Edit: Surprisingly, this is the first video I've seen about NATO that actually mentions the financing behind it that I'm talking about below. Also thought I'd mention that Greece has been at the 2% mark since 2014, and a few smaller countries not mentioned in the vid have reached the 2% mark in 2019 too. The reason Trump said he wanted out of NATO is because NATO requires members to spend 2% of their GDP towards NATO. Before Trump came into office, the US was paying NATO over 3.5% of its GDP, and the UK and Greece were the only others paying at least the required 2%. Only 3 out of 28 countries in NATO were paying their fair share. In 2019, Bulgaria, Estonia, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland joined the US, UK, and Greece in paying at least 2%. No wonder Europe hates him. Its because hes actually putting America first. I know he said he wanted out of NATO, but I think he really just wanted to scale back our involvement, but knew he'd get the free media coverage if he appeared more extreme. Plus, hes a businessman, and the first rule of negotiation is to appear to want more than you actually do so you can negotiate them down to what you want.

Unlikely, as Europe and Russia have very different political ideologies, but not impossible either. All countries are going through a political upheaval, and NATO is a military alliance, not political. Russia would have much to gain but also much to lose. Europe does not need Russia, but in certain scenarios, would have much to gain too. In the end, the only big trouble is that Russia does not cooperate with anyone. If that would change, then anything and everything would be possible.

Y'know, apparently NATO wouldn't be able to halt a Russian invasion. Yet... Ukraine alone (with extra weapons and materials supplied of course) has done so up to a much greater extent than expected for the past 20 days.
Let's see, this video is before the invasion. Before the invasion, most military experts and intelligence services assured that if Russia launched its offensive on Europe in one day they would control the Baltics, in 3 days they would be in the Vistula and in a week parading in Berlin. Obviously there was an over-estimation of the capabilities of the capabilities, we have seen so many times the US military do things like take a capital of a country to the other side or launch bombings that seem to never end that there was simply an assumption that Russia could do similar things. Exactly, It's like at the beginning of the vid where they where talking about how wrong Trump was and that he "lied". They don't seem to understand that often Trump talks in hyperbole or is echoing the sentiments of many in this country. I mean, if Europe hates us so much why are we spending so much of our national treasure (both money and human personal) on protecting those who would spit in our face? Do we want to be worshiped? Of coarse not, but at least show a bit of gratitude for what we've done and are doing, and certainly don't be so hostile about us. And that is what Trump is echoing in the halls of the elites and globalists is the thoughts of the common guy. And the fact that the video said that most of EU NATO countries FAIL to me their treaties and commitments to the alliance is proof of what we're most fed up about. Europe is hailed as a bastion of socialized medicine, ""free" college and other things, yet it's in large part due to the lack of money they spend on defense that allows them to do this. It's like you agreeing with your neighbors to put up a fence and gated community, yet you get stuck with paying for most of it's cost while they drive a new Porsche into their driveways. Then they have the gall to complain when you demand they pay their fair share!
While we shouldn't abandon our longtime allies, it really would be in the EU's best interest to be battle ready without the US, in case of emergency elsewhere such as the Pacific or the US mainland.
Wait, you mean to tell me that the European Empire of old is no more. France, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain are no longer the juggernauts of the past. We are talking about countries that ruled much of the entire world for at least two centuries. How the mighty has fallen

I get that this channel tries to stay fairly neutral to the politics since they can be so toxic. But it's pretty important to point out that President Trump made those remarks on NATO (when the US and England were the only ones meeting the 2%+ contribution) to begin negotiations for member contribution. Because of this, 13+ other countries agreed to increase their contributions and 3 actually met the goal within a year. I think people need to do a better job of separating the personality of a leader with the results that said leader provides. Everyone seemed to like the personality of Jimmy Carter, FDR, and (for some reason) Former VP Joe Biden but none of them did anything that pushed the interests of the United States forward on the global stage.
The solution would be to support the navies of the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. These are the strongest naval countries behind the USA, these navies are strong and they already work together on the North sea area.
I get where America is coming from if I was paying much more and subsidising other countries I would be annoyed as it’s just disrespectful and lazy. Atleast in Britain we pay our way.
I think the intended result Trump was aiming for was NATO actually stepping up and meeting their agreements. Trump aims for the moon when his intention is the top of a building. This is his negotiation strategy. As of now significant progress is being made for our allies to meet their funding goals. This was the intended result.

Poland and Romania were paying 2% before 2019 and plus, they agreed to pay 2% by 2024, so no one has done anything wrong

Even with everything, the US Army is still far from equal when it comes to power projection.

“Disastrous decision to leave the EU”. Tells us something about the thoughts of the creator.
Yeah, if anything they’ve proven exactly why the USA or at least trump wants to leave for reasons somewhat understandable, it’d be disastrous for Europe rather than America
Yes,I was just about to comment on that. Britain made exactly the right choice.
It does.
Though I don’t think anyone could say Brexit is currently going “well”. The best argument I’ve heard is that leaving the EU could be better over the long run, but as of now it looks like a bit of a mess.
Hilfigertout - Mainly because the Remainder crybabies did everything they could to slow and complicate matters rather than just ripping off the proverbial bandaid and trading with WTO rules.
I’m sick of my tax dollars supporting countries who could care less about us. But expect us to be there?! USA LEAVE NATO!!!!

He actually did point out that message was made during UK and the US had met their goal in the video

I think the intended result Trump was aiming for was NATO actually stepping up and meeting their agreements. Trump aims for the moon when his intention is the top of a building. This is his negotiation strategy. As of now significant progress is being made for our allies to meet their funding goals. This was the intended result.
Sadly, there were Americans who did not see the wisdom of Trump's words and actions.

The UK has always kept it's commitment to a 2% NATO spend and has backed the USA in all of their wars apart from Vietnam. The bit about the Brits using American aircraft as the major troop transports in the Falklands conflict is just wrong. The vast majority of UK land forces being ferried to the Falklands by ship. The UK now has two state-of-the-art aircraft carriers equipped with the F35 Lightning, so to say that France has superior forces is just wrong.
Fair point, it is funny though, that the UK's aircraft are F-35s, an American made jet. Pretty cool though.
