What Saint-Saëns thought of hearing Liszt perform the Legend (from Alan Walker's "Franz Liszt, Vol. 3: The Final Years", page 98): "I already thought of him as a genius, and had formed in advance an almost impossible conception of piano playing...As I write I see again that long pale face casting seductive glances at his audience while from beneath his fingers, almost uncosciously, and with an astonishing range of nuances, there murmured, surged, boomed, and stormed the waves of the Legend of St. Francis of Paule walking on the waters. Never again shall we see or hear anything to compare with it."
This is not the first time I've seen you quote another of Liszt's contempories or himself. I love to read them as they give you a glimpse into a world now forever unretrievable. Do you find these in books or just by surfing the net?

I actually quite like Hamelin's live recording as well as this one - different to Cziffra's for sure, but I still found it to be quite moving. I think Hamelin adheres more faithfully to Liszt's pedal markings than Cziffra. Still, I can't say that I dislike what Cziffra does - because it sounds amazing, but I can see why Hamelin does it differently. I may be too ecumenical here, but I genuinely love both performances. :)
Это не очень деликатно сравнивать индивидуальное исполнение пианистов, это говорит о том ,что вы предвзято относитесь к одному из них. Цифра просто неповторим,они разные .

Thanks for sharing this quote and the legende.

That's probably the same feeling for us while listening this interpretation of Cziffra!

Best comment I've ever seen
After listening to this piece, I am convinced that Liszt is Légende No.1 for me.
*Good one lol*
If only Liszt and Cziffra had met.
Yes, great idea!
They have.
@@janvanrooyen8916 yes they were quite close friends actually, liszt mentored cziffra when he was still young and living in hungary
@@yovow7839 How??? Wasn't Cziffra born after Liszt died?

It is grandiose. I think Cziffra is a God of technique. Bravo and thank you.

Bravo brilliance music
There exists a recording of this piece in an Erard piano for which liszt wrote it; a splendid sound.
Liszt, in his subtle way.

Best scale exercise ever composed.
