In short, operations and supply chain management is about keeping all of the pieces of a company running smoothly so that everything is always ready when it's needed.
And, this is where many companies struggle because they don't have a clear idea of what they want to be doing in the first place. They don't know what their strengths are or how best to leverage them to achieve their goals. They don't know where their weaknesses are or how best to overcome them. They don't know how best to organize themselves and divide up responsibilities so that everyone can do their part efficiently and effectively. And they definitely don't know how best to work with all of their suppliers, customers, employees and other stakeholders so that everyone can play well together, even when things are tough or challenging.
