The white noise of a hair dryer at home can be a very relaxing and sleep inducing listening experience for you or your baby. I recorded this by standing next to my binaural microphone rig and aiming the hair dryer at it's ears, blowing back and forward to simulate a real hair drying action. I edited the audio and video in Adobe Premiere. Hair dryer white noise and other similar house sounds are great for masking unwanted external sounds, which makes them the perfect ally for study, sleep, stress relief and meditation.

I knew there are normal hair dryer sounds but this is the first one with moving sounds and its a really different feeling, i swear i can feel hot air sometimes, im going to bed now with this, absolutly loving it ! :)

Its funny that its only been the last few years that the Science of the Human Brain has finally understood what most of us have known for years.... I'm 48 and since I was a little kid I had sleep issues, just trying to shut down from the day. My Mom first saw that when I was really little that if she ran the vacuum I would take a nap and sleep solid the entire time... Then as I became a little older say age 5, Saturday night was bath night... I would use a Bonnet hair dryer and would fall asleep under it every time... Then I noticed as I got older again, I slept better during the Hotter months due to either the Air conditioner or a box fan being on... As a teenager I took it upon myself to look at it closer and would run static (white Noise) through my stereo speakers at night and continued that through college. While in college I had an opportunity to do a paper on this in my Child Psychology class. Thats where I discovered 2 things ! 1, I wasn't alone ! 2 That it actually works ! Since then through the use of the internet and youtube I have found so many of these outlets... Out of all of them I still come back to the Hair Dryer lol Its like that old shoe, it fits just right and always does the job... Thanks Soundsbuds ! I will continue to enjoy your posts !

Francesco Calabrese I know, right? This video helped me to understand that I actually have a SMR. I always thought that it was really weird that when I heard certain sounds I would get all these really weird tingly feelings over my scalp in the back of my neck. I love the sound of hair brushing, drops of water like showers or rain hitting concrete, and recording’s of streams with a lot of stereo phonic detail so that you can tell what’s going on over each individual channel. It’s better than a massage. LOL!

y don't anyone make the sound when the sprinklers at a kids playground hits the floor. when I was younger I was sitting at the park behind my building at night & the sights & sounds had me amazed. it looks so beautiful watching the street light hit the water like glitter & the sound. omg. it give me child just to think about it. I always get the chills with the rite sound & look. it took me back to a memory when I was 3 or 4. I couldn't believe I remembered this. how at the same park my aunt took me there at night & I fell asleep cold in her lap. idk y people don't do this. the shower is nice but it's not hitting the pavement hard. the harder & louder the better.

Hey CJ, this is exactly what I was looking for! The sound is not monotous and the moving effect of the hairdryer makes it more real! I can relax better now! I have a request. Would you do a video about a vacuum cleaner sound which has various rythm, changes of speed and stereo-effect and volume? A one or two hour Video should be enough ^^. That would be amazing!!! The vacuum cleaner sounds I found so far are not really relaxing me. Also, would you mix your own sounds, like a monotone one with one of the rhythmic one, and overlay them and upload them? I really need such a combination on my mp3 player when I am commuting to work on public transportation! And, while I am on the roll with requests, would you do a soundvideo about plane take offs? I used to live for a while near an international airport and I miss the different sounds of the airplanes taking off. Thank you!
Well I don't know about plane take-offs but I can most definitely do a moving vacuum cleaner one. I actually already recorded one but the hard drive I stored it on corrupted. I'll have to redo it soon because the vacuum cleaner recording is getting a lot of views! I feel the same way about the rhythmic sounds. :3

Out of mere curiosity, how and when did you guys notice your affinity for White Noise for the first time ?
I was a very active swimmer at a very young age (swimming certificate in silver age 6) and my grandma used to drive me to training and competitions. Every time after a long training session she would plug the hairdryer into the socket and when she started drying my hair i was gone instantly, literally gone. It was like somebody flicked his fingers and everything around me disapperead and i fell asleep sitting almost every time or at least was totally benumbed and in a zenlike state.
So, I am not the only freak after all...

Just in case anyone doesn't know, this kind of video with the "moving sounds" is called binarual. :)
this would suit surround sound so you get the in front and behind effects too, as that would generate an effect to a first time listener of mind fuckery (don't really know a simpler phrase that's suitable for all ages, but if they have a vivid imagination, it truly would be like that), which helps increase the relaxation sensation to realistic effect
Yeah it's perfect for getting that 'in the moment' feeling. Kind of bizzare the first time you experience it. There's a whole section of UA-cam dedicated to the tingly relaxed feeling you get listening to certain pieces of audio like this called "ASMR". Check it out if you haven't seen/ heard it yet! ;)
