The really nice thing about entry markers is after you take that next step and upgrade (if you don’t sell them) you’ll still have a backup if your main goes down and you’ll have a second electronic marker to help friends get into the game.
Yea I started with an axe and if I really get into this imma buy a sick marker and use it as my back up. Planning on going this sunday
I am selling my mini gs Sunday to help a new player get into the game 🔥 its gonna be a sad day but I am glad its going to a new home. Ive since upgraded to a etha3 and 170r.
@@AaronLopez-wk4xvI made the same moves as you lol. IMO I hated the mini gs, stock accuracy was pretty terrible 😭. For the same price would definitely recommend the etha 2!! Hope you’re enjoying your 170
@@stanfordbrown3397 oh yeah i barely used the stock barrel and the stock barrel was 💩. I always used an upgraded barrel kit so i never had to worry about that fortunately lol learning to bore my paint was a game changer for sure. HELL YEAH the 170r is 🔥🔥
Old school player, started playing tournaments in 98 with a WGP autococker. Upgraded to a shocker and then a Bob Defiant, Which I still have. Haven’t played in years, thinking of getting back into it.
Its still a blast to play. More bunkers makes it easier to play slower and find the holes. Makes for some fun plays and matches.
@@MattTheGymRat word, I’m Hitting the field this weekend at TC paintball in MI. Looking forward to rippin some paint!
Man, you just made me think about my minimag from back then!
same thing 98 wgp, dark angel led, dark intimidator, then a karnivor.
I went cockers to timmys.... had a shocker for a bit too
My son is 12, and I bought him a Mini GS for Christmas. He likes the feel of it, but he already told me he wants a 180R. I told him to get a part time job. But all seriously the Mini GS is a good gun for the price.
Yeah he's going to have to pay for the big buck markers
Mine was an 08 ego. Loved that gun. Then had a dm12, sl94, luxe, empire axe, sniper, tippman a5, ion and ton ton shocker.
First tournament electric marker I used was a BL intimidator back in 2006, then saved and saved for a joy fly
Those Fly's were iconic.
The timmy was better.
me and my mini gs watching your videos together all the time. Never played a tourney at 31 probably wont ever get to. havent played on an airball field in 15 years. none around or cant afford. hour long drive to fill air tanks from where im at.
Oh wow that's no joke. The dedication to even play is insane!
I'm getting back into myself, similar story. I bought a personal pcp compressor for like $200 to fill my tank at home
@@Mori72420 got a hand pump I believe is made for pellet guns? But it’s nearly 200 repetitions to get to 1500 on a 38 3000 aluminum tank.
@@Mori72420 got some more info on this? I wouldnt imagine any compressor you could buy outside of a SCUBA rated one would pressure a tank at all
The best thing about this video is that the mini GS even though it's like the lowest end of speedball guns it's still amazing
first gun i used in a tourney was a 2011 Proto Rail with a 3k steelie tank, Halo B loader, and the stock 11" barrel. New players in 2024 should consider themselves lucky.
make it sound like the rail was bad. my teammate in the day ran a rail and of us his was the one that didnt go down at some point. i had an ion then there was a pm7, and shockers.
That’s what I started with for tournament. I didn’t run it long. Went to a PM5, then dm5. I ran those two for years. Still miss the dm.
The rail is great. You should consider YOURself lucky.
My first tournament marker was a Nelspot 007 back in 1985. Pump action, 10 round tube, 5gram Co2 cartridge. Yeah, I’m old.
You should be ashamed of yourself for being so old.
1st gun I used was a Proto Matrix Pm5 way back in the day. One hell of a brick
Protos we’re awesome markers for guys who couldn’t or didn’t want to pay for a dm5-6 around that same time, those markers were still $1000 back then. Only thing I didn’t like about protos were they always seemed to have a leak after a good bit of playing. I still have my pm7 just rebuilt it actually.
Just got into paintball again after years and bought a Mini GS, loved it and brought back the love of getting out into the field with buddies
My first marker was an Axe pro, bought it used and used it for a few months. Was a solid marker but I got some killer deals on a gtek (125$) and then a CS2 (800$)
Invert Mini was my first gun back in 2009,with 14" deathstix cf barrel, halo too and guerilla air tank.what a good old days😂
First tournament marker was an Angel LCD. And man the memes about British engineering were true because it would constantly break and I'd use my backup mechanical autococker half the time😆 . Eventually went to a Shocker NXT and was way better but the backup cocker was always reliable.
First tourney marker was a Geo 4 when they first came out. Had been using an etha 2, but wanted to upgrade. Absolutely loved that Geo!
Geo 4 is still such a good looking and shooting marker
I got myself a used Geo4 a couple of weeks ago, and it's like the Hand of God. It is designed to destroy the competition.
They have these small feed necks that make it easy for the hopper to fall off which happened to you at the worst time. Despite that, they’re solid markers. I got worked in my first 3 man tournament by some guys using mini’s. If you can win with a mini, you can win with a higher end gun.
List of my guns used in tournaments, Smart Parts ION, Invert Mini, PMR 7, Ego 07, Geo 08, Dye NT 11 Which was the last one I owned. Hoppers: Halo, Viewloader Eggy, Pinokio Hopper, and Rotor
My old autococker never did me wrong back in the day. Hard finding people to play nowadays, at least in my area.
The first tournament I played was unofficial, and I used a Sterling Bronze. Besides that, I only play for fun.
I have Mini GS that I mostly use as a loaner to show my friends what a difference an electronic marker makes compared to the rentals.
That said, I do have a pretty sick tournament gun... if it was 1988, and Constant Air was still banned in tournaments - phantom with an 8'' barrel drilled for inserts, 12g changer in the back, and a 40rd hopper - just the way the paintball gods intended.
First tournament was with a BBT autococker, first electro was a bushmaster b2k, first gun with eyes that i could actually rip on was the bob long intimidator 1st gen with the 2 lprs.
First marker I ever used in a tournament was in 2008, and I was using an Invert mini! At the time, my dad was competing in our home town in local tournaments, and one year, their first place prize was one of the new mini's in the red anodized color. My dad's team won, and I got to have his 1st place prize as my first electric marker. I loved it! We tore it up, taking first overall, I was 12 at the time!
I remeber my first electronic gun, it was a Tippmann 98 custom with the board upgrade. Did pretty well at the time in local tournaments, with my other playing partner rocking a Tippmann pro carbine
FPV was great to see the accuracy. Great info! Thanks
I used a warpfed Automag RTpro with a steel Boomstick for my first tournament. Its been a while. Im still running Automags at Fit's Mech X events, but with ULE everything and vertical feed these days.
Yeah this is the video I wanted to see, I just got a mini gs cause I'm getting a bit more serious for paintball but not pro level obviously. I can't wait to go out and use it.
My first tournament was with a mech Spyder back in 2000 or 2001. Got my ass whooped by Angels, Automags, and Cockers. 😂 Spyder did alright though. Polished the internals, got a high flow valve, delrin bolt, and a regulator. Half of us in the tourney were still using CO2.
Ahhhhh. I had the green se spyder se
Great video, but my only gripes are that the MIni GS comes with a very good quality Empire Driver barrel that does not need to be upgraded. And as far as efficiency, the Mini platform is an extremely efficient platform, getting 1500+ shots out of a 68ci is expected out of a Mini GS.
My first gun I used in a tournament was a tribal mephiesto or a tribal twister 2.2. Had a halo b for the hopper. I doubt many of yall have heard of that gun.
I used a Palmers Typhoon m, VL3000, and a 16oz tank for my first tournament.
That was 1995 and Oh Pawlak was still around.
Mine was a Sheridan pgp. Worked up to pro am, and used to practice to the New England Hurricanes. Sold my gear. Rebuilding a 2003 Sto autococker with full e1 electros. Hopefully ill play again
My first tourney gun was a all black ion w/ virtue board, carbon tank, and halo B w/rip drive. Man have things changed haha
Had the Same setup!
As long as it slings paint. Started with a mech Spyder TL-X, went into Intimidator and Marq series from Bob Long. My loves were the 06 and 07 Macdev Cyborgs though. Ever see that Silent Hill 07 Cyborg? That was mine before I moved on from the sport.
First gun was a Tippmann 98 Custom 15 long years ago... just got back into it bought a PE Gtek 180r what a difference lol. Great videos btw!
ION with a Halo Hopper -- Old Skool at SC Village
Old school baller here. Automag was my first. I played in the first ever paintball tournament in Toronto at the Skydome in 1998. World cup in orlando 2000.
I love watching videos of the skydome. Must have been so cool to play in there
First one was a local one with an NT11. Thing was sick but a tough maintenance puzzle. Last one was a Luxe OLED. Just getting back into it again though
First tourney play was with a Spyder VS2 with a Tadao board, low pressure reg, clamping feed neck and a Torque hopper
I used to play tourneys in the early 2000s. Back when the sport was relatively young. And, the two names on the field were the Autococker and AGD. 15 BPS was the standard then, at 300 FPS. Man, those were fun days. I remember Empire just coming on to the scene. We had drinking tournaments with Air America. We purposely placed 4th on a tourney on a saturday, so we could drink with execs from Empire Saturday night lol. Our team name was AFTICA-Another Fucking Thing I Cant Afford. And, we were a drinking team with a paintball problem.
Man, those were fun days!!!!
First gun I used in a tournament was a planet eclipse ETEK 4 LT in 2016. Ran that with a ninja 68/45 and an empire super freak barrel
The Rize CZR has the same tournament capabilities as the Mini gs and costs less. I get you probably have some deal with empire but you just simply can’t say “the cheapest tournament marker” because it’s not. 😃 Love the paintball vids!
It's $300 and the CZR is $380
I think the Rize CZR is a better entry level marker. Cleaner shot, much easier to maintain (don't have to take the trigger frame off to clean the eyes). I don't know how efficient the CZR is though. I assumed the mini GS was efficient because of its valve design but I guess not
Yea czr is most def the same price when i got mine new for 3 years ago or whenever about 400 after tax
Im 14 and me and my friend are really into paintball, we played our first tournament together at a local field and we both have Mini GSs. Perfect gun for beginner tournament players, worked great for us and my friend got a new mask when we won the tourney.
My first tourney marker was a JT Impulse. Absolutely loved it but unfortunately with it being discontinued I couldn't maintain it anymore with no parts kits available.
Classic 98 Automag was my first ever used Tournament wise. Then the Smart Parts ION with the Virtue Board was my ever first Electric marker. (Sound like a ChooChoo Train).
Never played a tourney but Axe 2.0 was my first electronic marker. I used to referee at a summer camp in high school but never owned my own marker, now at age 30 i go my local field once or twice a month to get wooped by kids, but its still a fun time and gets me excerise haha. Love your vids im finally a subscriber :)
First marker in a tournament...06 Ego at CFP Winter Series. Now known as Legacy Sports Park. We did win that one! Prize was 5 Proto Matrix markers
06 Ego was nice I'm sure
First gun I used in a tournament was a spyder hammer pump in a pump tournament. Absolutely the most difficult paintball I’ve ever played. Had to use a c02 tank cause it wouldn’t shoot over 240fps with hpa
First gun I used I'm comps was a spyder Electra, then a 2k3 eblade Blackmagic Autococker. That stupid little Electra saved my ass plenty of times in matches where I bumped the cocker a little too hard and threw off reg pressures.
Those old cockers were known to be finicky
The mini GS is a good marker but buy the AXE 2.0. And yeah the higher end markers perform a lot better but I will say when I was playing at my local field I was getting guys out and putting paint down field with no issues. In my opinion At the end of the day the marker is 1% to winning a gun fight. It’s about skill and outsmarting your opponent. So buy the mini GS and you can buy a Oled board and better bolt. I used mine for a while and when I use to play in 2013 and used one then. I would say the Axe series is the tried n true. It’s a good start n back up marker eventually I did upgrade to a shocker n a Geo 4
My first was a timpan A5 not speedball proto rail for speedball. My all
Time favorite I wanted to use was an angel fly or karnivor at the time. Now I wouldn’t even know what to use.
@@DanTheGolfer Proto Rail was so popular back in the day. It was my brother's first speedball gun too
@@MattTheGymRat it worked never had issues, had all the upgrades, dye UL frame, virtue board and eyes, empire hopper with the rf chip. Loved it I miss paintball. Az in my area at least it died.
The first paintball marker I ever bought and used to play in some games was a spyder pilot ACS. I kinda liked that marker
Mini Gs with a Halo B. Now that’s old skool🤘
I have an empire mini gs, what different barrels can I put on it?
Look at lone Wolf. I would recomend a 3 piece barrel like the Freak XL
2:05 good lord, a macdev droid I think lol. Used a Axe, GEO 3.5, Vanquish, ETEK 5, CS1, CSR, LV 1.1, GEO 4, and potentially CS3 if I ever get out and do it again. Mech tourneys I've used a Resurrection, DSR+, and EMEK(s).
I have a mini gs myself and I love it. I’m new to paintball and I’m really wanting to play tournament paintball. I just don’t have a team. I’ve been to fields as a walk-on but I’d love to be a team.
my first gun was a tippmann 98 custom, then i got a ion when they first dropped and played a few back yard tourneys. was so much fun. In 2008 i i bought a dye dm6 and played with that till i stopped at the end of the summer of 08 due to a broke foot. i like to get a lv2 as my next marker
I’m buying my first paintball marker next week and I’m going for the DYE rize CZR, am I making a good choice?
2006 my first tournament was an 05 Spyder Electra. Little did I know, rocking triggers were illegal (whoops). Luckily they let me play but told me the refs would be monitoring my speed, and I ended up swapping the trigger before my next tournament lol
Can’t wait to watch this vid later!!
LETS GET 200K SUBS CMON GUYS
Let me know what you think when you watch it bro!
@@MattTheGymRatPretty good video my man! Loving the thumbnails too! It was a good thing to watch before I finished my essay!
and I wish I could play for a team lol
I don’t feel like a team would take a young player like me though. (I’m a good snake player though 😉)
My first marker was the empire axe pro great marker, but when it was rainy or cold, the marker would not shoot. My favorite and dangerous marker was the dye m2 Mosair, but one o-ring always came out. I now shoot a planet eclipse etek 5 had a guy tune it, and now I can just drop on players' heads instead of shooting straight to the bunker. I would drop it on the heads or podpacks.
First marker I used in tourney was a Circa 2002 Spyder Java edition. The purple beast. Haha it made for some fun times. It had a surprisingly great factory 14". Then....I bought a teardrop for it. Absolute laser.
First tournament gun technically was a Tippmann 98 custom for my 2 man local field. Then I got into speedball with an ion when they were the big “entry gun”. I was shooting a DP threshold when the sport kinda dried up in my area. And yes. I am old.
First marker I ever used in a tournament was a loaner dye dm4 silver/cobalt fade. Fun fact, it belonged to Pricedollaz who donated the prize package to our previous giveaway. Probably around 2005
First tournament I ever played in was a 3 man woodsball amateur tournament back in 2004. Used a tippmann 98.
Have never played in a tournament (really would love to) but own a PE Gtek 160r with an upgraded pop asa had it for a few years and would love to use it in a tournament
First I ever used was a system x cocker, promptly switched to the sp ion
The Ion was so the go to for budget markers back in the 2000's
I remember the originally mini would cut your finger off if you had your finger in the breach when you shot it 😂 I'd imagine that has been fixed in newer versions.
@@Slapsamillion I have had people tell me that so I hope the same is true and it's been fixed 🤣
Here is my tournament marker timeline: Icon > Ion > DM5 > Ego7
Have not played in so many years and am planning to hit the fields again soon!! The difference between the Ion and the Ego was like comparing a fake Gibson Les Paul to the real deal. The overall quality was like night and day. The budget markers still rip though
Thanks for a great video
Why do you think the air efficency you were getting or think you would have gotten is so much different than the Lone Wolf Paintball efficency tests (they have used it in a couple comparison vids) where they get 9 to 10 pods off a 68/4500 tank? not saying your wrong just, more just curious. Like should i always assume real world usage is going to be 10-20% lower than test like theirs claim when in real world usage?
great video tho, the mini is defintely a small/cramped feeling marker. had an Invert Mini for a little bit and switched back to my ion when i was in jr high, hated how cramped it was back then so I can't imagine how much worse it would be now.
smart parts ion!
First gun I used was a Shocker XLS that I got as a graduation gift in 2020. I miss it a lot tbh
First marker ever purchased lol... brass eagle pump.
Next marker Spyder Imagine... more lol.
Next marker was the Odyssey RPM... lol. (first used in a non official tournament)
Next ICD Promaster, surprisingly not lol. Was an excellent marker for the time. (first used in an official tournament)
Next was a Bobo Long Intimidator and an Ego and a DM7... had them all at the same time. (used in the divisions).
What a time that was.
What division are you playing in?
This was a D4 tournament but you were allowed a pro player on the team.
Nice! D3-D4 is where I hovered before I quit. Every video I see makes me wanna pick it back up@@MattTheGymRat
@@DaultonJackson it's calling your name 👀
First tournament level gun I used was the smart parts impulse! Good times man. Wanna get back into it now
First gun I ever used in a tournament was a Spyder Pilot ACS back in like 06-07. We made it to the top 18 out of 20 teams. Yeet
Is the Dye M2 a good gun? Getting back into and and I can a good deal on one.
Man I started with the Spyder with the rocking trigger before I switched to a Dye DM5
yoooooo i knew it!!! finally got the chance to watch it lol I remember using the OG INVERT mini and it was awesome lol
I just played my first tournament about 1 week ago, as a 14 year old, and the marker i used is the dm 9. Sadly our team didnt even get close to winning, but it was a hella good experience.
Also i absolutely love the marker, out of all the other markers that ive tried, like other dms, or planet eclipse markers like the cs 1, or cs 2, it felt the best, in my opinion. Yes it doesnt have eletric screens or new fancy features, but it feels very comfortable, and shoots very accurately, and sounds so clean. But thats my opinion.
a right feed cocker made out of spare parts...body and barrel were the only "new" bits. 97' i believe
First marker for me was bob long marq 6 in 2010... I still have that bad boy, it still shoots ropes!
You may have mentioned it in the video but can this run as a mechanical gun too? I apologize if I missed it in the video.
My first tourney gun was a 2002 WGP auto cocker. Used that for a while and went to the proto matrix 2005.
First tournament was back in 2008 I think. 3 man event. I played with a smart parts ion and Halo B loader.
My first gun was a Tippman 98c. Then a pre 2k side feed auto cocker. My third gun was a smart parts ion. 4th gun was an 05 ego. We won a few guns that I never shot at tournaments. Ended up with one of the 2k Timmy’s in my bag somehow or another. Then I enlisted in the military and never played again…. 😢
i shot my vanguard creed in my first 3 man back in the day lol im surprised axe pro wasnt mentioned as its right in the price range
First gun I used in a tournament was an OG Invert mini. Yes. The mini was originally made by a company called Invert.
It was still empire, that was just their new brand they sold different styled gear as
I got my hands on a cheap very good DYE m2 as my first marker.
My first tournament. I used my cs2. But my first electric marker was a mini GS
Had a good marker for you first tourney for sure
First marker was a inverted mini back in 08 man i was excited when my pops said lets go check out some paintball guns. I remember the day like it was yesterday shit i was ecstatic. I was currently running a 170r until it got ripped off a few weeks ago at my local field, set it down on our table came back after getting a box of paint for the crew and it was gone. A new guy was there that day we all think it was him never saw him again. Sucks but im saving for a 180 or cs not sure yet. What you think matt??
First gun I used in a tournament was a Spyder Shutter back in the late 90's / early 2000's. Cant remember exactly, 20+ years ago.
Question I’m new and just wondering what was the minor penalty’s for?
I got shot in the pod pack and started shooting my gun.
1st marker owned: Empire Mini 1st Tourney: Planet Eclipse Ego 8
1st marker when i got grown up money: Planet Eclipse Geo 4, CS2 (Project G) and LV2 all at once unfortunately lol more markers than i had hands
My first gun was a bob long dragon intimidator bought it when I was 12 years old on eBay through a payment plan. It is a treasure but I can’t use the old girl anymore needs to be just a collectors price so I’ll probably pick up this gun.
First gun was a czr in a msxl 3 man would have loved to have a shocker or a etha just for how easy it is to maintain
My first marker was the mini gs I loved it and got a cs2 for a better turnny marker but had my mini as a back up because it was a good reliable back up after a injury I sold my cs2 and kept the mini and I’m getting back into it and wanna get a luxe idol or the cs3 which one should I go with
I’m new to paintball you should do a video on paintball terms when your saying bravo 20 and other terms like that
First gun I ever used in a tournament was a Tippman Prolite
My first tournament was an autococker and AT-10 by tagline sports (first full auto chain fed mag from thr 90s) followed up by a mephisto (bushmaster clone i think) and by tournament 3 of the season i was rockihg am 98 Angel SE (somehow got a great deal on a broken one that I fixed)
First paintball gun I use in a tournament was in a tournament and it was a Tippmann gryphon
First marker PE Etek 2 then a DM5, then a 10 year break followed by a 170r, now a LV2.
