Rocking the CatSynth t-shirt! Thanks 😻 I also find Ives an interesting subject - I had an elective class devoted entirely to him and his music when I was studying music at Yale (quite appropriate),
Very interesting! Clearly someone I need to get more familiar with. Nice shirt! Have various CDs with Amanda Chaudhary in the shelf and see there's a Nubdug Ensemble one I need to explore. Cheers, Richard
Hi Richard! I forgot to mention my favorite Ives quote: "Beauty in music is too often confused with something that lets the ear lie back in an easy chair." Thanks for watching!

Hey Michael, Great vid. I thought I was the biggest Ives fan in the VC, maybe you have surpassed me -I have about 20+ of his LPs. He and I both ended up in the life insurance business - he said he didn't want his family "to starve on his dissonances!"
This wa fabulous Michael and I hope others will watch this and enjoy I as much as I did. I liked the sound of his music. The piece with footsteps was great. I need to look into that Ives Beginner music album lol. Still cracks me up he had a great career in insurance. I had never heard of this guy and you got two books on him, wow
Michael, I am really falling behind. I just got the 100th anniversary box set 2 years ago! I have focused mostly on his piano works, so the symphonies are new to me. Thanks, Chris
Hi Chris! Ooh, THANK YOU for reminding me of that 100th anniversary box. I definitely should track that down. It has amazingly almost no overlap with what I already own on vinyl. Cheers!
Michael, Frank Zappa sent me a personal invitation to '' The Charles Ives Memorial Barbecue'', the menu looks mouth-watering and Eric Dolphy, Cecil Taylor and Milford Graves are going to provide the live music. They are scheduled to perform a new trio piece written by Edgard Varese. I turned down the invitation, I want to go to Heaven, but not on October 20, 2024. I just bought a John Adams cd, it contains a composition titled, '' My Father Knew Charles Ives'', my version of the piece is on the Nonesuch imprint. I love the connection between Charles Ives, Henry Cowell and John Cage. I actually discovered the music of Cage, first, then the works of Ives and finally the amazing compositions of Henry Cowell. I understand the reason why Fred Frith chose the name Henry Cow! ( even though band members claim the band name has no connection to the composer's name). Bruce Hornsby's hit song, ''Every Little Kiss'' uses a direct quote from Ive's masterwork, ''The Concord Sonata''. I remember that Signe Anderson died on the same day as Paul Kantner.
Hi Michael! 2016 was really a rough year, with so many important musical figures going up to that Big Barbecue in the Sky. Signe Anderson and Paul Kantner passing away on the same day was so bizarre. I knew Signe had been sick, and I had sent her a small contribution to help with medical bills and got a lovely thank you card. Thanks as always for watching--cheers!
I'm afraid I can't remove that timing strip without ruining the cover. Thanks for stopping by--I think this is going to be one of my least-watched videos!
It would seem you are experienced in the music of Mr. Ives. I always find Ives safe as milk and loaded with fresh cream. By the way, I turn 150 next March😂🤣. The cake will be something to see🤣😂
A fire hazard indeed! You know, those were all supposed to be debut albums in the background, but I realized too late that I'd pulled the wrong Nice album--wait, no I didn't. My mind is gone. Thanks for watching!
So great, Michael! I had only heard "The Unanswered Q..." but now I will dig deeper thanks to you...😊//Michael the Swede
Hi Michael--Enjoy your digging! Thanks for watching!

I took a course on Ives myself at UCSD! That's when I got the books. Thanks for watching!

Great primer I don’t get to see his records to often in Australia

Thanks Steve, so glad you enjoyed it. I did take a course on Ives in college, which is where those books were from. Cheers!

I thought you are going to rip that strip off from the cover. Nicely curated video.

Thank you this is awesome. You should be a lecturer at a university, and I mean that as a compliment. Maybe Yale :-)
Very kind of you to say! Thanks for watching!
