On Twitter, I frequently see music-themed accounts ask, "What singer is so unique that you recognize their voice from the opening two or three notes, regardless of what song it is?" My answer is always, "Julianne Petersen." 🙂
Hi Emma. I'm glad you like this song. I love it, both the original and this wonderful version by our fantastic band. Maybe some people don't consider it a Christmas song. But, in my case, it's becoming the soundtrack of this Christmas!
Absolutely Beautiful, beautiful vocals from Julianne and amazing harmonies from Katie and Ellen, and awesome playing from the rest of the Petersens and Emmett
OMG, went for a lunchtime stroll in downtown Tauranga NZ where I live the other day and walked by Bay Court (music venue) and almost fell over when I saw the billboard sign that The Petersens were coming in Feb 2025!!! And with Mark Mazengarb (a local lad), I didn't think that you all would ever come this way, tickets purchased, can[t wait! Bring the summer gears and make sure you try to fit in a walk around Mount Maunganui and grab some brunch along the ocean front! AWESOME!!!!
LOVE THE OPENING BASS & THE 3 OF YOU MAKE THE PERFECT ONE VOICE! You all need to more as a trio singing. Individually your voices are so good, but together you make perfect harmony!!!
I think the choice of this Fleet Foxes song is definitely very appropriate, even as a Christmas proposal. I really like the song and I love the way it was arranged in a "Caribbean" style. Julz is definitely in perfect shape in singing it with his unique and unmistakable voice and, together with Ellen and Katie, they form a celestial harmonic trio! Katie's solos are precious and blend magnificently with Emmett's dobro and the Latin/rhythmic base of the other instruments is also really good. The "Deck The Halls" tune played on the banjo is really a surprise! Finally, a special mention to Mamma for the intro with her double bass! I will never tire of saying that, every time, you create something particularly unique in rearranging the covers you choose to play! 👍❤
Wow! as im typing Please Come To Australia, i see your tickets availble in description. Got my tickets right away, I have wanted to see you guys for years!!
My wife and I really enjoyed your Charlotte Christmas concert especially the addition of Mr Petersen to the group. Look forward to seeing you next year in the Carolinas. Hope your family have a Merry Christmas. God bless.
Absolutely beautiful arrangement - love the way you play with the original and weave Deck the Halls in! As for the outro and Rowdy's reaction - so much for horse sense, at least when it comes to music.
I agree that Julianne's voice is unique. And that the entire group is massively talented. I disagree however that bluegrass music needs to be brought back to life. Bluegrass is alive, has always been so, and will continue to live.
This is just such an amazing melody, wonderful instruments very well played, and beautiful voices ❤️ from my favorite band!!! I cant wait to go see you all again. Thank you so much for your gifts! Merry Christmas!

The song was released as a single and included in the band’s debut album with the same title “Fleet Foxes” in 2008. Both the single and the album received important public and critical acclaim and international awards. The lyrics of the song are not easy to interpret, but they should symbolize some memories of Pecknold when, as a teenager, he hung out with a group of friends of the same age (the pack) who, over the years, found themselves following different paths with the progressive loss of childhood innocence. Among the covers I want to point out the one by Pentatonix, a cappella vocal group, who included White Winter Hymnal in their 2014 album “That's Christmas to Me”. I had never heard this song before, so I decided to listen to all the covers out there, including the original. I must say, as someone who doesn’t give out compliments lightly, your version is hands down the BEST. The arrangement is incredibly original-perfect for both listening and dancing. And, of course, Julianne's gentle, baby-like voice turns it into the masterpiece that it is. Everyone's contribution is equally worth mentioning; you all brought something special to the table. Lastly, while your outros are always fascinating, this one was truly the cherry on top. Thank you, The Petersens, for this incredible rendition. Sincerely, Mr. P, your biggest fan from Bulgaria
Sempre molto bravi, ragazzi. Bella canzone. In realtà le parole non le ho capite tanto, ma la musica mi piace molto. E Julianne canta benissimo. Grazie come sempre.
I love it! I've always liked this song -- so deceptively happy-sounding, but the lyrics are so dark and sinister -- and I love your version! Rowdy's crazy. Dumb animal doesn't know how good he has it.
What a fun little song! I've never heard it before. I read the description to find out if it's an original. It's not but it might as well be. Since it's the first version I've heard, this is what my brain will expect it to sound like now and since I'm a huge fan of this band already, I'm biased and believe this is better than the original artist who I've never heard of. Not that Fleet Foxes' version is not good, I'm sure their version is beautiful and fun too. I suppose to be fair I should go check out theirs now. Haha! 🙂💙
Stifling hot at home here in Australia, just please sing and make this wonderful music. You all are tremendous, it’s a treat to be able to hear and a blessing to also see you. Can’t wait to catch up with you all and get in your way. Love from Aus. 🇦🇺
Fabulous, tx. Our choir used to sing this winter hymnal. Very polite suggestion tho' is that it sounds fuller and better with more voices so if playing it live get the two guys to join in.
Rowdy’s entitled to his opinion, but, with respect, I disagree with him. Miss Julianne’s special vocals keep getting better and better, here with lovely, rhythmic accents on the main beats, beautifully sounded vowels on the high notes (‘fall’, ‘go’), and a novel relaxed interpretation of the enigmatic lyric, capped off with a gorgeous final harmony line from all three sisters.
On Twitter, I frequently see music-themed accounts ask, "What singer is so unique that you recognize their voice from the opening two or three notes, regardless of what song it is?" My answer is always, "Julianne Petersen." 🙂
Julianne Petersen, Willie Nelson, and John Anderson
That's a fact. My favorite voice in all of music.
Mama's bass work is simply stellar. She really nails the cadence and keeps everyone on beat. Lovely!
That was beautiful! Julianne's singing was excellent.
Always great to catch a new Peteresens video. Merry Christmas brothers and sisters!

WOW. Pure Beautiful Epic
Love it !!!!!!
Fabulous, tx. Our choir used to sing this winter hymnal. Very polite suggestion tho' is that it sounds fuller and better with more voices so if playing it live get the two guys to join in.
Wow, wow,wow !!! thank you.
Just beautiful.... the harmonies, instruments' improvisations, etc. Sooo "atmospheric"!
What a fun arrangement!
This is just what I needed today. ❤
Great song, performed flawlessly.
This is awesome!
Wow Julianne! This is ridiculously good! [Drop the mic!]
Absolutely beautiful!
Amazing! I Heard this performed by my high school's acapella choir last year, and never thought of how it would sound as a bluegrass arrangement!
Love this family. I wish I could adopt them. They’re happy and smiling all the time.
Soooo good! Thank you!
Very beautiful, thank you.
This gorgeous song was made for you, and you were made for it!
You all make such beautiful music together.
Very soothing song and performance. Way to go.
I love it! Thank you so much!!
We have been waiting on this one!
We love it!
Wunderschön! Ihr seid einfach Hammer, Gott segne euch.
No offense intended to the other band members, but when Julianne's vocal is leading I enjoy their videos the most.Brilliant!
Lindo simplismente ! Que talentos!
Thanks Petersens! ❤
