Amazing stuff but it depend on the condition of the sentence so we can not say that the preposition is fixed The sentences you provide are easy it follows same rule but its tricky when the given sentence consist of compound and complex sentences it depends upon the situation of sentence
Consider this example the preposition changes
My son emerged *FromBehind* the curtains *To* scare me
My son emerged *From Within* the curtains with the intention *Of* scaring me
So we can not say preposition is/are fixed😇
To and Of changes accordingly

by+(car/bicycle/taxi/ bus /train)
by +( boat /ship /plane )
by +(air /sea)
°we travelled by train(not by the/a train)
I went to iran by air.
2# we do not use" by" when the reference is to a specific car /train /bicycle etc given above..
Akram went there on my bike (not by my bike)
We travelled in Mr. Hassan`s car.
They came in a taxi.
I will go on the bus.
note ..here you can use articles.
on for ..bicycle .bus.train.ship or plane
In for car.taxi.van.lorry.or ambulance.
but we say on foot(note ever by foot).
