Hey, Jonah! Great lesson today. I have "fallen off the wagon" in my daily practice from all the logistics involved in the release of my recent album, but I am now determined to get back into the groove. Your "Blues Harp Success" course is going to be really essential in getting me back on track, especially with Harp Trainer. What is that old joke: How do you get to Carnegie Hall??? Answer: Practice, practice, practice!
OK, now I am going to get back on track to get into my version of Carnegie Hall. Happy Holidays to you and all your subscribers and our Happy Community of Harpists! Cheers!

Fair. I’m experimenting with the title. CTR and all that, i’ve changed it three times already. Thanks for watching though, Jason, I appreciate the feedback!

Hi Jonah, thank you for the essential reminder to keep practicing scales. Your execution of the blues scale is impressive, particularly the rapid overblow - it sounds fantastic!

Hello Jonah! I have a question to ask. I am a beginner and use the sp20 C key. The problem I encountered is that the draw 1st hole sound is always very bad, stuffy and unpleasant. I tried to minimize my mouth as much as possible, but the effect was not very ideal. Especially for the second hole, it is difficult to quickly switch between opening the mouth as wide as possible to fully inhale and then moving it to a hole to reduce the mouth shape. May I ask how to achieve a clean and pleasant first hole sound. Thank you very much.Sorry for my poor English。

I don't know exactly, but I would suggest you look into diaphragm breathing to open your airway up more and provide more force. Also, you may want to try another embouchure. I find that tongue blocking increases my airflow in a way where playing with better tone is more natural. Besides these suggestions, just try to practice a good tone on hole 1 for a long time. There is likely a subtle change in your embouchure that you need to just discover. Also, try other harmonicas and see if the problem persists.

Thanks for the cheatsheet. I'll use that daily. 👍👍

The Cheat Sheet is a great learning tool. I've used this method of teadhing over many years. However, I feel for the beginer, such as myself, your cheat sheet, is to busy, there's to much information. Again as a beginner, I'm more focused on playing the basic scale. Not to concerned about overblows, or bending notes. I just want to know what note I'll hear when I blow a 4 hole, or draw a 4 hole.

How did I ever become a blues harp player? I never practiced scales, nor did I set myself goals. I did become obsessed with Paul Butterfield and learnt everything he did note for note on his first 2 albums, after that, I was on my own. I've been playing for 60 years.

I like doing long tones on scales for like 5-10 minutes as a warm up. It helps to get me breathing from the diaphragm and I learn a lot about how my breath in general shapes the sound.
