Flares posses different kind of heat signature related to the the Jet (Engine, nozzle, nose, wing heat signature), cause Missiles are mainly made of two kind of seekers (RADARS), IR (infrared) and RF (radio frequency). When missile is in closed range they deploys flares to misguide or confuse the missile's seeking capability to avoid collision. No fighter jet is superior or stealth or invincible. Pilots are invincible. Air combat totally depends on strategy and such veterans. System of warfare is secondary. That's true..
