange throw pillows and etc..

      Hi Mindy, it depends on what type of artificial lighting is in your home. If its daylight and above you notice blue and violet undertones depending on shadows. Daylight and below it will appear darker and muted. You will tend to see more violet undertones. I wish you the best:)

      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому +2

      Depends where you use it and it's a personal preference as well. Every home is unique and there isn't a perfect fit for everyone. In short flat is good for ceilings or walls where you don't want a lot of reflection depending on your lighting conditions and etc. However it's not the best choice for high traffic areas of your home. Semi gloss is good for trims, woodwork, built-in cabinets and etc.

      Hard to say without any visuals. Paint colors alone are not the answer to creating a harmonious flow. It's more complicated than just picking paint colors. You need to take into account the type of undertones, colors, fixed and furnished elements that you have in your rooms. Repose Gray does go well with Sea Salt but I'm assuming you paired the Sea Salt correctly with your bathroom.

    Will the next shade darker on the card, mindful gray, act as a chameleon paint also or is this effect isolated to repose gray? A decorator told me if I want to sell the house to paint it repose gray or light french gray if I want a true gray. She also said I could go one shade darker to mindful gray but to do it in repose if I want to sell it. That is a confusing statement from which I cannot draw a conclusion. I don't know if we will sell or not. If I stay here I would like to go darker. I was also thinking of using the PPG 2018 color of the year Black Flame for an accent wall. In addition I would like to paint the doors, but all of the trim in the house including the doors is some kind of fruit-wood stain specially mixed in 1986 and I cannot match it 100%. I cannot think of any color for the doors that would blend with mid-toned wood trim and I really can't paint all the trim throughout the house. It is too much.

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому +1

      Mindful gray is a darker gray when compared to Repose Gray. You will see two different undertones with Mindful Gray with the influence of natural and artificial lighting. As for a true gray? There is no such thing as a true gray. Always compare color, as for gray you either have lighter or darker. Cooler or warmer. Cleaner or dirtier. When it comes to wanting a particular type of color for your home compared to painting your home to sell are two different set of circumstances. When it comes to selling your home, the color isn't about what you like, it's about finding the right interior paint colors that will attract a larger audience of buyers and it should go with the fixed and furnished items of your home. Hope that helps you and thank you for posting:)

    I have a kitchen and living room area I'm considering painting with repose gray. The living room has a very large west facing window that provides a lot of natural light. There is a 8' walk through between the kitchen and living room and the east wall of the kitchen has a standard sliding patio door with full length glass so the is a considerable amount of natural light. The floors are a natural solid red oak and all trim work is bright white. My concern is will the repose gray go well with the natural finished hickory kitchen cabinets? The counter tops and black splash are not selected yet so those can be chosen to work with the repose gray undertones. What are your thoughts on this paint color and ideas for matching the counter top and back splash?

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  5 років тому

      Hi William 😊 Good questions 👍🏻 I don't want to mislead you because I don't have any visuals of your kitchen and living space. However I will give you some helpful tips. So you have warm undertones with your flooring and earthy hickory cabinets. Typically you will have one of these warm undertones: yellow, red or orange. If that's the case I wouldn't recommend Repose Gray but then again I don't have any visuals on your interior decor style, hard and fixed elements in these two rooms. Sounds like you're remodeling? You have warm undertones from what I've read in your comment and it sounds like you want to update the interior of your home to be more modern? I would recommend you to figure out what kind of backsplash and countertops you want first before finding the right paint color. I bet I'm not far off but your hickory cabinets are the boss of your kitchen. Another words your cabinets will influence the type of paint color and fixed elements that you can choose. You can fix this by painting or replacing your kitchen cabinets. Your wood floors are like blue jeans, so that's not really a concern. Painting should be the last step unless you know what your future plans are in terms of remodeling your home. Hope this helps😊
