For a review, please visit my website: audionostalgia.co.uk/tannoy-dc2000-review/. The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the look and feel of Tannoy DC2000 speakers and not their sound.
i have been hearing Tannoy Dual concentric for 45 years i have recently added the DC2000 to my collection and sound superb with Cambridge audio amps. exciting sound , i believe in this case your AMP does not match these speakers (does not mean they might not suit your golds)
I have had the DC2000 for about 3 years. I have upgraded my power amp and DC2000 are now fed better and they sing beautifully for me. I now have Onkyo Integra M-5060R.
I do like Dire Straits, but I also like a lot of other recordings which you probably would not be to keen on :). I publish these videos to give a look and feel of the speakers, not really for anyone to appreciate the sound. Although, it is always good to have a good video background music.
Even better on vinyl! Was actually spinning this last night with my DC2000s on the back of Denon/Rega/Naim. I guess I'm biased as these speakers really lap up the current, and only cost me £15, boxed and mint in 2009!!
Hi great great speakers indeed ! Congratulations ! I am a Tannoy fan myself Try a nice tube integrated with them and listen Yamaha is fine ... but good tubes are heaven Regards, gino
Bought this pair to replace the Tannoy Mercury-S in early 90s and soon realised that unlike the Mercury-S, I need to play the music loud in order to bring out the best from this pair, at that time my amp was a Cambridge with a Rotel as a backup, those 2 amplifiers are long gone but the DC2000 speakers remains till today, now hooked up to Yamaha A-S301 Integrated Amp.
I would say yes! I heard them, and the Sixes as well, at that time. The DC2000 somehow were more free in their breathing and presentation the others were good - but I just prefered the DC2000's
Can anyone tell me if the DC2000's outperform the 611's? They both have a similar construction concept but im wondering which will be the better speaker.
Yo compré un par en España cuando aparecieron en 1989 y mes costaron unas 100.000 pts, al cambio actual 600€. Me gustaban muchísimo. Supongo que porque fueron mis primeros altavoces de calidad. Por aquel entonces los usaba con un Denon PMA-520 con muy buenos resultados.
connect to an AV amp also has same sound to a stereo tv. slowly add volume to tv and the stereo image of the Dual Concentrics will move baclwards because the tv speakers will add audioble phase errors to the audio.
is do to physics of sound not Tannoy . "SOUND QUALITY I began by spinning a beautifully mastered and pressed vinyl version of The Fall’s Frightened from a first pressing of Live At The Witch Trials. For a few seconds, I was motionless and a bit dumb-founded. The nature of the stereo imaging was just staggering. I’d never really heard anything like it before. Many speakers take the soundstage and present it to you in a fairly flat manner. Then some of the good examples push the stereo image back and provide depth and a slice of 3D to add a firming image. Not the Tannoys. What the Eatons did was to pick up the lead singer, Mark E. Smith, and drag him forward into new space. Then they placed air and space around him. I felt that I could have risen from my chair and walked around him. That was how crafted the image was. Not so much 3D as hologrammatic!"
The Tannoy DC 2000s are excellent speakers they are enclosed speakers (no ports) they need to be closer to a wall and not just thrown anywhere in a room . These are very neutral speakers that can deliver very low and articulate Bass. Can be placed right up against a wall. Badly reviewed, absoluteolute bargain at the prices being sold at the moment.
Each to their own. I thought these were OK but I was not blown away. I've tried them right against the wall and I did not like the results - like with most other speakers, you get an artificial boost in the lower frequencies and boomy bass. Unless the speakers are designed for this, the further away from the walls (reflected sound) the better. In terms of speaker placement, if possible and practical, I always try to ensure that speakers are the same distance from the side and back walls, and always create equilateral triangle between the speakers and listening position. I also try to place the whole setup in a position that minimises standing waves.
Tannoy's will reveal sound characteristics of source material and equipment, which is why i searched for Yamaha review for his amp, and sure enough i found what he blamed on the Tannoys " The Yamaha A-S2000 has a lot of things going for it, but an exciting sound is not one of them." is also the reason Hi fi choice magazine have Dual Concentric speakers built in the walls of a demo room.
@@neilalf147 It is just incomprehensible to you that someone may hear things differently and have different preferences to you? Do you automatically have to look for something to blame? I've had excellent results with Yamaha Amps and various speaker designs, so I don't really see these as a week component. If anything, they are very neutral, un-coloured and measure very well. This means that they do not have character of their own, which is often perceived as lack of excitement. I made a mistake of falling in love with Tannoys and their design in the past. I thought that these were the best thing since sliced bread. Then when I stated reading up and testing different speaker designs, I realised that there is no one best way to produce a loudspeaker. If it was, everyone would be making them this way. And yet, you have open baffle speakers, boxed speakers, electrostatic speakers, horn speakers, ribbon speakers and the list goes on. They you have different diaphragm materials, different crossover topologies, active and passive speakers, etc. And each manufacturer claims that their idea is the best. Ultimately it is about what works best in your room and what sounds most realistic/natural to your ears. Tannoy DC2000 did not work for me, but I'm happy that they work for you.
@@@AudioNostalgia did you know that Tannoy have a very expensive Amplifier that they designed and built themselves that is extremely neutral and transparent that you cant buy anywhere?, they have to because of how neutral dual concentric's are so that they can design and test the models. i can hear radio mucking about with microphones on football commentary that i only hear on the DC. Tannoy DC are 1 of only a few that can play musical harmonics extremely close to a sound wave, (must be point source laws of physics). now if you add lively speakers with slightly more or too much dynamics then your Yamaha amps will be a match and will compliment each other. as i have been interested in hifi and music since 3 years old (Tannoy gold 10 inch my dads) that means i am used to hearing music without the phase errors (only room added coloration) so will sound correct to me. if however you are used to separate drive units with phase errors then you remove the phase errors (trying Tannoy DC) it will sound different and may sound wrong to you (personal choice) one way is correct to laws of physics (and my personal preference) and the other is correct to personal preference. i knew to look at your amp review because i know how DC work and the way they reveal the musical nature of a recording (one of the reasons why so much music was mixed on them). also DC have a very good transient Response ( will sound exciting (may be laws of physics but not sure on that one)) "Ultimately it is about what works best in your room and what sounds most realistic/natural to your ears." not in doubt 100% true
@@neilalf147 I did not hear about this Tannoy amp but this sounds to me like a marketing wank and not a genuine reason. After all, there are number of brands out there that specialise in high quality neutral amplification, with years of experience and great credentials, and Tannoy is not one of them. If you want a remarkably neutral amp - to my knowledge, there is no amp that currently (2019) measures better than Benchmark ABH2. You mentioned phase errors number of times - do you have any academic articles that cover this subject in relation to coaxial speakers and perceived sound quality? I'd be very interested to have a read. Also, how does time aliment fit into your Tannoy admiration? As you know, the acoustic centre of the tweeter is far behind the acoustic centre of the woofer, especially in the DC drivers with alnico magnets. To my knowledge all pre 1970s DC driver were not time aligned. It is only in the Red Monitor and Gold Monitor ranges from 1980s where time alignment circuits were added to the crossover. Are DC2000 time aligned? I very much doubt it, looking at their rather simplistic crossover. Then again, can one actually hear time alignment issues? Any speaking of issues, how about low frequencies of the DC driver modulating high frequencies, causing greater intermodulation distortion vs other speaker designs? There are certainly benefits to a point-source driver design but this is not a 'be all end all' solution to a good sound. And you seem to imply that because of DC construction Tannoys are somehow better that all other speakers on the market. You don't seem to appreciate that there are many components that contribute realistic sound reproduction and point-source is only one of them. You seem to concentrate on one of Tannoy's selling points, and ignore disadvantages of this solution. And how do you explain Tannoy Kingdom - their flagship speaker... where apart from DC driver, it also has an additional woofer and a super tweeter, which according to your previous post is most likely not going to reproduce harmonics as accurately as a single DC driver? Don't get me wrong, I really like Tannoy as a brand and I do like their designs. However, loudspeaker design is always a compromise - different manufacturers make compromises in different areas, but no one of them has made a speaker sound like the real thing yet...

I've had a pair of Tannoy DC 2000 speakers for close to 25 years now. They are fantastic speakers.
Love these speakers - Had mine for years and still in awe of them!
This just reminded me how much I love this record!

wow very cool set-up, i love when its easy to use, fast, very good quality, clean, no mess with the cables.. good job! and btw VERY nice shirt haha
FINALLY out of the countless demos I've watched someone picks a good disc to play for evaluating a system.....

Very Nice. I have my setup connected to a pair of 13 year old Axiom audio M60 speakers and they sound sweet.
I love your videos, thank you.
Thank you for your kind words!
I have the Saturn S6 LCR pair, which also use dual-concentric and they are amazing. I don't think I'd ever want to part with them.

@Arcamfmja32: Bardzo mi milo - dzieki ;). Dzisiaj dodalem nastepny filmik, tym razem ze slicznymi Goodmansami - zapraszam do ogladnia. Pozdrawiam.

Sounds Great! and love the Yamaha set up...Congratulations.
Thank you. I no longer have the speakers, but I do like my Yamaha gear.
TANNOY my favorite

nice amp. nice speakers. wonder how this amp would sound with some Heresy speakers? any comments or suggestions? this amp is kind of mellow and clear.

Just bought a pair from eBay, time to see if they can come close to the almighty wallop of the TDL Studio 1M.
