Hey Suresh, thanks for your encouragement. I’m happy that you got out of your situation. There are many people who desperately want to get out, but have no support whatsoever
This is totally unacceptable! These kinds of people need urgent attention and help from the government. It is good that Shabna is highlighting this family’s plight. This is twenty first century poverty in oil rich Guyana.

Why is the government not paying attention to all the poor people in Guyana...it is a disgrace the way some people have to live...with all that oil money?give me a break..shame on the government
Hello to you Shabna, Thank you for this video. I along with my two brothers and two sisters and mother were in this same situation growing up in Georgetown. We left Guyana in 1982 thanks to my grandparents and uncles and aunts in Canada. I look at this young lady's kids and they remind me of my siblings and myself. Please let me know how I can help them. Thank you.

Thanks for highlighting this woman’s plight. It’s true most of us have no idea how the very poor live. I hope that their situation improves soon. I will certainly help in whatever way I can. Maybe you can get the Ministry of Housing involved? Or someone from the government
Thank you Nisa. I think we can all play a part to help make their lives better. That area is not the right place for them to live, so first the government can help to find somewhere to relocate them
Income and wealth inequality have always existed in Guyana, no matter who governs PPP or PNC. It is also a trend in world (inequality is the number reason for poverty - One report from the World Bank estimates that the climate crisis has the power to push millions into poverty over the next decade). Most of the Oil money in Guyana goes to the riches 1.5 percent in the country or shareholders who live abroad. In fact, the 1 percent Billionaires in the world actually own 75 percent of the World Wealth overall. All of these causes of inequality are within the power of the Guyanese government to put right. Honest living by Government officials including the President and a simple tax system which doesn't pander to one set of people would definitely fix both wealth and income inequalities. The government needs to analyze their subsidy who really benefiting from it. For example, the Berbice Bridge was actually built by public-private partnership and shareholders. Subsidy does not benefit the farmers nor cane-cutter. I am so disappointed with both PPP and PNC Govt. Many Indians still remain farmers, fisherman, gardeners and cane cutters not forgetting the Indigenous people no accountability for them. The government needs to offer programs in education and job creation to give people the tools they need to end poverty. Government should implement Affordable housing and transportation which can be the start of the reduction of the widening gap between the rich and poor. Public education is vital to increase skilled labor. The split between rich and poor requires to be filled closely for the better functioning of the People of Guyana. Thank You for uploading this video.

It's so sad to see what you're highlighting on your shows. However, I DON'T know or understand why some of these people DON'T try and improve their lives. There's so many jobs in Guyana, BUT it seems like these people want the job to come to their convenience. Guyana is blooming with so many opportunities. WE'RE looking at your shows and wondering how this person has been living in this condition for the past 9 years. The children are younger than 9 years old. So how can THEY choose to raise a family in THAT condition. It's ridiculous 😒

@The Shabna Show that's great to hear. I'm assuming if you DIDN'T air her way of living. She would probably be in the same situation. I think that it's good that you're showing how some people choose to live. I also believe that many people are just lazy and looking for handouts. Guyana is becoming like North America. The food industries are booming. With ALL the fast foods, KFC, Burger King, and now Starbucks is ONLY a way for more people to become more lazy. I DON'T know how people are able to afford to pay for these less nutritious foods. There is nothing like the old-fashioned days. I have been living in Canada for 41 years plus. Even though I have everything here, my choice of eating is my home cooked Guyanese foods. Fast foods are something that I MAY purchase once every few months.
