To all the residents in Alabama who suffered in any way due to this disaster, I'm apologizing for all the inhuman comments that were made on this site and you are all in my prayers.
This is great footage.. I live 100 miles away and we started seeing debris 40 mins or so from the Ttown tornado.. A sprite can, insulation, shingles.. Newspapers, cardboard.. It's crazy. I'm dreading morning. My prayers go out to anyone affected by these tornados..:(
@thecadillacman100 Amazing footage. It is so sad to really know how quickly life can be obliterated. Why do we forget that? I live in Central North Carolina and never had I seen so much devastation the weekend before last--until now. We are again in the path of potential destruction. Please pray for us, as we are for you. To the rescue workers, and those who have jumped into the fray lending a helping hand to the victims; God bless your courage.
To this day this remains the only tornado I have seen up close in person with my own two eyes. As scary as the video is, I can assure you it was five times as scary in real life.
I cannot even imagine what it looked and sounded like in person. The roar is already so loud/deafening on video, I can't even imagine it in real-time. All the suction vortices this tornado produced also made it appear as if it were grabbing, throwing, and smacking things around. It looked like a Kraken straight out of hell.
Only 66 tornados hit in West Allis and none by my trailer house I grew up in and so far here at Land Mark apartments but we get tornado watches and the warnings but only 66 have hit in West Allis by me but did not hit or touch down each place I live Thank God for that ! I only had recalled the one that hit like 13 blocks from where I lived in 1975 and I was 19 and am 65 now ! We could and have had them but not any where I lived ! I am very thankful ! I cant recall the other 65 tornados as none never touched down where I lived !
@GraysonTheMan12 My heart hurts for you and everyone affected by this tragic storm. I have been volunteering as much as I can! Just know help is there and still coming. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and everyone in the great state of Alabama. God Bless you.
@TigerIPanzer actually, a tornado is caused when warm air currents a cold air currents going straight at each other collide and they both go spiraling upwards and downwards.
Great footage, I really feel for the victims of this tornado, my gf lives not too far from Birmingham, I know that's a ways from Tuscaloosa but it's scary...
I love how something that awesome is going on and people on road just keep driving almost like nothing happening I mean the vehicles are in no hurry lol
@MRWHG17 I am sorry you feel this way,i will pray for you along with everyone that has be involved in this terrible tornado...My prays are with all of you
I can't believe all of these people who are writing hurtful things on this video.. I live in Alabama and the tornado went right over my city. It was the scariest thing I have ever been through!
This is where I live. Where I was born. Where I drive. Almost everyone I know is dead. They were at a place unknown during this storm and died. The reason it is unknown because where they live was nowhere around where they found them. /: People that was NOT hit by this tornado including me aren't lucky.. We're blessed because this tornado touched down up across the road from where I stay.. And i'm not dead or injured at least. Keep your head up Bama. It'll be okay.
@dragonridley Thanks for the input. Its May 1st here in St. Louis its 48 degrees and raining again. Horrible weather. My car sustained hail damage from a few weeks ago. My State Farm agent cut me a check for $3650.00! I was flabbergasted. The hail was a little bigger than quaters but smaller than a golf ball.
@johnh23 There were 312 tornados in a 24 hour period. Over 350 in all, and that number is low because when they announced that all areas had not been surveyed
@Becca824200 It was a big tornado 1.5 mile diameter. They were atleast 5-10 miles away from it. But 60-something people did die from that single tornado.
@SuperTJ1999 thx bro atleast someone can be mature about it all . . i lost so many friends and i saw 4 tornadoes circle around my town for like 10 mins once i was outside after it passed :( thx again
Can we please not talk about the end of the world and all that? Many people have lost their lives. We should pray for all the people that have died or for everyone that have been injured or families that have had their lives ruined.
That's what a lot of people have always wondered. I think there was a little professional jealousy taking place. Dr Greg Forbes, who's been involved in tornado research since the early '70s, toured the 80 mile damage path. In his opinion it was definitely an EF5. I mean more than 80 miles of total devastation. Enter God, I mean Tim Marshal. He was probably irritated that some inexperienced scoundrel (Forbes) would dare steal his thunder. He had a problem though. If he had declared the tornado as an EF4 he would have been laughed out of his office so he called it a "high end EF4" which is only a couple of mph difference from an EF5. Petty, yes. Problem solved, yes.
There's no doubt it was an EF5. The midwest powers that be were trying to limit the number of EF5s in this outbreak and succeeded. This tornado did catastrophic damage for more than 80 miles. In addition to the devastation in Tuscaloosa, the tornado crossed Hurricane Creek, it tore apart a large steel railroad trestle, and a 34-ton (74,957 lb) steel truss support structure was thrown 100 ft (30 m) up on a nearby hill (EF5). About 60 miles later, the storm was still powerful. As the tornado moved across a coal yard in this area, a 35 ton (78,925 lb) coal car was thrown 391 ft (119 m) through the air (EF5). Past the coal yard, numerous homes and several industrial warehouses were completely destroyed in McDonald Chapel.[17] Numerous homes, apartment buildings, vehicles, and a large church were then destroyed as the tornado entered Birmingham's city limits and impacted the neighborhood of Pratt City. Most tornadoes rarely have more than a few miles of high end damage. If the F scale was still in use, B-ham/Tuscaloosa, Shoal Creek, Bridgeport, Cordova, Cullman, Flat Rock/Higdon in Alabama, Ringgold in Georgia, New Harmony in Tennessee and Enterprise in Mississppi undoubtedly would have received F5 ratings. Conversely about half of the F5 tornadoes in 1974 would have failed the strenuous requirements of today's EF system. So instead of ten EF5, a weasel was able to shrink that number to a hilarious four. In 1974, an F5 rating was given to just about any building that was destroyed. In 2011 in the South, if they thought a screw may have been missing from a building, no matter how horrendous the damage, it was given a lower rating. The royalty in norman oklahoma had been raking in billions of dollars in government money to study tornadoes. Some Southern states, particularly Alabama was trying to get some of that cash for studies in the Southeast where most KILLER tornadoes take place. As the outbreak progressed, the royalty new Alabama and probably Tennessee and Georgia would renew their requests for a fair share of the pie. To try to minimize the damage to their kingdom, they sent their top weasel on a mission to make sure that didn't happen and he did it successfully.
@Colton6977 Not all of tuscaloosa was hit by the tornado. Most of my family lives there and thankfully they are all okay and some have power..others dont. It just depends where in Tuscaloosa you live. As for how he is on youtube..he could have power and a computer, or have nothing but a cell phone.
"Jesus help me please" is right!!!! This must've been so scary for you. I'm so sad for all the people hurt and the families of those who lost their lives. God help us all.
@paulus1st HE PROMISED CHANGE! But at what cost!? Joking aside, we need to keep working together. It's great seeing such unity, despite such tragic circumstances
@ghst123456 you probably misunderstood the message. so many people always search "a reason to live". Just accept that there is no specific reason. Just live your life as you want to and stop asking senseless questions. People asking for a reason to live are probably depressive, cause their life seems to be empty. They dont see their very personal "reason" (kids, friends, fun, money, sway, research.... what ever).
If I was there, I would NOT be taping it. Well, maybe cause its really cool! Anyway I'd be in a ditch rockin back and forth praying and singing gospel music!
@albrq333 Sir, how can you make such a statement without any evidence? God does punish those who sin (but he still loves the sinner) even you understand that. However, we cannot speculate natural disasters as God showing his anger towards us, unless it was stated clearly in the Bible or the Quran (according to your faith). Which it doesn't in the Bible. Furthermore, wouldn't it be more affective to be empathetic to those who are hurting bc of this situation than to say "this is what you get?"
To all the residents in Alabama who suffered in any way due to this disaster, I'm apologizing for all the inhuman comments that were made on this site and you are all in my prayers.

After loosing everything I owned in Hurricane Katrina I can relate to the devastation that mother nature can inflict.
God Bless
Are there sirens in Tuscaloosa?

Please re post the full video. Watching the full movement of this tornado is amazing. These segments don't do it justice.
that person thats just genuinely walking across the street at 0:46 is a legend
bro gives 0 fucks
What happened to the raw unedited 8 minute version of this video? It was the
whole video. I had it last night. Now it says it's 'private'.
OMG. I can't believe cars are still driving! Are they crazy?!
I'm so devastated by this. I grew up there.
Is it common for people to keep on driving buy, or stop to watch a tornado over there? I've watched a couple videos and it seems to be a trend.
WOW
Great coverage
This is amazing and terrifying footage.... O_O
YO GO MARINTA.....You have hit the nail right on the head....I thank you SO much for this song!
Courageous and dangerous work, John Brown, nice going! I commend you.
A perfect demonstration of mother nature. The classic wedge.
@jackstrawfrmwchta That is so uncalled for. Hunreds of folks lost their lives!!!

was this a ef5.
Great footage, I really feel for the victims of this tornado, my gf lives not too far from Birmingham, I know that's a ways from Tuscaloosa but it's scary...
Whenever a tornado has octopus arms (vortices), I consider it to be a “dead man walking”.
I love how something that awesome is going on and people on road just keep driving almost like nothing happening I mean the vehicles are in no hurry lol
F5 tornado?

@jimfrankmartin47 Are you referring to my response to FatB00?
OMG,what are the little tornados going sideways/
This EF5 and the one in Mississippi, look almost identical. Also behave identical. Thats insane!
I can't believe all of these people who are writing hurtful things on this video.. I live in Alabama and the tornado went right over my city. It was the scariest thing I have ever been through!
most of my family members where down in Arab Alabama so, I hope that like most of my family everyone made it safely from that major tornado wave...

Wonder how far away this person was taking the video from the tornado? I would be miles and miles away from that thing.
Sending positive vibrations to Tuscaloosa

this one was devastating but the one from parkersburg ia in 2008 was a freaking monster
it's a F4 no?
@MrGhostblood Finally someone who knows what they are talking about.
all of this server tornado storm crap we been haveing lately is uncalled for i never seen such destructive weather in a long time
@juliedawn02 i live in MS and we got all of this yesterday. Be blessed
@wpwildcat10 So what if you know where I live? What you gonna do about it?
Wow. What a monster of a tornado!
that thing is growing arms! wow
this makes me want to cry thinking about all the people effected by this. :(
I can only imagine what the drivers on the highway are thinking.... Speed limit signs would no longer exist to me
@SuperTJ1999 thank you so much
hope the city recovers fast from this. opposites always mix violently, hot and cold = destruction. so sad.
@Becca824200 It was a big tornado 1.5 mile diameter. They were atleast 5-10 miles away from it. But 60-something people did die from that single tornado.
great video
I think I would die from fear seeing something like that.
breathtaking
so this was toastednoodle was talking about. MAN ITS HUGE!!
Wrong tornado bud, the one you’re looking for is the Hackleburg/Phil Campbell tornado.
Somewhere in that tornado is a turtle wishing it could fly...Wish granted.
all those tornados were crazy, hope everything has gone back to normal since then. Wis we had better ones here in the UK, would love to see one
people died bro It's not good to have tornadoes. I doubt those people in US were wishing for their arrival 😅😅
@@thureintun1687 no shit, totally taken out of context
@@OurAbandonedWorld what happened? you ok?
I'm just joking
@@thureintun1687 are you okay ?

It's almost as if all those people driving by don't see the thing.
@pcs56 Special domed shape and inner structure will protect it from wind blast, concrete shell will protect it from debris.
I'm wanting to move to Oklahoma when I'm older, but if the tornadoes there are always ranging to an F5, I probably won't move there
@SuperTJ1999 thx bro atleast someone can be mature about it all . . i lost so many friends and i saw 4 tornadoes circle around my town for like 10 mins once i was outside after it passed :( thx again
@ghst123456
What did Thomas Jefferson mean when he talked about "Nature's God" in the Declaration of Independence?
One thumbs down for the poorly placed water mark. Could have been phenomenal with out that.
That is very tragic and horrible. All I said was the stadium. Not anyone in it.
Can we please not talk about the end of the world and all that? Many people have lost their lives. We should pray for all the people that have died or for everyone that have been injured or families that have had their lives ruined.
f4?
Why was this tornado officially rated only an EF4? The sound of it is worse than some F5's and EF5's. It sounds much worse than the Joplin, MO EF5.
