3:06 RIP Headphone users. Well, at least it was spiders inside and not something else. Of course, the systems that are dirty and beat up always tend to work fine while the very nice conditioned ones never seem to work right.
Ooops. My bad. Don't worry. The ringing in your ears should subside in 24 hours 😂 Seriously. But not gonna lie. Dead spiders creep me out. Like the way the legs curl in when they're dead. Weird.... I know right? I'll get a pristine console in with all sorts of issues. In a basement for 20 years and reeks of mold? Works fine lol. I'm about to record one where the disc drive is glued shut. The system works fine otherwise. Boots games just fine lol.
Great video as always, I'm glad you include things in great detail. I have some old PS2s with very rusty heatsinks and metal shielding. I'm wondering if soaking them in vinegar or electrolysis would work rather than grinding them down. Do you have any thoughts on that idea?
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words ☺️ I say give it a try! At least if you're repainting anyway. The vinegar will likely dull the shiny surface on the top shielding. I've never tried electrolysis but I've seen antique restorers use it to remove rust and paint so I'd imagine it'd work here too. I grind now because I bought those wheels for an unrelated home project and could only get them in like a 200 pack so I'm trying to get rid of them hahahaha. I may move on when I run out of these. It's very messy which is why I do it outside.
Great video!! Been restoring a 35003 unit. Almost done. Just have a lil problem ish. My optical drive reads everything. Loads up ps1 games perfectly, ps2 games take a little longer (dvd rom) as in, past the ps2 start up screen to the browser & system configuration screen 20-30 seconds later PlayStation 2 screen (for the game) it’s the original laser. Is it time to replace the laser so it loads like it was brand new? I’ve stripped cleaned and greased the drive and cleaned the laser. And the thermal pads, mine are exactly the same, did you use 3mm pads on the 2 smaller chips and then 2mm pads on the graphics chips etc? I wanna make sure I get the correct ones. And what a good idea on spraying the RF shields, never crossed my mind. Looked great afterwards!!! Now the idea is rolling around in my head! Maybe a blue to match. I plan to further install a RePS2 CPU so I can also install a retro gem in. Along with led strips in the front grill with dark and light matching blue. With McBoot and the hard drive or ssd mod.
Thank you! I'd say that yeah, you're laser is on it's way out. Mine was acting like that on my launch model 30001 before it went completely kaput. Usually it starts by not ready one type of disc, usually blue then long load times then no disk. Though I've seen it with long load times then nothing. If you want to replace it while you're in there, it wouldn't hurt! If I encountered it on a system I'm selling I would. Though on my own personal system, I run it until it dies lol. I used an assortment pack of thermal pads so I wasn't paying attention to the actual thickness while filming. I just matched up the thickness of the originals to the new ones. But looking at it for you, it appears I used 1mm for the CPU and GPU and 2mm for the 3 ICs.
@ awesome!! Yeah this is for my own personal model. Trying to keep original functionality as much as I can. As I suspected, I will definitely replace that laser then at some point. I really appreciate you finding out the thicknesses of the thermal pads too. Keep up the good work look forward to your next project.
For the power supply I use alcohol and a toothbrush then use an automotive microfiber cloth, and use the toothbrush with the cloth on the board, so that I can brush the alcohol and grime into it.
if you going the de-ironised route you could use normal soap and watrer to get the board clean making sure theres nothing mechanical water can get in then use the de-ironised water for rinse and finaly use the isopropnol alcahol to disspell any residule water.
I always hand wash with hot soapy water, dry with compressed air, then let dry for 24h. In this instance i would wash earthing accept the laser unit. Never had an issue, tinkering and restoring electronics for the past 30+ years.
Hello, i recently got a PS2 Fat SCHP 30001 R with an issue, the console wont turn on, the power button light stays at a solid red but it wont boot no matter how much i press the button, do you know if this issue is the button's fault or is something wrong with the mobo?
New Sub; Dryden, Michigan. I just Acquired a PS2 someone found in the Mud... Legit Got it all Cleaned out, It Boots! But now I have tot get the DVD Drive Re-Aligned, that Never Lines up for Me LOL Water is Fine, Just Ya Know... Dont have the PS2 Plugged in... After the water, Dry with an Air Compressor, then Rinse with 90% Alcohol after the water to ensure everything is Dry Well Done
They are just an assortment of thicknesses I bought as a kit on Amazon a while back for another project. Sorry I didn't pay attention to what sizes they were. I just grabbed them and matched up the thickness. The brand of the ones I used are OwlTree and the thicknesses are .5-2mm.
0:24 "I don't know what we're going to find on the inside here"
Imma guess.... Spider Graveyard?

@titanrepairs You are doing a great job getting rid of them all so far, I might get them as well haha. Thanks!

Interesting. So same theory I'm doing with the paper wipes then it seems.

Thanks for the tip! Do you just use dish soap?
@@titanrepairs Yes Dawn.
All those webs and dead spiders, you should have released this on halloween, lol
I wanted to but fell behind on shooting and editing lol. Better late than never I guess!

Thanks for the sub!
Yeah. I try not to mess with the alignment. If it works I leave it be lol. It can be quite temperamental.
Thanks for the insight!
Wow lots of webs 🕸️🕷️🕸️🕷️
Yeah.... I'm his wife and I'm horrified that these things come into our home 😂
At least it wasn't roaches 🙂
What thermal pads did you use? And will they fit all ps2 phat?

Unfortunately not yet. I'm working on things in the background to change that.

That is definitely a spider excrement. They poop and pee also.
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮
I would use holy water 😂😂😂 Thanks for sharing
Never use hot glue.
Any particular reason you wouldn't?
That vacuum isnt very good.
No. No it is not lol. It was like 15 bucks. Works fine for dust but definitely met its match with the spider webs.
